Part of it is the music selection. People had great taste in music and much more variety of tastes back then nowadays everybody listens to that mumble rap stuff. Having the right music can make for break a video part.
It was just a different era where people were hungrier for stylish, original tricks. Skating is more skilled than ever but skateboarding is so mainstream now, it's literally in the Olympics now, skating is too laid back now, there's definitely a component that has been lost. People skate so hard now, it just looks so much better when you barely look like your like you're putting in effort. Plus everyone has the same exact style now, everyone skates like Nyjah, I love his skating but Nyjah is a schill who has to wear a Monster energy hat 100% of the time. Miss that kid with dreadlocks and actual pants, not golf socks and short shorts lol. Gotta respect the OG Tony Hawk but he paved the way for selling out to shitty corporations, bagel bites? He literally played a character that was just product placement, he played the Pizza Hut delivery guy in the 80s skate movie 'Gleaming the Cube' starring Christian Slater, pretty dope movie. Shows Rodney Mullen doing crazy rooftop freestyle.
@@tylergroves9049 that, and skateboarding was still so underground that they didnt have the rights to use the music most times. like, the old zero videos that used stuff from like metalica and black sabbath, at the tine, using that music should have cost them a half million dollars. but they just used it anyways because why not? they are still selling VHS
Like what, Nyjah doing some kind of nollie flip to fs lipslide? I mean that’s all you ever see him do and everyone talks about how groundbreaking his runs are.
Thank hod he had those bulky early 00s Circas on when he punted that board because he would have broken every bone in his foot doing that in any pair of today’s shoes
Shit i still have the Kenny Anderson's in good enough condition to skate but they don't make them any more they would work still for this type of beating
Cole kicks that board so damn hard in that intro clip. I remember me and my friends trying to see how far we could kick our boards after we saw this video and it's insane how far he kicks that thing. The furthest any of us got was like 6-8 ft, and Cole kicks it like 15 ft + and it's still in the air when the clip ends. Dude could kick a hole through a wall.
Cant forget about that fallen video part that may even have more difficult tricks than this. The main difference is this was the end of the VX era and Ride the Sky was the very beginning of HD
This is the grade A tier of selecting the perfect song to correspond with the skate part. Chris Cole hits so hard and the song marries his skating/movements so well, it elevates the footage in my opinion to another level. Genius song selection.
2024 and this part is still one of the gnarliest, all these years watching it and never realize how crazy was that kick in the board on the beginning of the part, if I do that my shin would be in pain for a week
I fucking love this. Classic Chris Cole. I remember seeing this when I was 19 and skating hard. This inspired me. Just like it is now. Always picks great music too.
His style is so structured and textbook. He’s thorough with each trick with pretty much complete control of the board. Not sloppy at all. Definitely in my top 5 all time. I mean that ender changed my life…
Everytime I watch this I get chills from just how Amazingly Good and what A BEAST Chris Cole is on a board an how good this part was an still is to this day 16 Years almost 17 years later! It's so good to see Chris back on Zero it's his Home if you ask me! He belongs with Jamie an the guys! 💪💪💪
I'll never forget the first time I saw the backside 360 kickflip down that four block. Before I saw this part I didn't think that trick could look clean or could be done down anything big. I remember rewinding 10+ times in disbelief, like my brain didn't want to accept what I was seeing was real.
I wish I could go back in time and watch this complete video for the first time again. My brother remains a huge fan of Chris and when I saw this part, I became a fan. dude was sick.
Chris Cole is the man! Some great Sydney spots especially the Railway Square stairs at 0:53 which look even steeper in person. This is a classic and a trip down memory lane!
It’s hard for me to see him in SLS and he knows that he is older and has a family and he can’t hard as this video. But he will always be the goat to me. Chris Cole is a savage and the hardest street skater of all times.
This part kills it straight from the first second, perfect montage and soundtrack on tricks and imo Cole is at his peak here with best style in his career
Kicking the board like that up Wallenberg at the start is nuts. I remember kicking a board like that in anger copying him and i couldn't skate for two weeks 😂
Lmaoo, not even joking back around 2005 I did the same thing cause I wanted to copy what Chris did in the beginning of his part and my board barely went any distance and my toes were soo sore and I couldn't do any tricks for a few days
One of the greatest parts of all time and I mean of all time in skateboarding….in my mind. Ps and that intro man! Epic! Kicking a skateboard that far, that even possible apparently it is for Chris Cole.
2024... still one of (if not the) greatest parts ever dropped.
So good still in 2024
Still my idol
Why are old video parts like this so much better than anything that comes out nowadays? I can't explain it, they're just so fucking awesome.
Part of it is the music selection. People had great taste in music and much more variety of tastes back then nowadays everybody listens to that mumble rap stuff. Having the right music can make for break a video part.

They did it first that's why. Idk skateboarding hasn't progressed much imo. The shock value is gone.
He is just a special skater. Full focus and commitment to the board while riding.
Even In 2018 with all the groundbreaking video parts, this is still somehow better
This is and forever will be crazy part
Like what, Nyjah doing some kind of nollie flip to fs lipslide? I mean that’s all you ever see him do and everyone talks about how groundbreaking his runs are.
Has heart not just fuckin handrail .....watch some of nyjah only bangers but not much heart dont know if its editing or what but not the same...
Honestly
one hunnid mutha fucking percent
The skating the music the presentation… one of the greatest skate parts of all time 🔥
A drrr it's Chris Cole . Name one person that skates like him .
Music sucks. Like all Chris Cole parts
This part was so insane when it came out. Bs 270 to noseblunt a handrail in 2005 was amazing, not to mention all of the other things.
Like it isnt crazy now
People barely doing it nowadays. He was ahead of his time
Still crazy. Contest trick right there
Parhaimpii parttei mitä on olemas.
New Blood introduced me to a lot of good music.
me too but before also Dying to live
Thank hod he had those bulky early 00s Circas on when he punted that board because he would have broken every bone in his foot doing that in any pair of today’s shoes
wait, so he is not wear fallen on that day?
Dude Chris Cole is a strong dude, pretty sure he could of dude that bare footed
Did lol my keyboard is so used to spelling out dude
Cole's a big guy, saw him twice during demos back in the day, pretty sure he could do that with slippers on
Shit i still have the Kenny Anderson's in good enough condition to skate but they don't make them any more they would work still for this type of beating

funny you said that, once i saw that clip i tried it myself aswell and like you said cole kicks it really far lol
Me sorprende que sigue gente hasta hoy viéndolo, uno de los mejores videos de skate que hay
Palabras ciertas el Cris cole es un teso amigo severa canción no sabe cómo se llama?
This part is timeless
His trick selection is still super relevant today...this might’ve been peak Chris Cole!!
Cant forget about that fallen video part that may even have more difficult tricks than this. The main difference is this was the end of the VX era and Ride the Sky was the very beginning of HD
Ride the sky might take it but this part was unreal back then and still holds up today 👏🏼
This is the grade A tier of selecting the perfect song to correspond with the skate part. Chris Cole hits so hard and the song marries his skating/movements so well, it elevates the footage in my opinion to another level. Genius song selection.
This whole movie had a spot on song for each skate. Tony cervantes to minor threat imo was the peak of new blood
agreed
We used to watch new blood every fuckin day before we went out skating all day all over the city.
I dont like the music on ANY Cole parts. His tastes are garbage
I remember being in highschool so stoked on this... still am
The way he kicks the skateboard in the opening scene is a NBD, even to this day. Give Chris the credit he deserves for that one!
2024 and this part is still one of the gnarliest, all these years watching it and never realize how crazy was that kick in the board on the beginning of the part, if I do that my shin would be in pain for a week
my favorite part ever
+franscisco jr Shane Goes
I fucking love this. Classic Chris Cole. I remember seeing this when I was 19 and skating hard. This inspired me. Just like it is now. Always picks great music too.
No roll in at Wallenburg back then kids, that tre flip is as gnarly as they come.
took more than 40 tries! So gnarly.
Lol he did actually have a roll-in
that's what was thought pre nineclub interview. but he did have the roll in as others said.
@@bassmetalheadbang 68 tries actually
Chris L the guys a fucking warrior
Sometimes i grab a couple fingers of whiskey and just come back and enjoy this absolute classic. 🔥
My jaw still drops in 2023 with all due respect to the current generation that is taking it to a whole another level.

The beat of the song Is the key ✨
It’s 2020 and this is still the best skate video ever!
God i wish i lived during this era. I would've been the happiest person on earth 100%
Never too late to start skating
I'll never forget the first time I saw the backside 360 kickflip down that four block. Before I saw this part I didn't think that trick could look clean or could be done down anything big. I remember rewinding 10+ times in disbelief, like my brain didn't want to accept what I was seeing was real.
He has the best 360 kf in the game. Hands down.
Forever will be my favorite part of all time!! This video introduced me to Joan Jett 😂 and that switch tre at 02:29 is incredible

God I watched this religiously as a kid. Bought the dvd from a local skate shop. That tre flip at the end will never not impress me.
This part is nothing short of iconic.
Chris Cole is the man! Some great Sydney spots especially the Railway Square stairs at 0:53 which look even steeper in person. This is a classic and a trip down memory lane!
one of my favorite parts for sure
Chris Cole & Jamie Thomas are my 2 all time fav skaters . SKATEBOARDING IS NOT A CRIME
So good it makes me emotional
Chris Cole and Rodney Mullen are my two skating G.O.A.T.S.
It’s hard for me to see him in SLS and he knows that he is older and has a family and he can’t hard as this video. But he will always be the goat to me. Chris Cole is a savage and the hardest street skater of all times.
I absolutely love this part so much

Appreciating this talent in 2022 is key
This part kills it straight from the first second, perfect montage and soundtrack on tricks and imo Cole is at his peak here with best style in his career

Literally every single trick in this part would be included in any video segment today.
Chris Cole is an artist with that piece of wood.
Ugh so damn good,
Que brutal, un clásico, mucho poder 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nothing beats chris cole

awesome
forreal, he has the most underrated switch front heel. it was insanely long ago too
2020 he is back!
Cole, hit me up. Got a great gap in Bensalem. I did it on a bike in like 2000. Its over a fence into a driveway.
2:55 How does he glide through the air on this, holy shit.
That was fucked
On the switch 180 heel?
I love this part
