I can attest, that most of my dming is, "yeah that monster should be dead by now", or, "Considering it's a boss, I decided to give it an additional 100hp." So far, the players I share with my brother like most of my combat more, since I am very lax with the rules, and allow funny things, (like how all the party members cast 3rd lvl thunderwave to launch the barbarian away), whereas my brother, goes into it with deep ingenuity and plays every monster how it would act and fight. Like Blue dragons, being absolute fucking nightmares to fight.

The funny part is that I am the voice of the party because the rest of my party will either try to make the people we interact with drunk, or try to kill then. So calling out the murder hobos is funny to me.

Ok thumbnail called me out but I have a neat idea and need feedback-
So what if there were 3 types of actions, and you can take one per turn-
Light actions-Low damage weapons and spells tend to use this, but using it allows you to use a bonus action to use another lightweight thing.
Midweight actions- have no penalty, just act like regular actions.
Heavy actions- For particularly high damage weapons and spells.
Using it costs half of your race’s base movement speed.
I do actually have a reason to have this. This campaign takes place in a post apocalyptic world where civilization is slowly rebuilding, but in some places of the world there are ancient broken down cities, and futuristic weapons are rare items that hold extreme power. As well as that, guns in 5e don’t work very well, and I wanna have that.
So, functionally, this means that you can brace yourself (15 feat of movement lost), fire a railgun with your heavy action and deal 2d12 damage in one attack at like, level 3 or 4 as a non spellcaster, and then have to spend your next turn using a light action to reload the railgun, and then use your light bonus action to dash to cover.
Pretty varied scenarios, but enemies can use and abuse this too. For example, I’m going to have a sea monster boss early in, where there are 5 tentacles that have no heavy action abilities, but, if it doesn’t use an action on its turn, it passes that action to the next tentacle in initiative, and that includes bonus actions acquired by using light actions. (They can stack up to 4 extra actions.)
so, if you did read this all, please tell me what you think of it in the replies. I need to have this be sorta balanced beforehand, and I’m open to criticism

I think utilities and weapons should be listed in categories before-hand to avoid confusion like "does dispell magic count as a light action?"

    • @PrismTheLoser
      @PrismTheLoser ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@mishagaming1075 Oh yeah, fully intend on listing pre-existing stuff in that
I’m gonna do all the weapons before, and rule spells as light, midweight, or heavy as I go, because there are too many spells to not do that.
Edit: also, dispel magic probably is a light action

7:12 you can't, at least in my tables. I got way too many players that would non chalantly cheat on their character sheets, so before the first session i ask to review their sheet, just to know if they're doing things right. That is a trope i got after teaching DND to over 30 people, who constantly asked for help with their sheets

How does the Rakshasa's limited magic immunity work? If he would be affected by a spell of 6th level or lower, he can choose to not be affected. If he would be affected by a spell above 6th level or a non-spell magical effect, he has advantage on any saving throw he would have to make from said effects.
What does it mean by "effect?" Something that would affect him. It could be a damaging effect, an effect that gives him a status condition, reduces his speed, ect.
What does it mean by "affect?" He can choose to not be "affected" or in other words he can ignore the effects of whatever he can choose not to be affected by.
If a person who was revived by revivify negatively affected him would he be unalived? No. The person would come back to life and the Rakshasa would be unaffected. If the question means would the revival fail, then also no. The Rakshasa isn't affected by the revivify, as in he's not a target of the effect, so the limited magic immunity means nothing there.

I've never hated min maxers, if they do that I just let them go past level 20 by multiclassing with the second class going to max 20 as well then just go absolutely fucking ham in self contained grinders that are lore accurate and stuff, if they want to go ham let em, and I don't just grinder them the whole time either, they want to have fun, so I still give em hordes of lil gobbos and stuff like that, we're all here to have a good time. plus you can make RP situations even if they're murderhobo's by adding fun concepts and rules like speaking a real life second language for languages players can't understand, and if they learn them in real life they get to speak the language in the game. they can't break your game if you just throw strict rules out of the window and instead make it somewhat of a "frame" that they can fit into howsoever they choose

LGBT folks are commonly known to relate to characters that are demonized by people around them for being born a certain way that isn't as easy to predict as skin color and doesn't have any actual impact on their moral character.
So naturally we gravitate towards a player race that consists of people who have a bit of actual demon placed somewhere in their family tree branches that has no effect on where they go on the alignment chart.

People are talking about getting out of boss fight with 1 hp but what about just regular encounters? DM made us fight with 2 semi draconic lizards or god knows what that was. Our warlock came out downed, cleric with 2 hp and one lvl 1 spell slot and my bard 1 hp with no spell slots. Those encounters are the worst. We came there underleveled
