To save getting metal on the magnet run the magnet underneath the container. If material is magnetic you will see it move around. Saves having to try and remove swarf from magnet. Also if you clean off sump plug with white toilet paper it is easier to see if particles comes off sump plug.
Thank you so much for the content , you really have teacher blood on you vains. You make everything look so easy and explain all the Litlle things to look for. Many thanks all the way from Portugal. Looking forward for the Next mantenaince videos.
Tnx The video is important !! in my opinion every rider must know how to take care of his bike. As for the filter, I fill it up to half height, which is actually plus or minus 0.1 liter. That way, even in the first start, the filter is already half full and makes for better damping, and after that I get to put exactly 3 liter bottles.
@Teacher-T-Thailand I saw a chap in India changing his oil, he actually flushed the engine with a small amount of cooking oil, before adding fresh bike oil, to flush out any dirt particles.
Greetings from Colorado. Enjoy your videos. I just rode home on my SM Tuesday. Bought it to be able to keep riding while I slowly bring my tired 1990 Harley back to life, and I find I'm really enjoying the SM. It reminds me of the bikes i started riding back in the early '80's. Suddenly, I'm 18 again 😀.
Thank you so much. Yes, don't bikes do that to you. I was lucky to live in the country and started riding bikes from an early age. No police or cares back then. I still have the same thrill every day to this day. Good luck with the Harley 🙏
Thanks, I'll need good luck. My wife is looking at me sideways when I mention getting parts needed for the Harley; more so after picking up the Super Meteor. And you know the old saying, H-D stands for "hundreds of dollars". But where there's a will, there's a way. Thanks for your informative and entertaining content, and ride safe.
Thanks for sharing T. Love the content.Thai culture and R E,beautiful.Myself and the mrs were based in Bangkok in March (fifth visit) and had a fabulous time.Would have loved to travelled more extensively around the 'land of smiles'but sadly as time moves on the body can no longer take the 'punishment'.
Aren’t they great. So proud of them. They can speak Chinese, Thai and English. Smart talented kids. Two of my boys just won gold medals in the National English competition. Many thanks 👌🙏
Good job on tightening oil filter and plug. The key is to snug it by hand and tighten a bit more. I have done all my oil changes for years and never had a problem on any brand including RE, Honda, Harley, Yamaha, and Triumph. My first oil change recently on my Triumph T120, 1200cc, only got 3.5 qts out and the spec calls for 4.75 qts. Glad i did the oil change myself at 600 miles. 🎉
In Thailand they do everything to save you money. 3 litres of oil in instead of 3.1, saving you buying 1 litre of oil. But of course that is not correct. I prefer to do my own basic maintenance tenancy these days. Good run of motorbikes you’ve had there. All the best 🙏
Whenever I do an oil change, on any bike, the FIRST thing I do is write 'oil' on a piece of masking tape and stick it on the ignition switch, preventing the key from being inserted. Also, like you, I never torque drain plugs as they only need pinching up.
Good video, thanks Teacher. Even for horizontal filters you can fill the core with oil with very little risk of spilling any before you tighten it. With the muddy shot it looks as though the horn should be relocated. The residue in the oil can also be related to the cam chain tensioner wear plate bedding in, not of concern.😂
Thank you for the amazing video! It helps me a lot. Just a question: Why did you replace rhino racing exhaust with the stock ones? thank you in advance
No problem. I’ve never installed aftermarket exhausts to my bike. But I am considering the Rhino racing ones. I needed to use my money on comfort issues first. 🙏
Hi T.. how much did that oil change cost you for oil and filter from RI? I was a little surprised by what my dealer charged for a supposedly free 500 mile check up. No charge for service but oil and filter 2,500 baht.
I paid 1,600 baht for the oil, 490 for the filter and 30 baht for the washer. What you paid seems about right to be honest. They may charge for chain lube and other consumables extra also. Just check the oil is to the top max line. At my 500km service it wasn’t. I think in Europe no free service at all. 🙏
Hi Teacher-T, a viewer from Madrid Spain, thanks a lot for your video, really appreciate your information, just a wee question…how do you know the torque’s settings of your SM 650…?, I have a Celestial Red one and I’m really interested to know it…I will appreciate your answer. All the best. Bob.
