how about the "unofficial" port of Contra 3 for the NES it was like a NES prototype version or something (or maybe it was just some guys masochistic desire to create a NES port of Contra 3 Alien Wars for the NES)
Excellent video! This was a lot of fun to watch - it's very well made and shows a deep understanding of NES/Famicom library. I especially appreciate seeing Fire Bam and Yo! Noid, two of my favorite overlooked games from the platform 😄
Congratulations on 10 years man. I just found your channel but I'm pushing 40 and love all the old games from when I was a kid. I'll be binge watching your stuff fs. All the best!
I have heard of many of these games before, but I haven't heard of Fire Bam before. From the gameplay it looked like something I would be into, and turns out it is. I was kinda looking for a new hard game like this, thanks!
Another great Burst video! I was not even aware of the hard mode for Bucky O'Hare that is neat information! Also thanks for the tip for 8 eyes I still need to play this soon.
Getting plowed by a car in Mission Impossible was the most stress inducing and dumbest way to die in that game 😂😂 watching you spiral off screen brought back memories. 😂😂
Talk about nostalgia hit, I was playing this in the background and heard the Dino Riki theme song and instantly knew what it was. Haven't thought about this game in decades lol. Was an extremely hard game, can't remember if I beat it or not, but I did play it relentlessly.
Gotta love Werewolf: The Last Warrior and Zanac! Such great, memorable games! And that credit roll theme at the end of Werewolf! Fantastic! Right up there with Double Dragon 3's and also Ninja Gaiden I, II & III's!
Chubby cherub looks like he would be an absolute menace everywhere. The kind of person that doesn't get invited over cause he'll start a fire as soon as you leave the room
I’m so happy you added Nightshade. I played that game so much as a tween and a teen. You literally have to beat it in a specific sequence and quickly to get the right ending. It took me months to figure out how but it’s definitely a underrated game that hasn’t received much light by gaming commentators. Awesome.
I'm glad gbc crystalis doesn't have your weak attacks bounce of enemies, which NES was terrible grinding. The ninja jajamaru lost rpgs (not on physical) are impossible without quality of life lol good luck. Oh and 3:40 bucky soft locks you if you don't get that little guy first. U can beat video games channel helped.
Wow, I had completely forgotten about playing Time Lord but that distinctive music brought it right back. Also, I think Metal Mech is rather overlooked and I remember it being rather tough as a kid.
Loved this one! Time Lord is a big one among my friends and I. I first heard about it through the Legacy Music Hour and have since shown it to so many people. It's so fun explaining the absolute deranged logic of the game to people as they're playing 😂
Oh hell yeah. Love the thumbnail indicating these games are NOT for babies. In my experience: most things are not for babies. It's tough out there if you're a baby.
Always happy to see Isolated Warrior mentioned, it's one of the coolest looking games on the nes in my opinion and it seems to come up even less frequently than Kickmaster. Also I was totally expecting Zombie Nation for Z so I appreciate being surprised by a game that I'd somehow missed completely.
Quartz is great! Really love that. The game boy version I've heard has more levels than the phantom one. Had a lot of fun with your video and I gave you a thumbs up
Excellent video. Always good to see content with some thought put into it, instead of the typical "Battletoads and Ghosts n Goblins too hard! THEND!" Also here's a fun fact about The Untouchables: You move substantially faster on stage 3 (rolling on ground stage) in the Famicom version, which just makes the game so much less frustrating because heck stage 3. Not sure if that's what you were referring to by the different revisions.
oh cool! didn't know that about Famicom Untouchables. I was speaking to Rev0 and Rev1 versions of the NA release. which have different title screens too.
I feel like Pinball Quest would have been better than Pit Bot. It was cool to see 8 eyes here. I on board with the other people that have mentioned Moon Crystal. Fun video.
This is a brilliant list and video. (: I am aware of some weird games thanks to David, but most of these I didn't know about as well. Though, man, I can confirm, Nightshade was not easy to learn and play.
I got Orb 3d for Christmas one year. It was surprisingly much more fun than I originally thought. I actually beat it and it has one of those “that’s it?” kind of endings.
I'm impressed with how many titles I didn't recognize. I consider myself a bit of a retro afficionado and usually when people go "obscure games" it'll be incredibly mainstream :D
zanac was the very first game i ever had. my nintendo only had mario bros, no duck hunt i hated that game, but i fell in love with it as a teenager and finally beat it at 18 or 19. i miss the times my older brother and sister played with me. i miss them
Same! Could never beat the boss.....trying to remember him, I feel like he was a Juggernaut ripoff. Honestly the whole game kind of felt like it was designed as a Wolverine game lol. Or was "Juggernaut" the first boss? All I remember is i couldn't beat the second one lol.
I'm really surprised that the "heaven" trick for Chubby Cherub was covered. The game itself was of course never a huge hit and it's always felt to me that the only people who even knew about that bonus level were the ones who for whatever reason stuck with the game and seriously tried to beat it. What I REALLY wasn't expecting was to learn that there was a "hell" counterpart, which I literally didn't know until a minute ago. Incidentally, the "heaven" bonus level has a bug with its music, where one of the voices misses a note and consequently loops earlier than the other voice, causing the two voices to steadily grow more and more out of sync. Truly a high-effort, quality game.

