+Alexander Bethea Ya, he probably overlooked that, as health on kill is uber useful. It's worth mentioning in passing at the very least. The problem though is that it depends so much on RNG that people really shouldn't actively try to find/make gear specifically for that. Unless they're either really lucky or have a ton of time to farm.
+Greyghostvol1 Recalibration station makes that a lot easier. I've rerolled a lot of my gear for either mod slots or health on kill. I've been level 30 since the day after launch so for me it's worth it. I'm min/maxing all my gear now to get everything exactly as I want.
+Jason Boyd I have played solo in Dark Zone from rank 1 to 39. Died few times on some random rogues, I dont mind. While soloing DZ, I use my tank build = 100k dps / 100k HP / 12k support (also i have 64% armor) +1000 ammo on main and secondary weapon. Talent for sidearm "when you kill enemy with sidearm, you will get 30 ammo to your main weapon)
Great tips here. I was having alot of trouble solo grinding with pulse only and never considered the turret because when I first tried it, it got destroyed way too fast. Now that I'm leveled up, I see how the stun turret could work magic in those encounters.
I really like your build here Macro, I just stumbled across your videos because I was trying to play "catch up" a bit to Lvl 30 because I was a few days behind the ones that played at launch. Plus, even though I intend to form a squad for the Dark Zone, I wanted to max out solo, because my schedule is kinda crazy. The only couple of changes I would make, per my personal preference mind you, is the buffed smart cover with damage or heal instead of the buffed first aid. Also, I used to Recalibrater to get rolls for the abilities Turret and Smart Cover abilities to add more umph to my build. Otherwise, I found your vid incredibly helpful, so thanks!
I've been playing solo for the most part due to different schedules of friends and life pretty much. I've been using the smart cover, support station and the tech support talent to make them last until I have to move to the next area. With the smart cover, I've been using the healing buff on it, IF I get downed, I crawl to the support station and get myself up. It's been working out for the most part, I am only level 22 though. Good vids man.
This video was very helpful! I go solo a lot, and even leveled up to 43 by myself in the DZ. With the patches coming thru 2nite, this should give me a better chance in The DZ! Once again, great video!!!
I've finished it on hard solo, and give it 10/10. Solo is the way to appreciate and feel the story of the city. I should try the challenging mode solo now which sounds super hard! Amazingly, most of the things here I did, like doing 40-45% Stamina, 35-40% Firearms, and 15-20% Electronics with focus on skill power perks in the gears. I learned it the hard way after suffering for more than 1 hour in one mission (Hard) because was trying to make it more even than when on the Beta which was more like a health tank! Gun choice is still a preference and I have the best gun for me for each category so when you run out of bullets you still have a lot more. I've tweaked the attributes perks to have around 1016 bullets for assault rifle with only superior items at the moment, it should be even greater with the high-ends!
Thanks for the vid. I switched from sticky bomb to turret after watching and it made a HUGE difference running hard mode solo. Biggest plus is the turret drawing some fire away from me. Thanks again
I'd recommend replacing the Stopping Power talent with One is None. Especially with an SMG/Sniper build, this talent will increase your effective dps drastically, up to 40%.
A tactic I have found very useful for the people that spec into Damage and Stamina is to use crowd control abilities to reduce incoming damage. The two I have on are Seeker mine with Smoke, and the Sticky Flashbang. Both of which pretty much stop incoming damage and allow the player to exit cover and target enemies freely for 5 to ten seconds each, and they both can effect multiple enemies with their debuffs. I rarely have to heal, and when I do, it's against 10+ attackers that have surrounded me. Being smart about when and where to engage targets goes a long way too.
The other option for your last talent would be the one that pulses a target for 10 seconds with a headshot. Using the sniper and an SMG gets you tons of bonus damage for doing what you do anyway, shooting their heads.
I'm still using the same skills i started with at 30......pulse and meds. I usually save it for boss encounters and i believe it stacks with the Pulse on Headshot talent which increases your crit % and crit damage a bit even more.
I have loved seeing your channel grow over the years Marco, keep up the good work. Btw i have only had this channel for a while because i switched email account. so i only subbed about 2-3 months ago
Thanks Marco! I think you said to play on easy when in solo because you barely get any extra for the extreme difficulty ramp up. I learned that the hard way! After 10 tries I gave up and went to easy and one shot everyone and beat the mission first try! And still got the same amount of EXP! So you level up the same in hard or easy, but on hard you just get better loot and money. I will be looking at these skills now because I play 100% solo, Lone Wolf.
+MarcoStyle Thanks for a great video. I have a long way to go at level 12 but this still helps a ton. Mahalo all the way from Hawaii and FWiW I'm a diehard Oranje fan. #HupHollandHup #RVP :) #Aloha
I'm only lvl 13 atm owing to not having much time to play recently, but this is basically already my build. My weapons are switched, so my DMR is my primary, but the DMR/SMG combo is killer. Getting a good SMG is key though, one with a decent effective range, otherwise you're going to get hammered at those mid ranges. I also haven't tried out First Aid yet as I like to have a Pulse handy to scope out areas before I go in and decide my best spot but I'll give it a go next time I get chance. Nice vid Marco, some solid advice 😊
Great video Marco, would love if you could do in-depth videos on each skill with testing since not all the numbers are given in game, like for example one of my favorite skill right now is the First Aid with booster shot but I don't know what the actual numbers are for the damage bonus and damage resistance bonus and how long those buffs last for after using the heal.
+NakedAvanger Go into the inventory and then look at the character tab, you can see your armor there and there is also a description of what armor does.
Tech support + turret = amazing. It's time is extended if you OR the turret itself gets a kill. Just like he said, you can realistically always have it up 100% for the engagement
Hey Marco, I'm running similiar in style build with some differences. For stats I go Stamina > FP > Electronics. Weapons: Very fast hitting Assault Riffle (so same purpose as your SMG) + hard hitting sniper rifle. Skills: Flame turret + improved cover with healing + healing ult Talents (here are the main differences): Less recoil behind cover, more ressistance after using medkit at low health, headshots pulse enemy, headshots have 50% of not consuming a bullet. Let me what do you think :)
