I went to a JLR dealer in Preston a few years a go with my brother who owned a XF, he went to get it serviced. I love Range Rovers so happily sat in them on the showroom floor and unfortunately was not impressed at all. So, I walked through the glass doors to the Jaguar showroom and looked at this beautiful car called the XJ! I got in and settled into the most comfortable, well fitting machine and fell in love. I did not want to get out! My brother came looking for me and I was in dream mode in 'my' XJ. It was beautiful! It is beautiful and I went off Range Rovers there and then.

Funny how a similar thing happened with me. Visited the JLR dealership with a family member to see about the possibility of buying a RR Sport but we both walked out loving the XJR575. Beautiful looking machine, incredibly comfortable and a crazy amount of power for a 4 door saloon at the time. They looked so much cooler than the german counterparts.

I had the good fortune to own a Supersport for a while, and it was simply epic. Better-equipped than the R, slightly more pliant ride, slightly more subtle appearance. The looks grew on me more and more over time. Every journey was an occasion and the engine was perfectly happy either cruising gently or ripping your face off. We took it on a tour to Scotland and it was fabulous both at eating distances and blasting down twisty roads with the astonishing engine at full roar. I can confirm getting solidly into the 30s mpg on a long run, or about 5mpg in traffic. Don't sit in traffic. I think this car is a classic and I miss mine every day.

Personally, I love the styling of the XJ even from the back. Nothing else in this class, has such beautiful lines. Hated the blacked out C-pillar when it was launched, and still think the air vents look like gargoyles in the dashboard, but apart from those minute details, I love the XJ.

    • @-A-lm5xb

That rear and the size makes it, for me, the only modern Jag that is imposing. Was very sorry to see the old XJ design gone for good but this has grown on me. The smaller saloons' rears are sort of generic looking.

    • @-A-lm5xb
      @-A-lm5xb ปีที่แล้ว

Don't really agree with that, the rear on the XF (certainly on the earlier models) is a little reminiscent of the Aston Martin DB range. Completely different to the BMWs, Audis, Alfas, and many more that are almost indistinguishable apart from the badge.

Love this car so much! For me, the X351 XJR is the only big saloon I'd consider, and for me a lot of it is the looks (which I'd say is one of the best designs ever made) and the engine, but also the fact that they put the effort in to make it light (for the size). If I ever need more than 2 doors, this is straight where I'm going!

Most of the complaints in the reviews of the XF seemed to be that the interior was dated, and that was mostly aimed at the infotainment system. I'm not a fan of the newer design trend of a large touchscreen that looks as though it's been stuck on as an afterthought, I loved the earlier XF because it was built into the dash, but the latest one has the "floating" screen to accommodate the size of it. Just spoils the whole dash for me.

Ian Callum knew what he was doing. The 575 is a fantastic driving machine, with a somewhat different mix of Jaguar's "Grace, Space and Pace" mantra. I have a xjr 2016 since November last year and love it, can’t see my changing for some time. Before this I have a xj portfolio 2015 v6 diesel but unfortunately after 6 weeks of ownership the crank snapped, new engine needed. Fortunately dealer reimbursed me which is why I went for the v8 monster.

My dream car would be this engine (and any other good bits) put into the much more beautiful yet also agressive and gangster X350 XJR in black with chrome bits. I dont mind the looks of these but they're not even close to being as good looking as the previous model. I'd give that lovely supercharged 5ltr V8 a tune for 600bhp too. This would then make my absolute ultimate family car. I'd have plenty of space for my 3 kids and such a classy looking inside n out perfect motor! Heaven! All i need to do now is buy the car, the engine, get the engine fitted and all set up properly, I'd need the better brakes all round too. So i need a lottery win ASAP, that'd help with the roadtax, insurance and fuel and running costs and...........

My X350 is at 180,000 miles and I love it to bits, however I suppose one day it's going to fail dramatically. As I'm soon to be inside ULEZ I could either replace it with a petrol X350 (probably the V6) or maybe a late Euro 6 compliant X351 3.0 diesel. Hmm

I had a X350 which I loved. I believe that was the last of the 'proper' Jags, they have to have walnut in abundance for me. My love of Jaguars died through it's woeful dealer network. I have a 575, I hit the magical 40mpg too on a long motorway run. It was the worst purchasing experience of my life including the dealer having crashed it, doing a bad job covering that up, and reselling it with year old photos. It was a main JLR dealer. I nearly rejected it and only stuck with it and had everything sorted out because finding them in metallic green is impossible. I only found out about the damage, which they never admitted and got very defensive about, when I went to pick up the missing headrest from the previous owner whose paperwork theyd accidentally left in the car.

Reliability issues are hugely overexaggerated. Ford did a great job of ensuring reliability since they stepped in. I own an XJ308 which I have driven for 250K now. Including previous owners, it is now well above 400K. And sure, it needs taking good care of, but so would a Mercedes or BMW of this age and maturity. And neither of these cars makes you forget you are in a car. An XJ makes you feel like you would with a friend.

Ian fixed everything with the Jaguar XF estate. Similar space as the standard wheelbase. More cargo apace. Immensely better styling. A decade ago the X-type estate could be had for peanuts. The estate now five years old is holding its value better than anything in JLR's line up, including F-types, at least in the states.
