Smolik was so ahead of his time. Flip in flip out, all kinds of 270s shoves and bigspins into and out of stuff, and back in 98. Part still holds up now.
And even a lot of skaters that did part take in the wholw baggy scene admit that it was a really bad trend. In fact, I don't think I have seen an interview from any of those guys that say "you know what? Wearing pants five sizes bigger, and wheels size 30 was a great idea and fashion trend". If anything it just has nostalgia, and that's why it seems better. Plus, today's skaters don't wear extremely skinny jeans. You know who did? Corey Duffel and he fucking rips....
I was 13 when this came out, and me and my buddies used to skate around 35 hours a week! We were obsessed! This whole baggy look was just normal at the time. I mean, Peter Smolik pushed it a bit further, but all the skater dudes I went to high school with had bigger pants. Fashions come and go. I do miss those days.
I remember watching this part years later after I watched it initially (when it came out) thinking, "Man this guy was really, REALLY good." Now in 2021 I just shake my head. There's no other skater I can think of growing up that was as underappreciated and underrated as Peter Smolik. The tricks he does in this part are just mind-blowing when you consider it was 1998. I think the "ahead of their time" thing is kind of overused but in Smolik's case, it is absolutely warranted.
He was really popular in 98-2000- at least among teenage skaters in my neck of the woods (bay area). And his Osiris ods were really popular(had a pair myself- loved skating those shoes). He didn't have Muska levels of appreciation but that was true of pretty much everyone else in that period. I had the fulfill the dream vhs at the time and my personal favorite was Steve Olson because i thought his style was the most interesting. His skating had this really cool, almost lazy sort of just-don't-give-a-phuk type of style to it
@@gregorsamsa1364 Yeah dude Olson was awesome too. A kid I used to know was obsessed with Shorty's around that time. Another friend of mine used to joke and call Smolik "Peter Small-dick" which still cracks me up to this day. All in fun. We all loved Fulfill the dream.
Met him at a party in PB a little after this came out, we were both kind of drunk, he was super cool when I asked him about it. Such a talented and under rated legend. Used to also see Olson around town doing weird Olson stuff like yoga on the sidewalk or super boned out switch shifty ollies on flat. PB was the SPOT in 98, and pro sightings were always fun. Stoked to watch this 20+ years later, and his part is still amazing
Remember 98' like it was yesterday. Back when skating was about having a fun. Lots of seriousness came into the sport since then. Fulfill the Dream is still fucking fun to watch. That VHS tape got raped. Too many replays
***** I had a copy made, but it ended up at a friends house. Luckily that friend ended up converting it (much later) to digital format so I could watch it on my computer. I would guess I've watched it over a hundred times, if not more. From start to finish.
man when i was a teen in the 90s peter smolik was my heroes man he was the stylish dude ever and when i skated i strived to have the style like him i used to watch fulfill the dream all the time just his part its weird seeing him not when im 30yr old this year hes got long hair but still skating like i remember hes great i wish nothing but the best for him
Skateboarding in itself is the most creative world you can be a part of, its amazing how much effort and work is involved with every second of footage being edited. 0:36 MAN ON THE ROOF!
i still remember going to the park one day (in flagstaff arizona) and seeing Smolik leaving and i shouted to him "hey I got your shoes!" as we passed each other. this video part was insane at the time
I was growing up watching this Peter damn great smolik skating and fluently street style and listen to hip hop music till now still feel the aura 96-2018 damn thank you skateboarding feel blessed growing up as a late 70’s kids everything changes now but not me(proud to be 38yr old man and still burning the street like I don’t give a damn cuz skateboarding is not a crime but it’s a lifestyle and passion that no one can take away from you 🔥❤️💯☝🏽🤙🏼
Always been one of my favorite video and this part was the bomb (loved Aaron snyder too)! Got me hype to skate each time, what a legend! Steez for days!
i wish skating was still like this. now it's like if your trick isn't 100% clean, it doesn't make the video and the skater has to go redo it. this is dope, you can tell once he lands the trick, it's considered a done deal. and there not worried about people being in the background of the clip, or people yelling/cheering. that's what it should still be like.
He always did a bit of a dopedance, but he definately one of the best and most technical videoparts of the late 90's. This, Osiris The Storm and Guilty =D
It's hard to believe he was just 21 or so when he filmed this. I was only like 16 when I saw this, but now I'm 26. It's weird to think that he was younger than me at this point, and still so goddamn rad of a skater...
Style of the fuckin year indeed!! This fool never flaps his wings. This shit was revolutionary. Sucks everyone on this team just kinda faded away for one reason or another..
Take notes new skaters. This guy was doing these tricks way before they were standard. Imagine the shock we felt when we saw this part. Wish the new breed would know what that was like.
The group rapping in this skate vid was the Federalz (later changed the spelling to tha Fedaralz in the Shortys Guilty vid..) I have a clean/full version of this song w/o the skate sounds but I noticed one of the voices rapping is different, and towards the end of the song someone says, "Federalz 2001"... which was few years after this vid was made so I'm guessing I have the version they recorded for their studio album
it sounds like the sandpeople but im not sure of the song name. your best bet would be to try and pick out some lyrics and then google them in quotations and it may come back with something. there is also a chance that the sandpeople were performing under a different group name at the time, this video is a few years old
No one gives this guy the credit he deserves. He was doing kickflips back tails to kickflips out before P Rod started doing that shit
Said that shit myself before looking at comments
Smolik was so ahead of his time. Flip in flip out, all kinds of 270s shoves and bigspins into and out of stuff, and back in 98. Part still holds up now.
+Dystopia1980 my exact thoughts. Wonder what happened to him? Don't think I saw a part from him except this one.
Osiris3657 He runs the company Sk8mafia now. I think he still skates but not sure how seriously. I follow him on instagram @lord_pillage
+Dystopia1980 Smolik still skates as much as ever :)

