Thank you, I own a DR650 and did not know the n.4 and 5, maybe will be useful if something happens to the decompressor, i.e. with a broken decompressor wire.
Sei l’unico che riesce a spiegare in modo perfetto come funziona l’accensione a pedale! Sei grande!!! Sarebbe interessante se facessi un video sull’accensione di una moto ingolfata 😊
Thank you very much,my DR 500 have startet with 2 "Kicks" afther 20 Years standing with new sprit and capuretor cleaning. SORRY for my english,Greetings from Germany
Ceste Magnifique! A very good and very well explained video. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial, I am going to try each of the methods to see which works best with mine. Merci! Greg, UK 🇬🇧 😁
Wow i wish this guy hade many more videos i really like the indepth explanation this should be posted on every motocycl3 forum, videos like this for some of the questions with a link to this video would be amazing and would quicly get alot of suscribers and followers
Thank's a lot !! I'm a DR 600 owner too and use the 2 methods with and without decompressor ! Real bikes for real bikers are kick starting without the magical button !!😂😂😂 Just an advice ....kicking with flip flops is not without danger ...your video is like a scary movie for me , when I see your feet so close to the kick end and the pegfoot's teeth!!😱😱😱 Friendly Richard from France 👍😎🇫🇷🏁
Thank you for the explanation! The illustration was really cool. Thinking of getting a DR600 but I'm reluctant because of the lack of electric start. This vid helps a lot. What about kick-backs? What causes it and have you experienced it with the DR600? This is the biggest cause of my reluctance.
NEVER kick with open throttle. other than that, if you keep your DR in use, it should start quiet ok. if you only kick from the top dead center of the cylinder you are fine, no magic involved :)
Is there any way that manual decompressor is installed wrong? I bought dr600 in pretty bad condition guy who sold it to me told me that it had aftermarket CDI and that it can't be kick started because of it We pushed the bike and started it, it ran ok up until 2000rpm couldn't go above that After some time I bought original CDI, installed it, and bike runs great, goes above 2000rpm, but still can't kick start it... I remember the guy told me that he installed decompressor lever but didn't try it because of bad CDI Every time decompressor lever pops up, I can't push kick starter down, I even stand on it, and it doesn't go down... like it didn't go above top dead center
try to act directly on the little shaft of the decompressor on the cilinder head and see if you can pass trough tdc, as i'm doing at 7:53 , try both of left and right side
@@petertoridechannel9361 I want to apologise for being an idiot, and thank you for your answer! I tried again, and got it to start! Anyway... great videos, keep uploading!
@@petertoridechannel9361 I rebuilt a 1990 dr650 kick start only model. after I got the valves adjusted properly, the kick start was 100% easier to start. I know what you saying about it NOT kicking at a point. I usually hold down the decompression lever while kicking it 5 kicks, then I release holding down the decomp lever, when the kick lever is at the top of the kick. Now, not holding down the decomp lever (it stays in down position) When the kick lever is at the very top, while I slowly push kick lever down, as soon as the decomp lever pops up. STOP THE KICK LEVER THERE, Allow kick lever to return to the top. THIS IS THE Start kick. My Bike does not do the double click thing the guy in the video's bike does. While trying to find the TDC point the decomp lever pops up and the Piston is on the exhaust stroke, this is the point where the kick lever will not move (you trouble above) if while trying to find TDC stroke, Decomp lever does not stay down on its own after you pull on it while kicking slowly (pull decomp lever until it DOES STAY DOWN, Immediately stop kick and allow kick to return to top of stroke), I kick slowly until the decomp lever pops up. STOP THE KICK LEVER THERE. Then allow kick lever to return to the VERY TOP kick position. (this is the starting stroke) This kick will start the bike every time. I hope this helps, Like I 1st mentioned. After I properly adjusted the valve clearances the Kick starter moved 100% freely and I didn't have to break a sweat starting bike.
its not after tdc . its close to tdc . you have a intake cycle ,, pistons goes down and up to compession and you kickstarter run out off stroke .. befor tdc its start on 1/4 -1/2 kick strokd
That's the stupidest thing I've seen in my 50 years as a biker... riding a 600 with sandals, the compression returns and your foot shatters into a thousand pieces (don't try it at home).
Don’t be gay, and I guess your American because you guys always have to say how many years you’ve being doing something, which we all know is BS, So you’ve been riding for 50 years solid no sleep or breaks 👍🏼🏳️🌈🦄
Thank you for the diagram of how it works. You are very good at explaining things! Very clear, merci! 🇺🇸🙏

you bike starts att 1/4-1/2 stroke on kick starter from top pos. i can hear the bang sound and the suging sound tell me intake stroke 5:40
I have a 1985 dr600s. 'I hink the cable on the side of the exhaust pipe side is non existent/broken. So what would be the best way to start my bike?
Nice bike . Love the action kickstarting the bike . Even better if it was in barefoot
thanks Jason

I have DR 600, and it only kicks me back if I add throttle while starting. For my DR - never start with added throttle, it hurts
NEVER kick with open throttle.

Why does sometimes the kicker kicks back?
Here's an example:
