    1. Do thorough research on proper loc care so, you are not naive when incorrect information is given to you.
    2. Avoid Buildup!
    3. Be Careful and Cautious with Color!
    4. Wait on hair accessories and styling (including bobby pins) Allow your hair to breathe and just be!
    5. Have a healthy diet and stay hydrated!
    6. Don't retwist too often! Wait at least 4 weeks!
    7. Cover your hair with Satin and Silk! At night and under hats, wraps, scarves, turbans, etc.
    8. Don't Fight the process, trust it!
    9. Don't compare your journey to another's!
    10. I guess I wasn't paying attention..... I missed something.

    Excellent tips!
    I think not comparing one journey to another happens when one starts to really love their own locs and discover their hair's own uniqueness. at least..that is what I have experienced. Even when i first saw your videos, I remember I was like, I can't wait for my hair to thicken up like that. but my hair is soo different from yours and a couple months later, i have discovered beauty in my own hair type(s) loc sizing, locking pace, and so on.
    Thanks for sharing and encouraging!

I've literally watched all of your videos 🙈 I've made the decision to lock my hair but I'm trying to decide if I want to do it now (my hair is right at my shoulder when stretched) or wait a couple months for a lil more length..i'd love to have your length but I'm sure it was way longer than mine 😩

      Under video manager, edit your video. See the headings, Basic Info.... Annotations... Cards. A card is adding a video/videos/playlist to your current video, so others can click on. Search "TH-cam Cards" for better instructions, lol. I hope this makes sense.

    • @rodneycolejr.4989
      @rodneycolejr.4989 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i use the jamaican lime products. i started with the wax but for my hair i needed more hold at the root. so 2 months later i switched to the gel that they make and it work great for holding and retwisting roots. my friend who freeformed used the creme wax. the oil that they have works well too. i do a rinse and retwist once a month. when i started i did a retwist every 3 weeks.

    my main lock coach just told me to twist them all together and keep them laid down with a rag so that I don't keep playing in them that way they will be strong when they get longer

    • @NaturalNirvana
      @NaturalNirvana  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tre Benjamin Each person has a different way of doing things, but I don't recommend doing that. It's very restrictive for your locs. I would suggest allowing your locs to be loose, and doing as little manipulation as possible (I.e not a lot of styling). The natural budding process will occur and your locs will be stronger without the constant manipulation.

    • @trebenjamin
      @trebenjamin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Natural Nirvana I feel you on letting them be loose I am not able to cover them at work so I have to find someway to cope with the baby dread phase I'll let you know I'm doing mad research on the web and with dread heads around

    • @rodneycolejr.4989
      @rodneycolejr.4989 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you do this method i recommend having it for 2 months and then use the crochet method to combine the strands. i started with single twists and crotched after 3 months, but the crotche was the most helpfull thing.

    Can I have your opinion? If so do you think its good to start my locs with the afro kinky two twist because i have short have like little abouve shoulder length i dont like the short look.

    • @NaturalNirvana
      @NaturalNirvana  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shawny! Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea to start locs with any type of added hair. If you really don't want to start your journey with shorter locs, I would suggest you wait until your hair grows out more. But be mindful that when you have locs, your hair will shrink because it's natural hair. Best of luck on your journey hun!:)

    Baby girl got a retwist 😀😄 .... Hell yea way too long I'm ready to get my retwist so bad 😂😂 I tie my hair with a durag but I put it in a ponytail when I do so am I not supposed to do that?? since the ends be all over the place lo

    • @NaturalNirvana
      @NaturalNirvana  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! I know you hair is longer in length, but instead of putting it in a ponytail at this point (because they are starter locs) maybe you can try getting a loc sock, or a long enough satin hair scarf that will cover your locs and keep them in place. In my turban tutorial video I showed the scarf that I use to tie my hair down. Maybe something similar to that may work for you:)

    • @prettyballer9262
      @prettyballer9262 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Natural Nirvana lol yea I had a scarf like that but it was extremely short. . but if I do decide to get it I would jst have to learn to wrap it around my head.. it may seem simple to some but feel like a maze to others lol

    • @rodneycolejr.4989
      @rodneycolejr.4989 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i sleep on mine but the retwist stays longer if the're wrapped up. so i usually wait a week or 2 after a retwist before i sleep on them without wrapping them. the occasional nap or slumber without shouldnt be too bad.

      This is a great but complicated question. I think it depends on your hair type, how you want your hair to look and loc until they mature. I recommend watching loc videos that determine the benefits of comb coils versus two strand twists. There are quite a few out there. There is a girl (whose name i cant remember) who actually did an experiment where she did a two strand twist on one side of her head and a comb coil on the other, and compared it across several months.
      if you did such an experiment on you hair, that may be the most helpful in showing you what to expect.
      Personally, my coarse hair was started with coils, but I there were 3 locs with a looser curl pattern and I ended up redoing them with two strand twists braided on the ends. those locked faster but 3 months later you can still kinda see the twist pattern.
      Hope this helped

      I agree M! The video that I will be doing is not going to be telling anyone what method is best, because it's personal and unique to each person and their hair type. I will more so be addressing the different ways one can start, why I started mine the way I did, the pros and cons, and encouraging others to do what works for their hair:)

    Would I get build up if I just use water and oil mixed together everyday?

    Is “eco style olive oil “ bad ? 🤔

      Ali WayTV wouldn't recommend it. When I was a loose natural, the olive oil eco style gel caused a lot of flaking. It'll cause buildup and it's not easy to wash out. Use more natural products like flax seed oil eco style gel (never use wax!) or MAYBE argon oil gel (it depends).

    i dated this girl wheni first twisted my hair. she was known around school for twisting and retwisting peoples hair. when i first started i did research but was curious about her experience. she complained about clients having dirty hair and using the wrong products. so i asked what do you use for retwisting and to my dismay she said the black gel that i lay my hair down with. this was the weirdest thing ever because she didnt see anything wrong with it. later, i found out she never actually knew/learned about dreads. so she was going around promoting her skills, when she actually had less knowledge then i. i feel sorry for those 12 people who where her clients. i started and maintained my own locs for 4 months from watching youtube and reading about product, most dread stylist i run into ask me who did them because they look healthy.now ive wisted 2 of my friends.

      Nisha M I was using Jamaican mango and lime gel with tea tree oil. Now I use aloe Vera hair gel and a mix of coconut and tea tree oil. This is because I like how the mango lime works and look but it seemed like it was making my head itch. It could have been that I didn't oil my scalp much. But you should acv rinse your hair after 2 retwists to prevent build up. I usually retwist every 5 weeks and I'll twist, acv with twist, twist, acv twist. That's worked well for me

      Christopher Lewis With all due respect, you don't have to watch 😊. There are hundreds of others who have been helped with the information provided. It's ok if it's not your cup of tea though 😊.
