    When constructive criticism is misread as insults, there’s no room for growth. That’s the issue with Swift, Drake, and a half dozen acclaimed artists who aren’t challenged (or challenging themselves) at all.

      @uraharasenpai8852 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +428

      Fr, and that’s sucks cuz constructive criticism can help you grow as an artist like Dua Lipa

      @elizabethlevesque6978 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +441

      Look what happened to Dua. She was mocked and critiqued for her horrible dancing and lack of stage presence. She went, trained, and now she’s becoming a pop icon (imo). Like I actually respect her a lot as an artist. She saw that she had a lot to improve and she said “I’ll prove them all that I can do it” and she did. Do I think some ppl were unnecessarily mean? Yeah, but at the same time constantly bringing up that her skills were less than lacking, she and her label realized she needed to do something about it. So they did. Kudos to her for taking it all in stride. Now she’s taken the memes and made them iconic and worked them back into her favor.

    When the Beatles got to a point where everything they did was praised and too big to fail, they started taking more risks and doing things that nobody would think to do and now the music from that point in their careers is remembered as their best. I feel like British, Danish and Canadian Singers are way, way better than Taylor and they should have as much spotlight as her. Yes, some of them are no longer working but it would be awesome to hear their music on the radio and at least mentioned twice. ✌️🎹🎹🎹

      I am not a swifitie but I do think she does do some interesting stuff with her music. Its harder now because of the sheer amount of people making music, to be experimental in the same way the beetles were. I think the slight subtlties in how shes experimenting is notable when really listening. I do agree with you, I think the music shes putting out now (not the re-records) will not be as remembered because they sound so similar.

    • @hameley12
      @hameley12 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @strawberrycreme7181 Much like freelancing, fashion, music, etc There's a high saturation of repetitive everything, really. Everyone is copying each other, with a few exceptions in creative arts and/or groups. I won't lie here, I hate lying. Some of Taylor's music does have that Boost of identity and a message. It's different from most songs. But once she began making, creating more music over a short time. It is not boosting anything, it's flavourless, saturated salt & sparkles. And that's all. The flavourless songs will be forgotten and replaced over the years by new music, and even by the top 3 albums she created prior to 2024 (2038). Lol! She will be tired of writing music on heartbreak and will, in time, will write music for her children, her parents, her spouse, whoever he may be. That's just my teatime thoughts 😄 🍵

And I think those wants are okay, but she’s churning out work like clockwork so I’m not surprised. I’m not a fan of hers but I respect her business decisions for the most part but this is just ????
    Part of making great art is that it imitates life which means you have to live it. Obviously the average Joe who does art as a hobby cannot afford to stop working. But artists especially as big as her, can. She’s been in our faces nonstop since 2020/2021? When she released folklore. She in the last 3-4 years has released 4 original albums, I think like 5 re-recordings, had one of if not the biggest world tour, and one of her highest profile relationships which is very public and is profiting off of it. She is way too overexposed. She hasn’t “clocked out “ of work for four years. She needs to sit back and live life so she can create new ideas that are interesting and show growth. As far as I can see he was busy working on movie & TV projects doing interviews promos for them & having a lot of fun.. His co-stars, male & female have nothing but good things to say about him, praising his sense of humour and kindness.. I think he was over trying to make a relationship with a jealous narcissist work once it became apparent she was lusting after an old flame, I guess he got a bit sad about it all, which isn't the same as clinically depressed, which is the swifties take..

It’s true that when you grow older, life becomes more complex, grey. You lose thag youthful fervour and that’s obviously reflected in her songs. I don’t get how you listened to her album and got a “childish” vibe. There were songs that took on a girlish character but the topics were very adult - desiring another when depressed in a relationship, the psychology of fame, giving up on someone a relationship after you give it everything you had, naively thinking you can change a man.

    (Saying this as a long-time massive fan)
    I feel like this album feels different because for the first time, her writing is aware of her god-like status. It feels incredibly parasocial, self-conscious, and yet cocky somehow.
    You said that it feels like she's trying to prove something, but to me it almost feels like she thought her pen was inevitably made of gold? I can only attribute the cringier lines to that kind of blindness, and I'm not saying this in a hateful way. I don't think the writing's bad; I think it's inconsistent and there's a reason why. You need to have a strong (and kind of misguided) sense of self-importance to think that lyrics such as “Tattooed Golden Retriever” are worth even jotting down.
    It's just interesting as a psychological phenomenon because she's always written from the perspective of trying to prove her writing to the critics, but now she clearly knows that the industry is wrapped around her finger. I understand that her writing style will continue to change for as long as she lives, I just need her new influences to settle and mix to match with her style.

    I grew up with Taylor's music and was a fan since 2008. But she's 34 now and still writes songs the exact same way as she did when she was 17. Compare her to other artists like Adele, who is literally just a year older than her but writes songs that are mature and appropriate for an adult in her 30s. At this rate, I can totally see Taylor writing the same kind of songs from her dairy at 50. It's kind of cringe.

