I still wash every two weeks. Water helps with the locing process. It encourages tangles. I started my third set of locs myself with two strand twists. I love that better because I am not waiting on others. Plus booking a loctitian is murder lol.

I’ve been loc’d just a little over a year and what I’ve learned that works best for me is washing and retwisting every 2 weeks!! I initially started my journey washing and retwisting once a month but my locs were styled. When I started wearing my locs unstyled, my hair matured better washing and retwisting every 2 weeks. This trained my locs to form faster and it’s made my locs look and stay neater until the next wash and retwist!!

I just started my loc journey. I got the comb coil method and im almost 4 weeks and I am going through the same thing that you experienced with your first set of locs, my head was itching alot after 2 weeks so i washed it, it unraveled and im just now retwisting then myself and honestly washing it felt amazing. No regrets. I love your videos by the way. You gave me that extra push to loc my hair and start this free loving journey, I learned alot from you so thank you 💛 and your hair and locs are beautiful ✨

I was impressed by how little my two strand twists unravelled when i washed after 2 weeks. Hair basically looked the same after, but a tad shorter since I did not put a bunch of stuff in my hair nor went under the dryer like the loctician I went to had me do. But, my twists do reach a bit below my jawline. I've heard you have to be a lot more careful about how you wash when yours are short. I just have itchy dry scalp, and even before I found it was a bad idea to wait far too long in between washes since I end up with an insane amount of flaked skin that's hard to wash out at once.

I agree with creating scalp issues.
When I started my first set my stylist told me to wait 3 months before washing. I stuck in a good two months before washing it & my hair got so itchy 😩. There’s this particular spot that itches me up till this day when I need to wash my hair 🤦🏾‍♀️. I’ve never had this issue before. I later realized water is essential to locking and making sure it’s healthy👏🏾

So my scalp has issues & I washed my hair after 2wks, then again 2day .. I went against what I know is that putting oil even if it’s a hot oil treatment triggers my scalp to be flaky & itching.. Tomorrow I’ll be 3wks into my journey.. I’ll wait to wash again for my 1st re-twist which will be at my 5wk mark.. the fact that I have comb coils & they didn’t unravel!! So embracing the frizz & puffiness 💞

I waited 4 weeks to wash and then I colored my grey roots with henna. This was my routine as a loose natural and my 2 strand twist starter locs stayed together pretty well. I had to retwist 2 locs only. I also interlocked each loc after that first wash. It’s taken 7 weeks but I am now embracing the frizz. I wet my hair in the shower most days or i spray my scalp with water. I’m going to stop re twisting between interlocking sessions thanks to your advice.

I know people who have had locs before or still currently have them and one of those people told me they didn't wash their locs 4 the first time until MONTHS after they were installed. Good thing I didn't ask for his advice cause I washed my hair 2 weeks after I installed my 2 strand twists. They began to itch which is why I washed but then i started using a tea tree and peppermint oil on my scalp and the dryness went away. I washed every 2 weeks in the beginning. I realized I don't usually need that many times. Now I think I should just wash when my hair tells me to. I moved to once a month maybe at 3 months. I'm 4 months in now so im still learning. I think every 3 weeks would work best but im off every other weekend so its either ever 2 weeks or every 4 weeks I am available to wash. I have 1 week day off every week but I usually cook on that day and do laundry and whatever else comes up so I may or may not be able to. Like I said I'll just wash whenever my hair tells me it needs washing

It's doing a tad better now after a month and 3 washes later, hoping it gets better because the amount of itching still isn't ideal.

@@charrissehorton3468 Oh it got bad. I had terrible dandruff back in March. I used Selsun Blue and it helped, and I just recently went to the doctor and they thought I might have a bacterial infection from not drying my hair thoroughly, so they prescribed me ketoconazole shampoo. Not sure if I'm satisfied it's fixing the issue, so I hope the next time I check in they take some samples of my scalp to test. I really rather be rid of whatever this is, because whatever caused the itching I now know was from long term not drying my hair thoroughly and wearing hats while my hair was damp long before I had locs.