Marco, great vid: I will give this a go! I have been quite successful with a different solo set up for hard mode/daily missions: spec for DPS and electronics; ballistic shield with extra dmg & fast reload mod; self heal with damage mod; security link signature skill; talents almost the same except I use the one where you can refill all ammo with skill kills. The shield can take a lot of punishment with high electronics, while you are still very mobile; also it cools down super quick (less than 15 secs for me). Also never downed in the missions I played solo in hard mode (3 missions so far). You do need a good sidearm: was using Damascus.
Damn I feel amazing. i finished the whole game alone and didn't even visit the darkzone until level 26 and it was a bad experience as I had weapons which were good in the story so I messed up bad until I started to try to avoid enemys and engaging in a longer range so yeah everything he said in this video will get you some good gear in the darkzone as you would die less and extract more. in the darkzone I didn't team alot I avoided players until I got good weapons because they are usually in teams and attack alone player with gear.
Every time I extract with sketchy players around, my strategy is to use the med kit at full health to over-heal then I use survivor link and sprint up the the extraction, its nice to be invincible during the 3 - 5 seconds it takes to attach your gear.
Thanks for the vid. I've been doing the smg/marksman as my weapons for a bit, but have been wondering what skills and stats to work on the most as a solo player. Thanks for the insight on those.
I like to have health on kill items and run pulse with turret or rolling grenade thing. If you're low health you can wait for the health in in final bar to refill and get a to get the next bar started. It works pretty well for soloing.
+Soren Nissen Ohh its very possible, specially hardmodes which are hardly worthy of the name can be very very easily soloed. Challenge Modes are near impossible due to how the damage and health scales but I was able to manage the Lincoln Tunnel mission to save Roy Benetiz of Challenge because there are not shotgun guys who oneshot you. even Dark Zone 6 is soloable if you don't want to group up, you just risk being killed by a rogue agent but they aren't that common. Just watch your fire and stay in your lane so you don't shoot another agent and go rogue yourself cause they will most certainly kill you then
i know this is late but for a solo build, i would suggest as weapons, Vektor 45 ACP with an Pakham or an M1A sniper rifle for long range distance, but for quick kill on yellows / purples i would suggest running with a Vektor 45 ACP with, talents: Deadly, Brutal and Responsive. as for the Pakham it has only 1 type of talent set made since it's a named High-End and then can't have random talents. Pakham's Talents: Swift, Destructive and Ferocious Pakham is based for armor desturction on enemies. and have atleast 62k health+ with 3.5k armor and atleast 150k+ DPS for your main dmg weapon. and try to have atleast 12k to 15k skillpower if able for your heal(overdose) and Smart cover(Trapper) for PvE, for PvP: Heal(overdose) Pulse(Tactical scanner) / Sticky Bomb(Flashbang). and have atleast 35% crit chance and 132% Crit damage.
Nice Build i barrely use the sameone, but sometimes i use instead of turrets, the seeker mine with poison against groups. so they stand stil and you can easy headshot them.
Great video as always. I used a very similar build to lvl up my character but I changed the marksman rifle for an assault rifle, I am just terrible at landing head shots
As I usually run with a squad, I love being a medic in games. So I primarily focused on my that. I have a good build, but I love to see what you will come up with. Maybe you should do a build?
Honestly, for solo play, just make sure you have the heal skill. Weapons and anything else DOESNT matter. lets be fair: Hard modes are easy to do. The second you get a wepaon that can down a purple enemy with one clip, youre golden. Since this is a cover shooter, mechanics and position are more important then your build for low difficulty encounters, and hard modes are just that. Run a challenge mode and youll see that the difficulty factor quintuples for challenge modes, whereas it only doubles for hard modes. Fastest hard mode runs ive been able to pull off were with the healing skill, the healing signature (having two instant heals helped me rush through the missions) and a fire turret. Main weapon was LMG (IMO bigger clip = best mod. Combine that with as much crit dam as you can and youll see why I believe LMGs are much better then SMGs).
+Thierry Blondin-Rivest Bring a lmg vs a smg for highest damage output anyday the lmg looses, the lmg is supposed to suppress and draw aggro, think of aggro like in Army of Two the "Tank" or the high health guy needs to draw attention as the damagers, snipers, and or assault rifle guys clean them out.
it's a tough world out there in the dark zone by yourself but I've been managing OK it would be nice to have someone having your back every once in awhile but it will be a great self reward to know I got to level 50 solo
i focused a little more on tech because it makes my heal give me around 3 bars of health or a full over shield/decreases my cool down to about 25sec at the cost of only about 7000 health. Id say tech is often underrated
Turrent is man's new best friend no doubt. Learned that the hard way in beta going into the dark zone & have 5 overleveled thugs shoot at me all at the same time. Seriously even just a graze from em and you was dead. However throwing in your little buddy takes away half the attention at least & leaving you with a bit of breeding room. Sure its isnt mandatory in normal gameplay, but i would dream about going in there without it now. Sure bosses litterally is garanteed to stomp on the turret .. but use this to your advantage & lure the boss further way from you own location buying you more time.
speaking as an 95 % solo player .. outside of great video and works great .- .. i say the best solo build .. is what you enjoy playing with the most .. annoying replay i know .. but yeah .. - more so , with weapons .. - true for most games and not just division-.
One of the things that I found worked really well is to stack up on health I'm lvl 29 with about 100k health and it's almost like I'm a tank and my preference of weapons is usually an assault rifle usually an AK or SCAR-L and a high damage smg like the vector or AUG
aid station with unlimited ammo with the buff that adds up time for every enemy killed makes it very good for soloing ive even used it very well in the DZ
The SMG is good - but I like the range you get from an assault rifle. I really hate engaging enemies at anything more than long range. Easier to switch to pistol and flank an enemy quickly at close range than to reload and close the distance out of cover. Especially if they are suppressed.
thanks, i would watch all your vídeos soon, i just bought the division last week, and i play alone, i still dont understand about the dark zone or survival, or about the weekly weapons and stuffs,
I also recommend getting gear that has heal on kill. I'm at 31% which is almost a full bar each kill. It's great for solo activities.
nice nice I'll have to look for some gear like that
+Alexander Bethea Great tip!
+Alexander Bethea Ya, he probably overlooked that, as health on kill is uber useful. It's worth mentioning in passing at the very least. The problem though is that it depends so much on RNG that people really shouldn't actively try to find/make gear specifically for that.

