Brilliant fix thanks. I have been recording inside a car on a race track. Nearly gave up on the camera because the sound was so distorted as soon as the exhaust was loud. Removed the membrane and it's as clear as a bell. I got a DIYFIX phone kit from China for a few bucks which helped get the case off and has the right sized screw driver.
Did you have digital sounding pops? Took mine out for a drive the other day and as soon as I start the engine it's full of them. But only in car. Outside with the camera at the exhaust it clips but has no weird digital sounds.
Ur the greatest.. I got Xiaomi Yi but focus was rly bad.. like it's recording in 480p .. and your second and third fix rly helped me.. Ur the best bro.. Ty GOD BLESS YOU !
You're a life saver, man. I had the clicking sound issue before this and i couldn't for once think it was the wifi. I thought i just got a unit with a faulty microphone. Now i know what the problem is. Thanks man!
Thank you so much for this video. I did all your fixes and it works so much better now. The corrected picture is amazing. You turned my camera from a $80 dollar throw away dud to a top of the line GoPro beater. I believe the manufacturer sets the lens for closer up selfies on a stick and not for far away object viewing. I got the US version and it had the microphone and lens focus issues but I did all your fixes anyways. The microphone and front cover contact point tape fixes were easy, the lens not so much as they put a large amount of hot glue around the lens. However after picking and prying at it with an X-Acto knife for awhile and being a little rougher than when I started out I was able to break the lens free. I kept picking and prying and gave the lens some firm back and forth turns in between the picking. Chunks of glue will come off. Some glue might not come off but the lens will still rotate. The features on the Yi camera are amazing - you can set a switch is WIFI to get rid of fish eye distortion for normal viewing. You can also set a switch to choose which LED light indicators you want. I chose to get rid of the flashing circle recording light on the front of the camera but still have the top and back lights active. It is very customizable. If Xiaomi would design it in a way that lets the user adjust the focus and use foam for the microphone cover instead of tape they would not be able to keep up with the demand. Thank you again.
Thanks! Bought a Xiaomi Yi to experiment with and wire up an external 3.5mm mic port. The quality of this vid made my suspicions go away and now I know it can be done. Can't wait for it to arrive!
Dude u saved me! I almost sent back my cam because of the cracking sound. In my case i needed 3 layers of duct tape but finally the cracking sound is history. Thx mate
Good evening. Just purchased a Xiaomi Yi and it has the out of focus problem. The darn Chinese assembly person used cold glue around the entire lens assembly! Won't melt and would take 3 years with an exacto knife. Why are they using so much glue now? A small drop is enough, and that would be easy for me to remove. Now I'm stuck with a camera that's out of focus. Comments appreciated. Rick
Thank you! I was honestly scared to take mine apart. This took about 5 mins to do and it was super easy. The sound is way better now. The only problem is the WiFi noise is still there on mine but its a lot quieter now after putting electrical tape over that spot. The electrical tape is really thin so l'm hoping putting another layer of tape would help out even more. (only does it when wifi is on)
Ok, I just went through this fix. It's very easy. As he says, keep close care on removing the front plastic cover. I used a razor blade - careful not to cut yourself. Once you work one of the edges off it can come up with help of some good sharp fingernails. Getting the mic out was bit tricky. Personally I would not pull it out with the wires as he did; if the wires loosen you better be real good at soldering small parts - just my 2 cents. Still the mic is not fastened tightly so it comes out fairly easily. I had a bit of a problem fastening the electronic housing back in the case; it just took a small amount of force. I'll test it out. I think a lot of the cracking; choppy sound comes from the wifi so I'm going to turn that off when recording.
I have just ordered my camera ! I really hope I don't have these problems ! And even if I have thanks to you bro ! After i got freezing issues on my new hero 4 black ! This yi cam is only my hope now ! Hoping for best now !
Thanks for the fix - returned one for the wifi interference prob, second unit had same issue so I just opened it up and added the tape and all good now! Not planning on drone usage so wifi distance from phone not an issue...
I botched it good. Finally got around to opening up my Xiaomi Yi to improve the focus, Yes, it came not focused well. While I had it opened, I figured I'd go ahead and remove the tape from the microphone. Removed the cover... with some difficulty. Examined the lens with its dab of glue. But then I removed the four tiny screws, and lifted out the hardware to get at the microphone. Removed the tape from the mic. THEN I spent over half an hour - seemed like forever - trying to put the hardware back. The microphone wanted to play, and I had a terrible time getting it to stay (I ended up taping the bugger in its slot) while I fussed with the thin button switch (the one on top of the camera - the one to toggle between photo and video). This was MUCH harder than anything else. THEN I made the stupid mistake of shoving the guts all back in (here comes the really stupid part) and pushed the front cover back on to the guts/hardware. Wanna know why it was really stupid? I failed to screw back the four tiny screws. These little screws hold the guts to the back cover. So I removed the front cover again, but discovered that I could no longer separate the front cover from the hardware. The front cover is now apparently permanently stuck to the guts, so I'll not be able to see the backside of the lens. I tried carefully, and then not so carefully, to separate the front cover again, but it's Very Tightly Stuck to the Hardware Guts. It won't let go. By now, I'd worn out the case by opening and closing so many times, that I ended up rubber banding the case closes. (elastic banding for the Europeans). The camera kinda still works, but it's out of focus. Not sure what I'll do. I never got it installed in my car, and that's what I bought it for. If I knew how to remove the front cover from the hardware, I'd try again to fix the focus. I'm pooped at the moment. Figured I'd let the others know what NOT to do.
+CarTopX I second that. I have done this fix on two Yis. On the first one I nicked the cable to the wifi when removing the glue...luckily it just affected the blue led and not the wifi itself. I have done the focus fix both by the trial and error (iterative recording and small rotation) and by hooking a micro hdmi cable and doing a live focus adjustment. The live adjustment worked much better for me. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for this vid! I performed the microphone mod and wifi tape trick, but the audio is still crap on my Xiaomi cam after the mod. Gonna see if I can get the whole camera replaced.
CarTopX When we have the mic out, can we just cut the wires and replace it with a better mic? And if so, is there any specific oms or watts (not sure what I am saying, but I think you get it) that the new mic has to be?
I have a YI Dash camera and the same helicopter sound, can you tell me what did you actually tape there? Mine looks a little bit different from the inside. Was it wifi antenna?
Interesting fix. It's really a shame they don't have this sorted out during the manufacturing process. The picture is good on this camera but I was wondering why the sound was so bad. I guess that's why I only paid 50 dollars for my Yi camera.
Hi. Do you know where beeper/speaker/buzzer is located on Xiaomi Yi? Mine stopped working after few crashes so now I don't have beeping sound anymore. I would like to repair it, but I don't know where is it. It helps while searching for the camera, when camera falls off the miniquad... Thanks in advance...
I bought this camera for motorbike riding, but the sound get saturated very fast (above 50km/h) and the waterproof case doesn't help... Does your mic trick could help with this? (The cam is positioned on the fuel tank (gsxr), so there's not much wind going through)
Thx for the great video. I'm facing a problem with my wifi connection. The WIFI led is not blinking and my phone could not detect my xiaoyi. Can you please help me?
hi , do we need to do any setting when plug the hdmi to Laptop or TV , when i conect Yi to LAp or TV , it has nothing , no liveview , do u know why ? , thanks a lot
hi. just made a video last night and dissassembled my yi cam and is no sticker on my mic. i will upload it and share the link. 2nd thing i dont know what is the problem with the focus. my video what i record sharp like hell...
I have a similar cracking noise like "wifi problem", but when Wifi is off, and the camera is in waterproof case. Does anybody has an idea about this problem, cant find a solution?