Sometimes I email RE direct for an answer. Today I used a list a friend made about the Interceptor 650. But people are saying 35:nm on the drain bolt is too high. Which is what I felt also. So didn't do it. So my list is wrong for the 2nd time. No official list as of yet. Sorry. Thanks for watching 🙏
Couple of odd things on the video, why would water in the oil be of concern on the super meteor, oil filter, nip up by hand and then quarter of a turn more is pretty much industry standard, a lot of oil filters are in very difficult positions on some vehicles so torque setting are impossible to set. Keep up with the videos, big RE fan, looking forward to the new models next year.
Ha ha ha. You are absolutely correct. Why on earth would water enter oil in an oil air cooled bike. A complete brain fart on my behalf, and thanks for being the first to point it out. I suppose I was eager to provide as much info as possible, and got confused with my other bike which is water cooled. Yes the new RE models seem to be getting better and better. All the best 👌😂🙏
On the filter most bikes are between 3 quarters to one revolution after hand tight. That's what I did here. As for the drain bolt 35nm seems too high. Viewers are suggesting pinch tight. Nothing more. Have faith 🙏
Good afternoon Teacher T. I hate it now. Not one dedicated Royal Enfield dealership here in the UK. And those shops that sell Royal Enfield's do not seem to stock any parts at all? So from drain plug washers to oil filters you order on-line? Even the 10w50 synthetic oil, on-line again as no one round here stocks it? Same with the Dot 4 clutch and brake fluid? And that was a principle reason why in the late 1970s onwards I rode Honda's, as Honda dealerships were everywhere! Not so much now sadly? That white line you drew on your oil filter I noticed my local bike shop does the same thing. Great minds I'm guessing. Safe cruising and see you in the next one sir 👍😊.
It's the same problem for me here. I have to pre order basic consumables. Nothing in stock. Which is why I had a moan at the beginning of the video. Looks like the focus is on producing new bikes. I would have thought consumables like pads and filters would be more profitable.
My 2019 Interceptor was serviced by the dealer every 10.000 km. My Super Meteor got the same engine as the Interceptor and yet I noticed in your video a service interval of 5.000 km? Oil change every 5.000 km?
Sadly I made a mistake on the microphones. I recorded in stereo instead of mono, with 1 microphone. So sound is only on one side only. Very sorry. Lesson learned.
un ottimo lavoro....ma attenzione i filtri olio di macchine e moto non vanno stretti così tanto . Si stringono a mano più che si può e dopo con la chiave si da mezzo giro .
35nm is 25.8 ft pounds. I don't see how it can be that high with steel into aluminum. Every bike I've owned it was 12-15 ft pound. Which is still too much because factory torque specs are DRY. Drain holes have oily threads. Lubricated threads increase the actual torque on the bolt a lot over what the setting says. With a crush washer all you need to do is snug it up. My tighten by feel has tested out at about 10 ft pounds (13.5 nm) Never had a leak.
Yep. Seems the list I was given is wrong. Hence the reason I didn't apply it. Just wish there was an open source of torque settings for this bike. Thanks for info 🙏
@@Teacher-T-Thailand Coolio 🙂 I am also on a crusade to educate people on what lubrication does to actual applied torque (it can increase it up to 100%). So many tales of stripped threads during oil changes! I do like the bike. Not in the market as long as my Indian is performing so well. But one negative I see is the really frequent valve lash adjustment interval. Even my Suzuki S40 was 6500 miles. Like oil changes it is required that the rider learn how to do it. Like the channel!
I’M surprised you are changing the front brake pads at 10,000 km, my Super Meteor has done 15,000 km and my front brake pads have heaps of meat on them still.
@@larrywade9041 This has always been a contentious point: some car/motorcycle manufacturers recommend running the engine to warm up the oil, others prescribe draining the oil when the engine is cold because then almost all of the exhausted oil has settled in the sump. I personally warm it up for three or four minutes, regardless of what is prescribed.
Greetings from Greece. It’s always a good idea to get the engine in operating temperature, to get the oil nice and runny. Then wait 4-5 for all of it to settle before you start draining it. I’ve been changing oil in cars and motorcycles for more than 30 years and I’ve never used a tool to tighten an oil filter. Just hand tighten as much as I can.
Nothing like working on your bike surrounded by mother nature. Thank you Mr. T.
Ha ha Thank you. Yes I am very lucky living here in rural Thailand 🙏

That struggle with the oil filter removal strikes me as the dealership installed it without oiling the sealing ring !
