This. This. THIS! After the science thing, sinning someone's culture and mythos was next on my list for anger-inducing statements. The only reason it wasn't first was because lots of people really know nothing about Polynesian cultures or myths. I live in Polynesia, so seeing/hearing/experience something from Poly culture is like seeing a cloud. lol But lots of people don't know and think Disney just made stuff up for the film when most of it is drawn from something that's common/known/real/spoken about in Polynesia. So they're laughing and agreeing not realizing they're being offensive.
Even as a person knowing neither jack nor shit about polynesian culture any idiot could tell it's based in mythology. It would be like watching Hercules and sinning the Olympic pantheon for not being "real"
9:45 It’s also worth noting that during this montage of Moana struggling to sail, it’s revealed that she woke up one night and discovered she was going the WRONG WAY!
why does he think the kakamora smelled the heart? they knew it was there because moana literally shouted that it was there, and they should "come and get it"
That AND Moana still had the real Heart on her while tempting Tamatoa with the fake Heart, so even if every monster, creature, whatever COULD smell it, her deception would still work for as long as she held onto the fake one.
Man, I’ve literally prayed for this. i really don't understand Jeremy sometimes. he says one statement, then later contradicts it. it's like Jeremy has like 10 writers all seeing the film separately and writing their own notes on what to say during the sins video and Jeremy just picks timestamp notes he wants without context or research...
The thing I hate most about CimamaSins is how oblivious they are to picking out context clues, which is surprising considering how often "Jeremy points out what's happening on-screen cleshé" happens.
Why does he assume that the kakamora smelled the heart? Didn't Moana literally just shout "Come for this? The heart? YOU MEAN THIS HEART RIGHT HERE!? COME AND GET IT!!!"
I always cringe inside out every time I have to hear Jeremy talk in these vids, and then theres the release of catharsis every time you smack him down. Aaand then I have to hear him talk again. These videos are a never ending roller coaster