I'm glad you brought this up, and made a vid about it. Because I am one of those gamers that is a solo player. Thanks man !
can we all stop for one minute to focus on how cool this guys accent is...
wow marco this is definitely the best guide i came across.....kudos man
"Best way to go solo in the DZ?...team up with someone." WTF, Marco. haha
The wording is just awkward, man. It's all I'm saying. Don't worry, I still love you.
+Jason Boyd

+Tirion Gaming (Pohjantikka) same here
Tirion Gaming I just thought Marco's wording was funny.
I have now gone solo more than 50 ranks in DZ
I can't wait untill you start posting more. the division is my new favorite game, and really looking forward to your videos. keep it up man.

I'm just halfway through, but I'm already loving this guide. Thanks @MarcoStyle! :-)
Best Division video for beginners hands down
best video on the topic that ive found

on level twaalf
twaalf?
+i400 it means twelve in Dutch
Ah.
This is what i come to expect for your channel informative and helpful tips not exploits and cheap click bait gimmicks.
I'm still using the same skills i started with at 30......pulse and meds. I usually save it for boss encounters and i believe it stacks with the Pulse on Headshot talent which increases your crit % and crit damage a bit even more.

so i only subbed about 2-3 months ago
This is great for me, my friends stayed home when the game came out and have been twice my level for a while now :)
This video has helped me out so much, I can't thank you enough
I play solo alot and here's something I found really helpful, to have an SMG, a marksman and a sawn off sg
the most useful vid i saw about the division... thanks a lot man

+NakedAvanger Go into the inventory and then look at the character tab, you can see your armor there and there is also a description of what armor does.
+Mads Thodsen did
+NakedAvanger When it's not critical it makes you get lesser damage percentage. Check out your character to know how much under Survivability.
It mitigates damage buddy
Thank you mate! Really needed that one. The AI´s are rushing a lot, and the turret is great for stopping them. Especially for boss fights.
Very thorough and concise great vid subbed
Thank you for the Solo Build I was thinking get The Division tomorrow!
Thank You For Making A Video For People Like Me, Who Don't Have A lot Of People They Could Play With!
i miss this game
Tech support + turret = amazing. It's time is extended if you OR the turret itself gets a kill. Just like he said, you can realistically always have it up 100% for the engagement
2024 video still coming in handy
danjewel voor de video man!! heeft me echt geholpen
You are doing great work...Thank you for working so hard and being so kind and informative at the same time. (Division name: Healey Esq)
Great video man!! I'm definitely going run this build
To add to this, Healing station the left mod one can revive yourself, could come in handy for some people :) certainly haas for me!
Awesome video. I have only one friend who plays it but thanks to the matchmaking in the game I can still have fun.
Hey Marco, I'm running similiar in style build with some differences.
For stats I go Stamina > FP > Electronics.
Weapons: Very fast hitting Assault Riffle (so same purpose as your SMG) + hard hitting sniper rifle.
Skills: Flame turret + improved cover with healing + healing ult
Talents (here are the main differences): Less recoil behind cover, more ressistance after using medkit at low health, headshots pulse enemy, headshots have 50% of not consuming a bullet.

thanks for the vids! very informative and easy to follow :D subbed!
Great video! Helped me out a lot.
thank you very helpful as i had no idea what to pick, any videos on crafting would be good :)
Hi Marco, I have been told that solo play in the Devision is near on impossible but with this information I can now go and buy it. thanks great video.

Thx for the vid Marco :)
great video and build, kinda funny i already had the same build as this before watching the video lol
Helped me a lot!
Thanks!
marco the dutch accent is coming out strong XD
Side arm is good for the talent to gain +30 primary ammo back. This is mainly good for DZ.
+AnimeHDRevolution yea I agree
+MarcoStyle I prefer the pulse when I spec higher into stamina. It helps with the damage gap between specing damage or tank.
It would be nice to explain how you went about how to get the High End items and the best way to get them.
You rock man, thanks!

first aid is essential and building your skill will make you heal more. I go from miniscule health to overheal build you skill.
i focused a little more on tech because it makes my heal give me around 3 bars of health or a full over shield/decreases my cool down to about 25sec at the cost of only about 7000 health. Id say tech is often underrated
I'm lvl 24 almost 30 and lvl 24 DZ. Can't wait to reach the max rank. Some groups go rouge a lot from what I've seen so far on the West Coast.
Awesome Video thank you for all the insight. :)
thank you it helped me so much !!
+CholoHD *wouldnt dream
+CholoHD I hate it when I don't have enough room to breed.
+William Shanley Lol, if only my mind was dirty as my bad typing
It was a great typo!
I'd love to see a DPS build video :D i mean i got a pretty decent set up however if i can make it even better then why not.
I love this guy
thanks Marcos I'll be using this on the one I'm going hybrid with :-D
speaking as an 95 % solo player .. outside of great video and works great .- .. i say the best solo build .. is what you enjoy playing with the most ..
annoying replay i know .. but yeah .. - more so , with weapons .. -
true for most games and not just division-.
One of the things that I found worked really well is to stack up on health I'm lvl 29 with about 100k health and it's almost like I'm a tank and my preference of weapons is usually an assault rifle usually an AK or SCAR-L and a high damage smg like the vector or AUG
Damn nice video and good instruction, sub 1+
i just hit maxlevel and am gs200 now. first time i play division. very helpful altough its 2020
aid station with unlimited ammo with the buff that adds up time for every enemy killed makes it very good for soloing ive even used it very well in the DZ
it also combines well with the turret because if your getting kills fast enoguh they both will stay up so long as you give the drops cover
The SMG is good - but I like the range you get from an assault rifle. I really hate engaging enemies at anything more than long range. Easier to switch to pistol and flank an enemy quickly at close range than to reload and close the distance out of cover. Especially if they are suppressed.
Your good and helpful with the build videos and ways to farm loot and I rally improved from u thnks :)
Great video, thanks!
Just recently, I unlocked an ability that occasionally regenerates ammo in the magazine if I land headshots. 2 1/2 mags worth of bullets later. Ha!
thanks alot i needed this info
thanks, i would watch all your vídeos soon, i just bought the division last week, and i play alone, i still dont understand about the dark zone or survival, or about the weekly weapons and stuffs,
The smart cover support ability is a good alternative to the heal ability.
