- HeyyyYYyYyy, today we're talking about music industry powerhouse, owns every movie you've ever loved, owned every artist, park, and franchise you love, and might own your house one day- Disney. The Walt Disney Company, Hollywood Records, or whatever organizations exist within the Disney franchise, is not unfamiliar to the general public as they formulate and fabricate the "next big thing" like Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Hilary Duff, and arguably Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
Some stars couldn't break it into the mainstream music scene from Disney however, and we're going to look into why that happened. We're going to look at Hilary Duff from Lizzie McGuire, Demi Lovato, Olivia Rodrigo's origins, Selena Gomez, The Cheetah Girls, Britney Spears, Vanessa Hudgens, Mitchel Musso, Ashley Tisdale, and compare and contrast why their music careers did or didn't flop in the music industry after their Disney Channel success.
Also featured is Zendaya, Bridgit Mendler, and Bella Thorne, though they broke more into the acting scene and Bridgit Mendler remains a smaller (in comparison) music artist.

There are so many layers and nuances to each "flop's" situation, some had scandals and got dropped, some wanted to pursue acting more, had personal situations to deal with, etc. I just couldn't go into EVERYTHING in this video, so it remained more of a surface level analysis. Zendaya has also said that after she left she noticed a lack of black people however KC undercover was very focused on POC which was great at the time (still is but back then they had even less representation so it was really lovely to see a show with POC)
they were all on parole at the time, so it was hard for them to get to the set...
To be fair some of these artists who didn't make it in the music industry and certainly didn't want to do it permanently, like Vanessa, she said in interviews she preferred acting and theatre, and she's smashing theatre, its just a shame theatre doesnt gave the same clout as trashy blockbuster movies which Zac chose to go in to. She's just as successful, just in the area she wants to be successful in.

I agree with the others. Just keep creating and producing. But be consistent. Treat it like a job. You have everything it takes to blow up. Exceptionally talented. A wonderful presenter. Fun, intelligent, wholesome videos that showcase your musical strengths and talent. Time and consistency and you’ll get there. (I wish I could say the same for everybody, but unfortunately, it’s not so. You have to have the it-factor… Which you have.)

I also think that this might influence some of their shows being musicals - which isn't bad - but making Bizaardvark and things have songs, or even just having cast members sing the theme song like in Girl Meets World, allows them to audition specifically singers.

very true, patrick cc did a great video on the disney music machine and he went more into depth about olivia’s situation which i loved! i think she had negotiated with disney to sign under interscope instead of hollywood records so she could remain an integral part of the creative direction (i think)

Aly & AJ have been back in the game since 2018 (5 years ago). AJ never stopped acting & writing music, and has been on The Goldbergs since Season 1. Aly has been writing songs with AJ as 78violet since 2010 then took a small break to act and was the Co-Lead in IZombie from beginning to the end of the series on the CW from 2015-19.

hollywood records had a pop group in the early 90s formed out of 5 members of the mickey mouse club so i’d argue they had that formula down since then it just wasn’t working as successfully as they wanted so after the success of britney and xtina and nsync they decided to give it a go again and hilary was just perfect, she was like a more child friendly version of britney and even mentions britney a few times on lizzir mcguire and after the success of hilary they went full swing. they created the formula a long time ago it just needed time to come to fruition and early to mid 2000s was the best timing. and i’d say every music career since then was lackluster until olivia rodrigo but olivia’s music is also not produced by hollywood records..

This kind of goes in hand with the whole pouring into one artist's idea. I feel like Disney also knows who could be a star even when they first cast the people, so from the moment they audition, they know which ones they are going to push to the top in the music world. Like, they knew Demi Lovato had a sort of star power from the get-go that Ashley Tisdale didn't (and still doesn't) have. And other than Zendaya, none of Disney's black girls have gotten much success after Disney. Raven had momentum for a while and then lost it. Skai Jackson, Trinitee Stokes, Navia Robinson, China Anne and Lauryn McClain, Chandler Kinney and Jadah Marie have all kind of faded away after their Disney Days (which is interesting considering that they're all darker skinned than Zendaya), which further proves Zendaya's point of colorism in Hollywood.