Yeah. They were heck hard. I had some hard games for NES. I played them when I was young. Some of them I couldn’t beat. - Kid Icarus (maybe finished the game via normal? I remembered using the Code Cheat from the Nintendo Power book and I was confused and wondered about all items in the inventory, skipped to the final stage and the final boss. After tires, I finally reached the dark tower before the final boss, Queen. But I lost it because it’s my first time and unfamiliar on the way to up to the tower. Stopped playing it.) - Robocop (Heck hard. After many times I tried to be survived and got through the stages. I beat the red, aggressive final boss. After the credit ended, I started the game to see if I got any special or something. But nope. I completed it and quitted.) - DEJA VU (Almost survived but screwed up. Either I got arrested at the police station for hitting a lady with a gun pointing at me. Or a man shot me after we faced a few times. Maybe a little more and a few clues, I might have completed the game. But it’s okay.) - Ninja Gaiden (I beat it.) - Double Dragon (I beat it via easy and normal. Easy wouldn’t get you to finish the game.) - Double Dragon 2 (The same thing above. I beat it via normal.) - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( it’s awful and annoying when you tried to find the right ways to reach Shredder. I beat it but the end was weird yet happy and peace. lol) - Metal Storm (It could be hard but you could possibly beat it. It’s cool. You fought upside down on the ceiling too. I beat it.) - Bart vs The World (Maybe it’s one of my favorites as a teen? I liked mini games. I beat it a few times.) - RC Pro AM ( the control was not easy. I beat it a few times. For a long time I considered Isolated Warrior one of the hardest game when all of a sudden I got into some kind of flow and beat the game with losing only one life. I also beat DIno Riki (without using continue code), Bucky O'Hare (lots of continues needed!), Pin-Bot (I read that High Speed is even harder). James Bond Jr I couldn't even beat the first level. I did solve those annoying slide puzzles once but ran out of time afterwards. never tried again. Currently working on 8 Eyes.
I have to add Karnov. You are a Russian circus performer who can occasionally spit fire. 9 levels, 3 lives, no continues, and (spoiler) if you beat the game, you are rewarded with "Congratulations!". Hey that may be a fun list. Worst endings to "NES games"

