For swingcopters, I strongly recommend adding something to make sure both balls dont go in the blue orb corridor, as it can lead to skips. Edit: Not thanking anyone for the likes, I just want to add context. In 2.1 people would create ball duals where one ball was stuck in a corridor with blue orbs and it made the other ball act like the swing.
People underestimate layouts, its really hard to make a good one. It can really carry levels with mid decoration. I do struggle when making layouts, thank you very much for this tutorial!
I see so many people that ONLY make gameplay lol The majority of creators I see are layout creators, so I'm not really sure what youre talking about tbh But I do agree, good gameplay could carry bad deco
Before reading - building only demon layouts is not a good idea to start learning making good gameplay, instead, start making easy gameplay, and if you feel comfortable, move on to making harder stuff only if you feel doing that. Pretty good video for begginers. The thing that I would personally recommend is that to play most recent featured and epic rated levels to indicate what mechanics are common these days. Checking levels from top creator's leaderboard is also a very good idea as it shows a ton of creators that are very familiar with most of the things about simple and fun gameplay (as well as decorations). The last thing, but likely most important one is to see how gameplay in levels is made - check what speed the part has, what structures it uses, what gameplay it uses, etc... For that, I recommend checking less difficult levels (nothing above hard demon for the beginning), to see all mentioned above things. Addictional help would also be to check some uploaded layouts or videos on TH-cam, layouts that are not complex and uses small amount of movements. These are very inspiring and probably helped me the most.
yo guys I had the same issue but when registering for an account, make sure the password doesn’t have characters other than letters and numbers. Example: ! or # Hope this helps u bros
11:00 If you want to make a harder/more open swing copter, make a cube go into a one block gap and set a green orb to follow your X and Y position with a Move trigger (put the Green orb and the move trigger on the same Y axis). if you want to stop, use a Toggle trigger. this will delete the orb unless you use an activating Toggle trigger on the same group.
That’s what I did with my levels ball part, I put some platforms and just put spikes on them but some are fake and some are real. I even need the player to PHASE through the platform and hit a invisible orb since I wanted it to be a demon level
You forgot the most notable mistake that people always commit: Trying to make their levels like RobTop's. Main levels are supposed to introduce and showcase mechanics, but when making custom levels you should assume that the people who are gonna play them are already familiar with the game.
Nice video, it teaches well the new creators. And a Word from my point of the view. Dont make layouts for be hard or eazyer, do it for express your creativity and your skills
Now overall, making good layouts is from experience, Testing out gameplay, Testing out effects, Asking yourself "Does this look good, is this sighreadable, is it synced, is it Fun, is it not bland, is it fit to the theme" if not. Fix it. Takes weeks, be patient. Thats it lol.
Thanks for this! If at all possible, could you make something like this, but more focused on Insane and Extreme Demons? I’m working on an Extreme right now that’s largely timing-based, but I also want to incorporate all types of gameplay (except memory and 2-player). I’m not great at making Extreme Demon gameplay, so something like that would help tremendously. Thanks again!
This video was made before 2.2 released, back then, that mode didn't exist as a seperate gamemode and creators had to use that dual ball trick to make swing parts.
Fascinating, great advice, personally i build a level separately of gameplay (split up) e.g first part 5s then i deco that same 5s and move on to the next parts gameplay, so i don't make the full layout at once so this was helpful, thank you.
By the way, the letter blocks actually stand for specific things. Like the D block stands for 'Dart' J block stands for 'Jump' H block stands for 'Hit' S block stands for 'Stop' F block stands for 'Flip'
this tutorial is very usefull since i already make epic layouts now i can make layouts epic which is very epic making a layout is epic because you are epic and making a layout is very epic and cool
I can imagine an extreme demon but with fun song and really fun decoration and not look too intimidating but hard as f, tho like for me slow paced song with fast paced gameplay doesn't feel to work much imo
My gameplay for my lvl "ClubDeath" that's in progress the lights are off but they will flicker before gameplay so you have to remember what the gameplay is then do it completely blind.
Well I do have 2 minigame tutorials (the ultimate minigame tutorial and the platformer tutorial). What mechanics would you like me to explain in another minigame tutorial? :)

Here are some things that I think should also be thought about when making layouts as well as things I disagree with which were stated in the video. Part 1: 1. Making your layouts look good can make it easier to decorate. When you have ugly structures, you may have to completely change them to make something look good when decorating. It depends on how you create though. (1:16) 2. Layouts don't only have to be gameplay, it is the foundation of your level, so if you have any ideas, you can also roughly integrate them into your layout with simple effects, block design, movements, etc. (1:35) 3. You don't have to change EVERYTHING someone says when giving feedback unless it's about bugs. What they say are simply suggestions that you should think about. Your gameplay is your gameplay! (2:16) Part 2: 1. (This is a little more advanced) The game modes and speed you use and how you use them can represent how the song feels and flows. This will make the song feel like part of the level and overall make it a more fun experience. When people in the community give feedback, they will often call this "note representation" or "note rep." (3:10) 2. I wouldn't recommend you sync every single part of the melody to a click. This might get boring after some time. Try to sync to more than just the melody, you can sync to the drums, the bass, or even create an original pattern that fits the song! (3:59) Part 3: 1. Keep in mind that everything should feel like the player's fault when dying. (4:49) 2. (This is a little more advanced) There's nothing wrong with making something that isn't easy to read as long as the player doesn't consistently die to something without knowing why. With memory gameplay, for example, the players will need to practice first to learn the gameplay. This is something that should be reserved for harder levels because people will need to practice hard levels first anyway. (5:11) 3. An easy way to fix a blind jump without having to actually change your gameplay is to make it start on screen and move into position. However, all of this should be visible. (5:11) 4. (This is pretty advanced) It is possible to make portals invisible without making them sightreadable. As well as the player can react to the changes easily and there are no skips, it can be fine. I would only suggest doing this be done in demon difficulty levels however because casual players don't have as much understanding with the game as people who consistently play do. (5:23) 5. Balancing levels and fixing bugs is hard, you can get other people to playtest your level to fix bugs and make the difficulty balanced. As the creator, the level will be easier for you to do because you know exactly what to do and it may work perfectly on your device. (7:05) (7:40) 6. Repetitive gameplay can be fun as long as it fits the song, just don't drag it out for long periperiods make the thing you want to repeat interesting. I wouldn't sugget you do this throughout the entire level though, just through each part. (7:19) 7. No one wants to wait a long time to die. Make it take a short amount of time to die, but enough time for the player to react. (7:57) 8. Note that death effects make it take longer to start the next attempt. (8:20) If you have anything to add or disagree with something I said, feel free to reply. Also, sorry about the length, I usually try to keep things short, but since this is for new players I need to explain a lot more.