Well, dear... 10. The Shape of Water. One of Del Toro's best, despite that 10 second scene of fishman sex that everyone focuses on because they are morons. 9. Avengers. The greatest crossover event in history. Suck on that, Dan Bull's fortnite rap battle royale! 8. Moana. The best Disney Princess. The best casting all round. The best looking film. The best Dwayne Johnson role of that year. And do I need to say it? Screw it, I will. The best damn music Disney has ever seen, Lin Manuel Miranda needs to be knighted. 7. Pacific Rim. More than just an homage to the Kaiju fighting archetype, and a beautiful film all round. Also THEY USE A BOAT AS A SWORD JUST LIKE IN THEIR TEST FIGHT AND HONOURING HER HERITAGE OH MY GOD AAAAHHHH!!! 6. Kingsman: The Secret Service. This is the SAO abridged of parodies. Parodies that, in my opinion, transcend the original source material and become their own, much, much better entity. 5. War for the Planet of the Apes. A better, more gripping war film I have never seen. And it came from fuzzy Gollum. This is the perfect war film. 4. 3 Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri. This film is so good, I never want to see it again. It's heartbreaking, realistic, hilarious, gripping, emotional, well-written, well-acted, absolutely beautiful. This film is nearly perfect. Robbed at the Oscars. 3. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I know the entire script off by heart. My favourite comedy of all time. Coconuts, he's not dead, Get on with it. 2. Forrest Gump. Just a stunning film that always makes me cry about ten times. before we reveal our number 1 pick, remember to subscribe to Watchmojo.com for more awesome content! 1. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. This is a completely perfect film. It has no flaws, no weak moments, no mistakes, no plot holes, no wasted moments. Everything in this film is exactly what a film should be. This film is so perfect that I think it ruined the Last Jedi. This is what people were expecting TLJ to be. And it wasn't. That film was just good. This film is absolutely perfect. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Do people do that often? With the exception of religion (which some people do literally claim as fact), I've never seen that. The people around you must suck if you're experiencing it a lot
"As the ocean gives her a new hairstyle, I'm left to wonder how wrong everything I'm seeing would be if it were another human doing it instead of the ocean." Jeremy has never experienced the touch of a parent, a barber, a friend, or a partner. Sad, but would also explain a lot.
It's December and I'm still laughing that Jeremy believes that the Earth was never 100% covered in water. The Earth today, in the year 2018, is nearly all water, 81% in fact. It was proven centuries ago that the Earth was in fact all water at one point, and if I'm not mistaken, many scientists theorize that it will eventually be that way again since the polar icecaps are melting. Also, the fact that the polar ice caps exist at all is one of the major reasons why the Earth is no longer 100% water. I learned this shit in high school, in the 90's, in Georgia.
even if all the polar ice melts, the sea level will "only" rise about 70 metres. Still a huge amount, would flood every coastal city on the planet, but you'll notice that there are bits of land that are higher up than 70 metres as well.
I love Moana so much. Grew up in NZ surrounded by Māori/Polynesian culture and this film was so amazing as there were so many things, especially legends, that I recognised from school and books and AGH I just love it and it makes me so sad when they sin Polynesian culture just for existing
13:00 Jeremy literally just contradicted himself in the same sentence "all-knowing Ocean", "understand the concept of a high five" I'm pretty sure that A) that would fall under "all-knowing" and B) how do you know the Ocean even is "all knowing"
I just realized that Chief Tui is voiced by the same guy (Temuera Morrison) who played Jango Fett/Clones even though it's super obvious. I'm surprised Jeremy didn't sin that using the "This guy played that guy in different movie" cliche
JagDriver88 And the grandmother is voiced by Rachel House, who played Topaz in Thor Ragnarok, Grandmaster’s right hand woman who is all snarky at Valkyrie and tells him the slaves, er, prisoners with jobs, are loose with weapons.
I'm surprised he didn't sin Lin Manuel Miranda for using the Hamilton OBC to record all the demo songs for this film and then officially making Washington the singing voice for Tui.
Your videos are so good I've honestly started to prefer them over actual cinamasins videos. I've even started to critique his videos myself and it wild what you've open my mind to.
Glad to hear you also find "main character was only hallucinating in a coma" theories to be, in your words, "BAD". It's like, can we not just enjoy a work of fiction for being fictional?
I should mention for that "only ocean" part... Christianity actually agrees here. Dry land gets formed _after_ the waters above are separated from the waters below.
Jeremy: Sins movies for giving pretty much any exposition, especially narration Also Jeremy: Sins movies for things that are obvious, but weren't explicitly spelled out for him
3:26 he sinned them... for having a father character that is protective of his child who wants to go to a dangerous ocean alone as a toddler. even counting when she's older, parents are often protective of their CHILDREN especially in places so dangerous
12:06 It’s kinda the whole point of the song to distract Moana precisely so Maui can steal her boat. He even spells it out in the final verse, not that Jeremy understands things even when they’re spelled out to him.
Its like Jeremy is just making videos for the fuck of it. The guy clearly has no idea what he wants in a film and I love the way you call out all of his bs. Keep up the good work man.
You know, I'd love to see someone edit a movie to meet all of Jeremy's suggested changes, send it back to him, then see if it actually is better. Because I really don't think it would be, with people explaining things that could be shown, repeating things Jeremy forgot, and characters dying from the first time they get hit with something that looks like it would hurt. Oh, and every movie would have a lap dance and boner jokes and pop culture references