Mission: Impossible is truly near impossible but still a very underrated and underappreciated game. Great stuff, can be extremely frustrating though. Lots of traps, strong enemies, crazy levels. The last level is HELL!
Ya boi (it's me, I'm ya boi) played SO much Quarth as a kid for the GB. Taught me a lot of difficult lessons about pushing my luck, lmao I had no idea it had a Famicom release, somehow!
Dino Riki was one of the first games I got for my Nintendo when I was a kid, and I loved it! It was hard, but I played it all the time and and got pretty good at it. Good enough that I was able to beat it most of the time. The music was good enough that I never got tired of it, and that flame weapon was really fun to use!
The only one on the list that I've even played was Dragon's Lair, and I remember renting it multiple times and barely getting past the first screen. They're probably not that obscure, but I really loved Roller Games. And I distinctly remember beating the NES Joe and Mac game before school one day, and being late to school because of it.
I had the Bucky O'Hare toys when I was a wee lad...I liked the game...but holy crap yeah that hard mode! Heard about several of these but only played that and Pinbot myself...that one was fun as a kid that didn't get frustrated never progressing. Ha.
The only 2 games I remember playing on this list were Bucky O'Hare and Side Pocket. I did eventually finish Bucky O'Hare when I was, I think 11 and I used to play Side Pocket with my little brother almost every day. We really liked that one and Super Dodge Ball for some reason. Other multiplayer games we really liked were Bad News Baseball and TROG. I never see anybody talking about those games.
Faxanadu and Rygar are the hardest games I remember, though I enjoyed playing both. The hardest was Rygar, mainly because it is a long challenge without a way to save your game. I would keep my game up on pause and come back to it later, praying to God the power didn't flicker. I beat it once as a kid after a week of grinding during the summer. Luckily I had my own TV in my room. It sucked to not be able to play other games whilest paused. I beat it a second time using an emulator while I was in college. You could create a save state...
I remember renting Dragon's Lair as a kid. I think I spent an hour or two just trying to get into the bloody castle. Finally gave up and never played it again.
i remember playing dino riki and yeah, one of the most frustrating games ever. .and my younger sibling kept begging me to play so they could watch me play it so i had to keep playing it for their entertainment even though i hated it. . another ridichard game that starts with "A" is Abadox. You should check that one out.
im only commenting on this because you included the "every letter" clause at the beginning of the video, but i never see King's Knight on these lists and that game always kicked my ass. especially when you get further in each stage and it starts walling you off. ive never even made it to the final stage let alone remember beating even a single one of them. yeah i know this is completely unrelated to anything in the video aside from obscure difficult NES games but im throwing it out there just to see if anyone else agrees.
Ive beaten Yo Noid & Bucky OHare, but it took me all but destroying my nes, they were both hard as nails for me. Another fun but difficult one is little nemo
Interesting thing about Werewolf. It was supposed to be a Wolverine game, but they lost the contract during development. So they had to change it to Werewolf.
thumbs up for this wonderful video. even seen some games unknown to me. and also i want to brag that this is an easy list, beaten every title of it when i whas 5 year old :D first video of you i've seen, and a hook for me, so im gonna check out your content. stay smart :)
I remember Dragon's Lair. I was like 7, bought it from a thrift store, and spent like 30 minutes trying to play the first level. Got 25 cents for trade value at a pawn shop a week later 😂
EVERY CONTRA GAME: th-cam.com/video/fe025Pcp_Vg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CY8zBDPoomlmaOIf
Thanks for this amazing walk down memory lane!
What do you use to make your videos man?
@@marbles8641 Glad you enjoyed! I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects mostly.
Some Contra isn't so bad once you get used to it, granted the Konami Code really helps.
😅👍

Bucky O'Hare mentioned, win!
Easy game actually... Aah so it has hard mode. Nvm
one of the easiest games lol, infinite continues
Bucky O'Hare, 8 Eyes, Isolated Warrior, Recca, Valis, Werewolf: The Last Warrior and Zanac are my favorite from this list!
When I heard that chubby cherub theme start playing... Oh no IT'S COMING BACK TO MY HEAD AAAAAH
Excellent video as always by the way!
That "Good!" Heavy Shreddin' picture absolutely sent me. Fantastic video!
Well spoken, keep up the good work

Isolated warrior giving me nostalgia, i was obsessed with that game as a kid.

Dino Rikki and Isolated Warrior showing up as strong representatives of ground based shoot em ups.

Faxanadu, Legacy of the Wizard and Moon Crystal are some of the most overlooked AND difficult games on the Famicom/NES
I was super close to putting Legacy of the Wizard on there, such an epic game

im only commenting on this because you included the "every letter" clause at the beginning of the video, but i never see King's Knight on these lists and that game always kicked my ass. especially when you get further in each stage and it starts walling you off. ive never even made it to the final stage let alone remember beating even a single one of them. yeah i know this is completely unrelated to anything in the video aside from obscure difficult NES games but im throwing it out there just to see if anyone else agrees.
it was definitely a fierce battle between Kings Knight and Kid Kool for the K spot!
Zanac is one of my favorites but really damn hard. Glad that there's a couple of teleport items that can be obtained to skip some stages
The number 8 starts with the letter E! All is well!! 😂😎✌️
omg Dragon's Lair. I never made it past the F-ing drawbridge!
Ive beaten Yo Noid & Bucky OHare, but it took me all but destroying my nes, they were both hard as nails for me. Another fun but difficult one is little nemo
James Bond Jr: the game based on the cartoon based on the movies based on the books.
Interesting thing about Werewolf. It was supposed to be a Wolverine game, but they lost the contract during development. So they had to change it to Werewolf.
thumbs up for this wonderful video. even seen some games unknown to me. and also i want to brag that this is an easy list, beaten every title of it when i whas 5 year old :D
first video of you i've seen, and a hook for me, so im gonna check out your content. stay smart :)
thanks!! :D
fun fact - werewolf was orginally supposed to be a wolverine game!
So that why the final boss is Magneto.

I remember Dragon's Lair. I was like 7, bought it from a thrift store, and spent like 30 minutes trying to play the first level. Got 25 cents for trade value at a pawn shop a week later 😂
Marble Madness and Super Pit Fall were two games I remember playing that were pretty brutal.
