Love thick locs and the "messy" look is very bohemian and gorgeous. Mine are the same way and I love it. It's thick, healthy and lovely.

I love this vibe as well… that’s how mine are shaping up… initially I
(first 4 months) I manipulated them often because 3bc curly hair, contrary to popular belief, crawls out of the coil if you breathe on it🤦🏾…

Thick locs, means healthy hair. I hate when other people tell me to clean up my hair. I promote the Afro for more support, leaving less stress on my scalp. I stopped using products, I just wash my hair with coconut oil and use Indian hemp, sometimes. Peace, power!

I am almost 3 months in and everything you said in this video I have been doing. I love the unkempt look, the frizz, the thickness my hair gives without retwisting. I never wanted “neat” locs I’m embracing what my hair does naturally. I guess you can say I’m semi freeform. But I absolutely loooooove it! There’s no “ugly stage” for me it’s all beautiful 💜✨

Loved the water spraying tip for moisture. I thought that I was the only one who didn't like wearing my dreads styled, lol. Been locked for 27 years and have worn them just straight down, ALWAYS. They had reached past my waist, but at some point and I realized that the weight was thinning my roots and it didn't help that thinning hair as you age runs in my mom's side of the family, so now I keep them cut and just brushing my shoulders. Thanks!

You made some good points.. Especially about using natural or less products on the locs. I've had locs for 16 years now. I am 5.2 and my hair is over 4 feet long. And I manage my locs myself. I never like the freeze bc I like for my hair to look very neat. So yes I did the wrap around/ coil the remaining strands and it does create some bumps on some strands. But eventually I think that I'll trim for remanagement and much thicker locs.

Love your videos and your hair! I do get retwists every 2-3 weeks, and mine are still very similar to your (style/thickness). But then (like you mentioned), he only twists the roots and barely touch the bottoms. I really think it depends on your hair and your stylist. I know some people don't like retwisting regularly. But for my first year it's worked out well and hair is growing like a weed. I'll be moving to 3 week intervals once I move out of this job search phase.

Your last sentence, I feel you… especially if you have 3cb hair, it can look crazy disheveled in the early lock stages😂

Your locks are beautiful 😊 I'm 6 months in and I've retwisted 3 times and I notice the dents. Will they ever go away? Thanks for the tip about not wrapping the loose hairs bc apparently that's what's also causing my dents, happy I saw this video. Also how do I retwist without it un-twisting right away? My locs are still short(started them with two strand twist grown out from a TWA) but I'm just about completely loc'd (beginning stage, long way to go before they mature ☺). What do you use to wash your locs? Currently I use Dr bronners peppermint soap and have sprayed with ACV to remove build up (from dirt/dust sticking to oil/hair) toward the top of the Loc. I only use rosewater spray and rotate between natural oils like coconut, sweet almond, avacado, Jamaican black castor oil... All pure, one ingredient no additives. I agree with the no product tip. I don't want to use any "products" in my locs either, I'm afraid of build up lol.

It's really amazing to me how similar our journey's are. I started in December of 2015, I used to spray my locs with water every day though ever since I started this rinse I don't have to do it as often. I semi-form and have thought about just never getting a retwist again. Oh I'm a vegetarian too! My spirit is guiding me towards veganism though. We're loc twins Angel. I'm just saying 😌

Purified or distilled water is literally all you need and a good oil .. I actually put 3 drops of peppermint oil in my purified water and it has done wonders! I’m 10 days in and I’m excited! My hair has grown in 10 days!! frizz is our friend !!!!
