Funny enough, The Adventures of Dr. Franken would later be released for the SNES in 1993, except with updated graphics and character sprites. It's kind of cool to see where some games got their start.
16:56 The game over screen in Nightshade traumatized me as a kid! Rented it once and it lived on as a hazy memory far more gruesome than it actually was. As an adult it took me ages to re-find the game. Most search queries returned Ninja Gaiden Arcade's buzzsaw game over screen.
Well done again! I also didn't know about the Famicom Pocky & Rocky roots! Definitely some interesting stuff in here that's worth checking out. EEEEEEEEEE
The level of detail on Metal Slader's graphics are truly shocking to see coming out of the NES. You can really tell it's a late NES game because the artists in it are using things like dithering and flickering to get a lot of mileage of the limited color palettes and graphic space.
idk if you already have it here or somewhere, but there's this creepy game I remembered a long time ago where it has a train stage, and the boss is a train driver who attacks with smoke.. The art style is goofy, kinda like classic comedy anime look, with large head etc. I don't remember anything else aside it being creepy and that it has bosses of some sort.
Ankoku Shinwa is interesting in that the manga is very esoteric, hard to follow if you're not familiar with the Japanese history/local myths; I'm not surprised at all they didn't localize the game back then. Seirei Gari is similar - folk horror and all that; Japanese players complain a bit that the game is a bit disjointed, but not too bad. There were also lots of murder mystery games, riding on the success of Portopia (and mostly, none of them managed to replicate it). We got very few adventure games back then, unsurprisingly, but there are some interesting ones on your list for sure.
I love when games name their egyptian god characters Sutek. Sutek means "Nip ple" in Polish, and its spelled exactly the same way (it's pronounced SOO-tech).
Ninja Jajamaru‐kun and the Ninja‐kun games are technically ninja yokai horror games. ...Except the one in space. Jajamaru fights an "army" of yokai commanded by a daimyou who kidnapped a princess. The first stage is even a graveyard. The Alien 3 port obviously sci-fi horror. Growing up, I felt Abadox was a horror game. lol Did you already cover Dr. Chaos? I'd say Gremlins 2, but that want even a scary movie.
HA. Bio Force Ape made an unexpected appearance. I think knowing you, you will just find any reason to talk about Bio Force Ape. :D Honestly, cool to see Pocky & Rocky on NES. Even if it sucks, I might give that a go. I never knew it started on the NES, much less that there was a NES version.
Oh man, i loved Kick Master, though i could never beat that final boss. Deja Vu was pretty cool too, though i didnt like it as much as Shadowgate, and Street Fighter 2010 was both amazing... and kinda trash. Another one of those i hate this game, but couldnt stop playing it because it was still somehow fun.
Nah, this band and other Japanese glam metal bands were more influenced with kabuki face paint which has been around much longer than Kiss. In their music, ok yeah they really love Kiss over there. Check out Kiss's photo from when they were in Japan, they would've looked like another 80s J-Metal band.
@@giselletorres4156A veces le explicas algo a uno de éstos hijos de Sam, y su pensamiento pendejo de que todo se centra en ellos no los hace reconocer que hay más inspiraciones para bandas de otros países🤡.
Great Video I am pretty sure you are not going to find a lot especially in a Nintendo game! Nintendo has for a long time had been absolutely no religion , no horror games and absolutely all is from another country’s. Pretty cool dude thanks!
@theusher2893 Oh no, now you won't be able to cite this video as a credible source when writing your PhD dissertation on NES horror games. For shame Burst Error, for shame! 😂
Burst Error horror content is a guaranteed winner.
@@ramrodbldm9876 like corn on the cob?
Kick Master looks incredible! You can really tell when a game is pushing the NES limitations to it's limits. And Metal Slader is just something else
thanks for another great one, very useful to have these listed in one place
Thank you for this! Majority were all new to me. Gold!!
Kickmaster is one of those under the radar games that looks like a modern retro game. Weird how I've only seen it being talked about more recently.
more people are discovering it through word of mouth. played it a few years ago. it's really good.
One of my childhood games together with Astyanax.
The most horrific thing to encounter in a video game:
Paywalls 😂
It’s sad how common they’ve become.

Pocky & Rocky is an awesome game!
Fighting Zeus in the name of Satan sounds like an amazing premise for a video game! ❤
A lot in there i'd never heard of, good job!
Love your videos!
Very cool!👍Monster party started it all for me as far as horror goes.I was playing it when brand new as a kid.Blew my mind at about 8-9 yrs old
Monster Party is THE BEST :)

Guardian Legend is so good, and so slept on

A comment for the algorithm! Love the content as always!
I had no idea about this power pad Jiangshi game 😲

I'd love to see a dark fantasy series like this, was sad that Faxanadu didn't make this list
Prince of persia and Ghosts n' Ghouls are the games that creep me out...

Kick Master great game for system highly recommend
Are there many horror games on the Gameboy and Gameboy Color?
a decent amount I think! I will get around to covering them someday :)

I couldn't find one. except for the Super Famicom remake.
kickmaster is my favorite inside MEME
Wheres Devil sword and Fuuma Den...
they're in Part 1 :)
Does anyone know how to capture gaming from a ds lite or a ps vita ? Or from a Nintendo switch lite?
video out hardware mods probably.
HELL YES!
excellent video!
also it's OVA in the "dark myth"introduction
not OAV
It's actually ONA

I think that's not a ghost but a KKK reference, just like the ones in Kid Dracula.
Calling Kickmaster a horror title is a loooong stretch at best and a disingenuous lie to pad content at worst.