Peter Smolik is my favorite skater ever.... He deserves a lot more respect...

That look is starting to come back into circulation.
This look is in again for skaters at least, which I like.
Hey same age !
I had to buy a second copy of this VHS because I watched it so much. Fulfill the Dream was legend!

Probably my favorite and most influential video part of all time. I was always hyped to skate after watching this part and still am today.

Same here dude.. I tried to emulate his style it was so fresh! Watching this again after 20 years he fucking ripped!
The rollaway at 2:17 was EVERYTHING back then.
i dont think people give him enough credit seriously this guy was definitely pushing tech skateboarding forward all those ledge tricks were so tight!
smolik is a beast thgis part one of the best ever
My favorite part from back in the day. No one could touch this in '98!
This guy needs way more credit seriously he was light years ahead of anyone still to this day this part would be amazing if it was released today
i forgot how great his style was. And this was lightyears ahead of its time...
smolik makes those 90s style fs flips look really good
one of the all time greats.

This guy inspired me as a kid. Muska was the best but smokik had the most talent
Dude has style for miles! That kicky back tail kicky out was fire!
Hell yeah that shit was so sick! This and muskas parts were crazy!!!! Whole video is incredible.
it aint no party if you dont got a keg
exacly... master.. we got to remember that this video got 96, 97,98 footage... and this guy is skating better than many pros now.
This was the game changer.

He really made technical ledge skating look so much better than anyone else. I used to watch this part on repeat.
Love of street style hip hop skateboarding all the way to ODS, this guy really inspiring
Fun times back then just ripping it up during the day and watching fulfill the dream at night for inspiration for the next.

Its been 13 years and Peter is still my favorite skater!
skateboarding was always about the fun this whole video shows that fullfill the dream the best skateboarding video that inspired to skate.
I think i saw this video 1 time a day in the end of 90's... always before go skate! SMOLIK GREAT INSPIRATION
This video came out just before I started skateboarding. This part used to get me so hyped-still does. Good energy.
reminding the good days
yeah, people just think of him as this loud gangster dude and don't really understand that he's actually a really good tech skater
Why is no one talking about the fact that he literally switch back 5-0s the hubba ledge. That is just insane in and of itself to think about.
i still got my S HORTY S shirt from 1998. the best days of skating
good quality !!!! awesome video !! and a great skater !!!! yeeaahhhhh !!!!
Best skate video ever!

Badass!! Fulfill the Dream is always inspiring, always makes me wanna go out and skate. "This shits got pop!!"
the boardslide at 3:29 haha. what a legend
He always did a bit of a dopedance, but he definately one of the best and most technical videoparts of the late 90's. This, Osiris The Storm and Guilty =D
He was doing combos people couldn’t even think of. Peter smolik was the best skater on shortys. It was between him and chad
1:51 how dope is that they filmed that through the fence.

Hahah foreals lame ass kids and their techy shit these days . i caught the last of that wave in late 99, badass fun times.
Ok grandpa
Let me guess, you had to walk 50 miles to school , back when gas was $1.00/gal
LOL I really do, my older brother is 14 years older than me but I watched the VHS tape many many times when I was super young.
Dude was so ahead of his time
Holy shit mad control of the board, he really inspired me to go skate right now

One of my favorites, I miss the Shorty’s days..

No cellphones , masks , or electric bikes on this video clip 👊
thanks homie!
This would be a sick part if it came out today....amazing.
peter was very good at rotational skating, look for it, hes really good at it. spins spins and more spins, 180s 180s 360s, sick style, great skater.