12:30 extra sin, This isn’t a side quest, it’s an obstacle. They don’t go out of the their way to find these people for plot reasons. They are sailing in the fog and the pirates raid them randomly.
I think the thing that really bothers me at the point of 12:03 is that it’s kind of the whole point. Maui is this very charismatic character at this point and the second the song ends moana realizes he’s tricked into a cave and is very clearly no longer happy
So here’s another answer for cinema sins about the part where Maui tries to sign the oar. It’s very possible that he had other visitors that purposely sought him out for his status as a legendary figure. However, most sailors don’t go sailing by themselves, which would be a problem for Maui. Maui is very much a solo act, all the glory to himself kind of person at this point and established of questionable morality. As he literally stole the heart of a goddess to do something with it to make himself more famous. So he would forgo any method of traveling with anyone else to avoid anyone else getting the glory. He can’t steal a ship from a group of people in the case that they managed to get off the island, and tell people that he’s not what legends tell of him. Moana is the first one to come alone. Which gives him the one opportunity to steal a boat. Which he takes by immediately distracting Moana, sealing her in a cave that a less resourceful person wouldn’t have been able to escape from as quickly, if at all. Which he believed would have solved the problem of him not having a boat, and the potential that negative word of him could spread, as far as he knows she’s trapped in there whit no way out. However, Moana does escape the cave and catch up with Maui allowing the rest of the movie to happen.
I love the clip of the man _conquering_ a coconut and then offering half of it to the viewer while sipping from the other half. Is that the equivalent of a mixologist whipping up an epic cocktail and then pouring it in two glasses to share?

Maoi is basically Polynesian Loki. The Trixter-nature, the shapeshifting, the incredibly likable and charismatic actors portraying these characters. Every comes together.
13:13 Disregarding the fact that the giant crab speaks with a heavy accent, “perfect American English” is an oxymoron, dude. Not even Americans can agree on the English language.
That is a fair point, though oxymoron may be going a bit too far. Then again, literally every English speaking country fails to be able to decide what "perfect English" is, let alone all the countries as a whole.
I think he just meant that it sounded natural with an American accent. As in, it sounded like native American speech. Not that American English is perfect.
with the way youtube is handling "duplication" use of someone else video, audio, or anything almost will get pinged for copyright/duplication. kinda makes videos and almost any other discussion video not able to be monetized.... good luck to you and the rest of the world as its in essence a silencing of many voices
I used to think these videos that @Th3Birdman did were dumb, until I actually watched CinemaSins with a more open mindset and realized that this channel is 100% more funny and really does poke fun at how CinemaSins needs to be spoon fed during a movie! I love this channel!
I love how he not only doesn't give a shit about this movie being in an entirely different culture, but doesn't understand that everything the audience sees isn't what the characters see. Like, Moana must be on some hard shit to actually be seeing her ancestors in the middle of the ocean alive and well. Couldn't be that she's just looking at the tapestries and we're just seeing what she's imagining.
"Jeremy is every girlfriend when you ask them what they want to eat", yes, this! Though, as a girl and girlfriend, it's usually my male roommate who does this to me as I ask him what he's considering for food and his response is "food"... infuriating, you tell 'em Birdman! Also, I just wanna say, I really appreciate your videos. I liked Cinema sins when I found them for the first time, but after about 5 videos it got stale because he sinned shit that wasn't sinworthy. I can understand sinning the actual issues with movies or legitimate cliches that are needlessly there, but sinning their bogus sins? Yep, I'll go for that.
Regarding the sin about the giant crab not realizing Moana was holding a fake: it's possible that he and the coconut people can just sense it's general location and know what it looks like but not know it's exact location. Therefore, if it looks like what they're looking for and it's in the same general area, they could potentially be fooled by a convincing copy.
Can you do a vid on Kong: Skull Island considering the backlash CinemaSins got from the director? Just think it would be fun. Can you do Godzilla 2014 as well? I know its not perfect but alot of the sins are bs.
CinemaSins: sinning movies for arbitrary reasons no average movie goer is even thinking about while watching the movie. (aka nitpicking small problems that don’t really affect the movie at all.)