      I think she's cultivated a narrative that it's sexist to critique her, that she's some underdog fighting the man who is victimized in every situation. While I'll admit she's targeted for sexism and has been in the past (including internalized misogyny), a lot of the recent criticisms are valid. She's a woman, yes, but aside from that she's an enormously privileged person who was literally born the daughter of two billionaires. And she hasn't been wielding her privilege well or been really honest about it.
      She also has fans who leap to defend her at every chance.

I just hate this whole narrative that any criticism is seen as a personal slight against her and misogynistic. Then that makes people angry and then they come out with actual hatred and stuff that makes their legitimate criticism look like petty hate, and people focus on that rather than the actual proper criticism. Taylor Swift is one of those musicians that are more popular as a public figure and person than for people liking her music. As most mainstream artists are these days. (Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, etc…) Out of those I mentioned I will admit Taylor at least has some good albums. The only one I would consider a masterpiece is Folklore, with Red and Evermore coming close. The rest have some gems but are a bit messy to be perfect.

    The conflict between production, melody, and wordiness is really interesting to me because it reminds me of Bob Dylan, who's her polar opposite in terms of culture and counterculture. Taylor's writing is beginning to be mythicized just the same, tho.
    You don't necessarily hear people critiquing the lack of musicality in Dylan's later records-they just say it's not for everyone and that it's the lyrics that matter. For Taylor, though, I wonder how she'll reconcile that with her mainstream-pop-artist status.
    I feel like her writing will eventually be studied widely in academia (in fact we've seen that happen in recent years) just like Dylan's, and as such, she will be judged in harsher, more rigorous ways. As in, nobody denies Dylan's writing skills, but critics, scholars, and fans do agree that there are bad Dylan albums. I believe that's what's in store for Taylor; eventually her pop-titan status will be traded for a quieter, more objective devotion from a more niche audience. Just like purists and Dylanists, only old Swifties and new Swiftists will stay. It really is fascinating to witness her transition from a celebrity to a myth real-time.

    As a Swiftie, I'll say that this album was a huge disappointment. I mean, it's not bad but she tried to sell it as her best work ever, the title is way too much for what the lyrics are saying, and no, I don't think they "don't make any sense", cause they do, and they are universal as usual, making it easily relatable to a lot of people, but even with that, the poetry is not that great in here, I think Midnights had better lyrics, Maroon, The Great War and Snow On The Beach easily beat mostbof the lyrics in Poets. About the production, this was the first time an album from her made me go "again?", it's like Midnights but soulless, with only a few exceptions like The Alchemy, Florida!!!, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived or Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me. I think that the second part of the album is more poetic, but evermore and folklore would win a fight against it. I've been trying to like it more, but I don't think I'll love it that much in the future.

    Despite being 30+ songs...I didn't enjoy enough of this double album to justify the 2 hrs spent listening to it.
    I mean could this be Swift fatigue in the same vain as superhero fatigue from Marvel? Could be, but I don't think that's it.
    There's been a massive over saturation of Swift over the past couple of years. For good reason I suppose and this isn't me hating on her success. It just seems that a lot of music is coming out from her and quickly. Of course, most of her releases are re-recordings of her original albums.
    So, when she finally puts out some new work you'd think it would be great! Midnights and Lover were shorter albums, but there were more songs from them that I loved compared to The Tortured Poets Department.

    My sister became a fan of Taylor Swift when Love Story came out, and when You Belong With Me came out, I decided to listen to Fearless and found that it was a solid album, as were Speak Now, Red, and 1989 when they came out. Reputation left a bad taste in both my and my sister’s mouths, Taylor had clearly become a sour person and let the album be a bunch of sour grapes, a friend of mine who worked at Walmart at the time told me that the album was having trouble selling at his store, that they were overstocked. Lover didn’t hit the same after Reputation had left such a stain. Listening to evermore and folklore felt like a Renaissance for her, but Midnights and this current album just feel disillusioned. Hopefully, newer artists like Olivia Rodrigo can learn from Taylor’s mistakes.

    I listened tree albums from The National (as their names have crossed paths in past years). It sounded the same to me, repetitive and monotonous. I didn't understand it and didn't dive deep in.
    But their fans like it. And it's fine if Taylor wants to stay in certain type of sound. The thing is that, unlike The National, Taylor it's promoting the albums like a big next thing, like a big disrupt from past works, like a new experience. When it's not.
    And their fans complain about Taylor pointed out "female singers are always forced to change to stay relevant".
    And that's the truth, for all pop singers. They need to evolve, or change at least if they want to stay at the top. Madonna didn't get to be "The Queen of pop" sitting in her comfort chair.
    So Taylor needs to learn that renovate it's not bad, and she has to do it if she wants to keep competing in the game and receive positive feedback.
    Or do like The Nationals, became a small singer, releasing music for her and fans and let go from the top.