Jeremy complains that these Ancient Polynesians know what a hi-five is, but by the same token, he expects them to know what a horse (with that sin about banging the drum which is shaped like an upside down horse saddle thing). @@HunhowsShadowStalker a tad late to comment but there are many spellings of the demi god maori from many polynesian places never be the solid block in a rolling ocean brethren
@@eurasiatheiv8955 Yes, but since the comment specifically mentions a scene from the movie, it's spelled Maoi as that's how the character's name is spelled in the movie.
I know I'm like two and a half years late but I noticed something; when you said Maui could have easily found Tefiti because she was the only island, isn't that not true? Maui was born on (and quickly thrown off of) a separate island years before he went searching, plus there's the fact he'd been pulling islands up before he went for the heart.
It should also be pointed out that in the coconut people scene, moana had waved and jumped up and down, holding the heart of te fiti up in the air, while screaming "come and get it!" so those people didn't even really have to try hard to know that moana had the heart.
The reason that Moana almost died on the ocean the first time she tried to leave the island was not to show the audience that her father was right. The ocean is her friend the entire movie and is trying to help her get the Heart back to Te Fiti. She couldn't leave the island the first time because she didn't have the Heart yet. That scene really bothered me because it was so out of character for the ocean, until I figured that out.
13:51 the cocamora knew she had the heart because SHE LITERARY YELLS OUT LOUD THAT SHE HAS THE HEART! so that means, and hear me out on this one.........THAY HERD HER!!!! smh 😔
Would also like to point out, even if Tamatoa was able to sense the heart, he would have no reason to not initially believe that the barnacle was the heart, since Moana is wearing it, so the sense would still be pointing him toward her. At that point, he would probably stop trying to sense it, since he would think he knew exactly where it was
I feel like this is one of those videos where Jeremy has to play up how his channel is “satire” because this is one of those consensus good films and he can’t nitpick it
2:20 I do think they were already land existing cause 1) The big guy (forgot his name sorry) have a boat made from wood and 2) In the origin story of the big guy we see he was originaly an human who was abandoned by his family, we clearly could see land in that segment. They were certainly less than in the present day where the movie take place but still.
5:10: he’s also completely wrong on this one. Moana is prepared for and accepts that she will be chief one day - it’s because she wants to be a good leader for her people and help them that she discovers their history and goes to find the heart.
0:24 - So, quick question: What about this movie, in any way, shape or form whatsoever, screams James Cameron's Avatar? Or, is this a licensing issue? 4:08 - Mowgli-shadowing! *DING.*

why does he think the kakamora smelled the heart? they knew it was there because moana literally shouted that it was there, and they should "come and get it"
Since when did Jeremy let context get in the way of a sin? He already manipulates scenes by cutting the, off just before they invalidate a sin.
That AND Moana still had the real Heart on her while tempting Tamatoa with the fake Heart, so even if every monster, creature, whatever COULD smell it, her deception would still work for as long as she held onto the fake one.
Man, I’ve literally prayed for this. Moana is my second favorite Disney movie of all time, and there is so much wrong with that sins video that I wanted to throw my iPad across the room. 90% of it was directly related to him using science in a supernatural animated film. Let me donate to your cause right quick!
The other half was him sinning a culture for the things that they use as am oceanic culture. Like splitting the coconuts or the drum.
Yes, I totally agree. I ranted about that to another subscriber on here. lol
What's your first?

I'm usually on board with CinemaSins videos, but this took it too far, blatantly disrespecting Polynesian people and their culture. I'm pretty sure no one who's worked on this has ever met someone of Polynesian descent, and it shows. Thank you for being an outlet for my frustration about the video!
i really don't understand Jeremy sometimes. he says one statement, then later contradicts it. it's like Jeremy has like 10 writers all seeing the film separately and writing their own notes on what to say during the sins video and Jeremy just picks timestamp notes he wants without context or research...
That's pretty much exactly what they do, from what I hear
Except its 5 writers, all of them equally incompetent
@@DemBigOlEyes Wowza
The thing I hate most about CimamaSins is how oblivious they are to picking out context clues, which is surprising considering how often "Jeremy points out what's happening on-screen cleshé" happens.
Cliché* (no hate)
Why does he assume that the kakamora smelled the heart? Didn't Moana literally just shout "Come for this? The heart? YOU MEAN THIS HEART RIGHT HERE!? COME AND GET IT!!!"
I always cringe inside out every time I have to hear Jeremy talk in these vids, and then theres the release of catharsis every time you smack him down. Aaand then I have to hear him talk again. These videos are a never ending roller coaster
Tfw Jeremy misunderstands the entire movie. This is actually my 8th favourite movie, and I love it so much I want Auli’i Cravahlo to be my cousin who takes me to a karaoke bar and just chills, listening to other people sing like ‘hey, they were pretty good!’
I want to know what the rest of your "favourite movies" ranking is, please
Kinnundo that’s a pretty good list
@Shooketh It's an honourable mention, but even I'm not so shallow to pad the runtime like that.
@@bigdaddy7956 Why thank you! What's yours, if I may?
i hate when people try to use science to "disprove" myths from cultures they arent apart of. theyre MYTHS for a REASON
Do people do that often? With the exception of religion (which some people do literally claim as fact), I've never seen that. The people around you must suck if you're experiencing it a lot
"As the ocean gives her a new hairstyle, I'm left to wonder how wrong everything I'm seeing would be if it were another human doing it instead of the ocean."
Jeremy has never experienced the touch of a parent, a barber, a friend, or a partner.
I learned this shit in high school, in the 90's, in Georgia.
hell, you learn that if you watch bill wurtz's "history of the entire world i guess" video
even if all the polar ice melts, the sea level will "only" rise about 70 metres. Still a huge amount, would flood every coastal city on the planet, but you'll notice that there are bits of land that are higher up than 70 metres as well.
I think that volcanoes were the ones responsible for the formation of land.

I love Moana so much. Grew up in NZ surrounded by Māori/Polynesian culture and this film was so amazing as there were so many things, especially legends, that I recognised from school and books and AGH I just love it and it makes me so sad when they sin Polynesian culture just for existing
me too, cinemasins moana video outright pisses me off for that. my school had books about maori myth and the movie holds up very well
Just wish the rock learned a maori accent so we didnt get american
As a massive history and mythology fan, you're awesome. As a normal human being that understands cinema... thank you. lol
Cinema sins pisses me off.
13:00 Jeremy literally just contradicted himself in the same sentence "all-knowing Ocean", "understand the concept of a high five" I'm pretty sure that A) that would fall under "all-knowing" and B) how do you know the Ocean even is "all knowing"
That drum bit always pissed me off. Like what was he expecting, a marching drum? Also anyone with eyes can decipher that that’s a drum
Cinema sins was legit at one point....I think.
This is legit one of the best Disney movies ever, thank you for doing this video birdman
"Actor has multiple gigs" cliche

Cinema "Come on guys we knew there's gravity in space" Sins.
I should mention for that "only ocean" part... Christianity actually agrees here. Dry land gets formed _after_ the waters above are separated from the waters below.
I can back this up since according to the Bible, God made the seas first and the land later on with man and animals.
yeah ok but the Bible isn't a science book 😛 but actual scientists agree
Exactly!
Jeremy: Sins movies for giving pretty much any exposition, especially narration
Also Jeremy: Sins movies for things that are obvious, but weren't explicitly spelled out for him
3:26 he sinned them... for having a father character that is protective of his child who wants to go to a dangerous ocean alone as a toddler.
even counting when she's older, parents are often protective of their CHILDREN especially in places so dangerous
12:06 It’s kinda the whole point of the song to distract Moana precisely so Maui can steal her boat. He even spells it out in the final verse, not that Jeremy understands things even when they’re spelled out to him.
"By a show of hands, who thought that was a sin?"
Me: *awkwardly raises hand*
"Put your f*cking hand down"
Me: *awkwardly lowers hand*
Same lmao
12:03 "This song cheered her up? Is she even listening to the lyrics?" Jeremy clearly hasn't heard Hey Ya
Oh, and every movie would have a lap dance and boner jokes and pop culture references
and a sexy woman wearing a "Jeremy is my boyfriend in this scene" T-shirt.
I unsubscribe to CinemaSin after your Deadpool 2 Video because I realized I shouldn't watch their videos anymore. The channel itself was becoming lazy and keep on using the SAME sin over & over again which got to the point of being completely stupid. At least you try to be fresh in your videos and you are actually entertaining unlike Jeremy.

Alex Omega Ok Ok.Point taken. Chill.
4:50 "Jeremy is every girlfriend when you ask them what they want to eat"
That's where you earned my like, sir.
Sure, I'll rewatch this man being awesome again ...
Viewing the re-upload and I still find Jeremy's complaint about narration annoying

Disregarding the fact that the giant crab speaks with a heavy accent, “perfect American English” is an oxymoron, dude.

Bonus sin for Jeremy saying " how does the all knowing ocean know about high fives?"
"Jeremy is every girlfriend when you ask them what they want to eat"
This comment made my day. Truer words have never been spoken.
I used to think these videos that @Th3Birdman did were dumb, until I actually watched CinemaSins with a more open mindset and realized that this channel is 100% more funny and really does poke fun at how CinemaSins needs to be spoon fed during a movie! I love this channel!
Jeremy stop bringing science into this! It’s mythology not evolution 🤦♂️ also it’s animation!

Finally, a sin removal that I wholeheartedly agree with.
“Disney Movie, Sorry Pervs” 😂😂😂
“Jeremy has never heard of pig beach”
Me with pure joy: “pig what?!?!”
I just wanna say I am now a huge fan of Polynesian people now. Did you see that coconut?!😍

CinemaSins: sinning movies for arbitrary reasons no average movie goer is even thinking about while watching the movie. (aka nitpicking small problems that don’t really affect the movie at all.)
Ngl, I got into cinemasins because I pay hyperattention to details, and I just liked seeing that I wasn't the only one who noticed them.

The scene where Moana helps the turtle and meets the ocean almost gives my mom a heart attack every time she watches it.
You missed a sin here. Jeremy complains that these Ancient Polynesians know what a hi-five is, but by the same token, he expects them to know what a horse (with that sin about banging the drum which is shaped like an upside down horse saddle thing). I mean, if they're not supposed to know what a hi-five is, how in the fudge are they supposed to know what a horse is? Also, please do EWW Cinemasins Simpsons Movie
Hey bird man can I request a cliche?
Sinning the established rules cliche
It’s for when he sins things that have been established in the movie even if they don’t make sense in our rules for example the mawii shouldn’t be able to switch the heart to his hand from his talon sin
"mawii"? I think you meant Maoi.
13:51 the cocamora knew she had the heart because SHE LITERARY YELLS OUT LOUD THAT SHE HAS THE HEART!
so that means, and hear me out on this one.........THAY HERD HER!!!! smh 😔
4:26 it would be wrong for a trusted adult in this tight knit village to do a child’s hair? Jeremy really likes to see predators in everything, huh?

5:03
Put your fucking hand down
“And since no one is raising their hand”

Would also like to point out, even if Tamatoa was able to sense the heart, he would have no reason to not initially believe that the barnacle was the heart, since Moana is wearing it, so the sense would still be pointing him toward her. At that point, he would probably stop trying to sense it, since he would think he knew exactly where it was
One of my favorite videos that you've done by far
I feel like this is one of those videos where Jeremy has to play up how his channel is “satire” because this is one of those consensus good films and he can’t nitpick it

That scene when you showed the Polynesian man ripping open a coconut with so satisfying
2:20 I do think they were already land existing cause 1) The big guy (forgot his name sorry) have a boat made from wood and 2) In the origin story of the big guy we see he was originaly an human who was abandoned by his family, we clearly could see land in that segment. They were certainly less than in the present day where the movie take place but still.
jeremy: this movie is giving the middle finger to science!!1!1
also jeremy: there was no time where the earth was completely covered in ocean
5:10: he’s also completely wrong on this one. Moana is prepared for and accepts that she will be chief one day - it’s because she wants to be a good leader for her people and help them that she discovers their history and goes to find the heart.