+Michał Wilk There is no "outside lens glass" on this camera, if it's broken you need a new lens. Banggood sells those, but I wouldn't bet on it being an original Xiaomi part. www.banggood.com/Replacement-Camera-Lens-150-Degree-Wide-angle-Lens-For-Xiaomi-yi-Action-Camera-p-983459.html
well the tape in microphone i think to make it save from water splash on it, just be more careful if you take off the tape, don't use it near water without waterproof case
Bottom right screw had a sticker on it. Probably voids the warranty I'll never use by piercing a hole in it ;) Thanks, sticker removal worked like a charm.
+PrincessKahara Is the audio crisp and clear now? Anywhere as good as a GoPro? I want this camera, but a little worried about the audio. Please respond. ~ Kevin
PrincessKahara Thanks! Ya know, if you cut off a little bit of the foam covering from a dollar store earbud, and put it where the tape was covering the mic, it may just cut down the wind noise a bit. In fact, it should, as it would be a tiny windscreen.
Thank you! Very good solutions. However, the wifi signal will become weaker when transferring files between devices (From 1.2MB to 400-600KB transfer speed). Anyone found a better tape to improve the signal?
Dude can you help me? I recorded some video when I was holiday. But now when I am going to watch it on my laptop it won't show. Even it has a capacity of 1.85 Gb but I can not play in in any video player. :( Please help me that's so important
So I was recording today... footage was really not something much... I'm worried... is there anything like "fake" Xiaomis out there? I don't know when It was bought, I got it just one week ago. i.imgur.com/BvLPRjx.jpg Thank you for answer
lol you should NOT peel the electret capsule's protector like that. Dirt may, and will, enter to the capsule if you remove it, breaking the microphone. At least replace it with a thin layer of sponge.
huh. mine has none of these problems. the only problem is the waterproof case is really, really noisy when shaking. my gopro has that too, and i suppose a bit of folded paper to tighten things up inside would do the trick. this camera is so freaking much better than my gopro2 it's not even a funny. too bad the battery life is appalling at best.it lasts like 15 minutes with wifi streaming on

thx man, now my xiaomi yi sound better than before. Big thx for u.
Dude u saved me! I almost sent back my cam because of the cracking sound. In my case i needed 3 layers of duct tape but finally the cracking sound is history. Thx mate
thanks sir
Thank you! I used your video and my Xiaomi Yi is alright now! Stupid WiFi noise is gone! Haleluja! :D And MC is just perfect !
Thanks for the help! I was so sad when I found out about the buzzing noise. thanks man thanks a lot! Saved me from my misery!
Thanks a lot. Perfekt DIY Video. I was fixing all Camera Problems with the Xiaomi YI Z23L now. The Xiaomi run's fantastic now !!!

+barbershop22 Take it easy. The Xiaomi Yi is a great Product. Spend a little of Time to fix these little Issues. Repair it and Relaxe Dude ;-)

it fixed my camera thank you for the video. how this got 14 thumbs down is baffling! well done!!!
Wow just ship me the pieces Xiaomi i'll assemble the damn thing myself!
Edge Bauer lol
Whether this methods will void the warranty ? For example, when you remove the tape on microphone

CarTopX but not perfect. This shows the quality control is really bad.
Thanks for the fix - returned one for the wifi interference prob, second unit had same issue so I just opened it up and added the tape and all good now! Not planning on drone usage so wifi distance from phone not an issue...

How did you connect the yi camera to what appears to be a computer or display?
Does any kind of tape work for the WiFi solution or does it have to be that blue tape specifically?
thanks a lot for this video! fixed my wifi sound issue in like 2 minutes! :D
***** what tape did you use?
Allan Monterola i used normal scotch tape, with paper tape for good measure.
What tape you use to handle the cracking sound?
Thanks for this video, i hope i don't need to do it when i receive mine tommorrow, just in case, what glue did you use ?
Ok thanks, i have some glue for plastic, will see tommorrow if i need to do it :p
Warranty voided?
but what is it that you cover up for the wifi sound problem? isn't it something essential?
What glue will you recommend to used to hold the lens?
Does the tape have any side effects on the wi-fi power or range?
Any stats on what the range is? If its not that severe i might open my cam just to fix this.
hi there, what type of glue have you used during the out of focus lens fix?
thanks in advance, very informative video, g.job!
Thanks! Do you think I could use super glue? I have electric glue pistol but im worried I would accidentaly melt smthing.
Muy buen tutorial! si sigues todos los pasos con cuidado te deja la Xiamo Yi al 100% de condiciones. GRACIAS!
i didnt get the wifi part, what is the thing you put a tape in?,and why does it needs a tape?
CapTopX, what kind of glue, is it a special one? And what is the blue paper you used to fix the wifi sound problem?
Interesting mods! They really upgrade the camera!
What u use for the wifi sound prob? Normal tape?
CarTopX Thanks! hope mine xiaomi yi doesn't have all these problems.. great work~!
CarTopX what do you mean about the battery drain?
hi..cn i knw what type of glue u used to keep the lense from moving..and how do you remove the glue at the beginning..
What kind of paper you use in covering the wifi when clipping noise appears?
dont forget Luffy cause it keeps the mic in place :D ! nice vid thanks
hi sir
in case "fix bad sound if wifi on"
what do you wear to cover on a yellow plate? the blue thing
is that double sided foam tape? thanks before :)
Can you do another one for the battery drain possibly?
very useful video. thank you. I just ordered. I hope I fix these issues without damaging the camera. :)

Thanks for this vid! I performed the microphone mod and wifi tape trick, but the audio is still crap on my Xiaomi cam after the mod. Gonna see if I can get the whole camera replaced.
+CarTopX do you have sound sample after this fix?
Are these still common issues if i order it now?
CarTopX Oh ok, I ordered yesterday at Banggood.
***** Got mine a week ago, no such problem
Ye i got mine a week ago aswell
CarTopX When we have the mic out, can we just cut the wires and replace it with a better mic? And if so, is there any specific oms or watts (not sure what I am saying, but I think you get it) that the new mic has to be?
+CarTopX Thanks!
Hdir bos mantab infonya
I have a YI Dash camera and the same helicopter sound, can you tell me what did you actually tape there? Mine looks a little bit different from the inside. Was it wifi antenna?
the wifi fix does really work?
just tape the conector? and why the hell is there tape on the microphone and not soft mousse
+Regilio Bouma yup,did it 5 min ago and it worked!
and do you know something to synchro start like 4 or 6 xiaomi's. (360 degrees setup)
Thanks a lot!!
Is wifi working when we tape the antena. Is it any difference in range or sth?
I did it and longest distance is 3 meters
is that issues come with every xiaomi yi camera?
Ever had a digital popping/clapping/clipping noise at random intervals in moderate volume recordings?
Hi.
There is "lens rectification" option on the menu.
should it be on/off when adjusting the lens?
thanks
just got my new black yi action camrea hope the bugs are fixed by now
were these bugs fixed in the new black one??
sound ok but focus out a bit
Can you destroy any other camera if you try to do this focus modification?
THANK YOU!!!
Interesting fix. It's really a shame they don't have this sorted out during the manufacturing process. The picture is good on this camera but I was wondering why the sound was so bad. I guess that's why I only paid 50 dollars for my Yi camera.
This elped a lot mine had all three issues THANKS
CarTopX thanks you man
Which Hardware Version do you have?! Mine didn't have those issues - Sound is fine in Z23A ...
BangGood ...
can you do one for the battery drain please
+DRE CALLAHAN (80sBABYDRE) you manage to sort this issue yet? tried some info from volt daddy website but no joy.
thank you. it is work!
Does this work for the yi 4k+ as well? The crackling drive me crazy.
Thank. Work great now!!
Are there any option aside from connecting it to a television? We don't have a USB tv so what other options do I have? Please help. thanks
How to know if I'm having these problems?
Hi. İ did the same fix for noise but it still to noisy recording. Doesnt change anythink . Can you help me please?
I bought this camera for motorbike riding, but the sound get saturated very fast (above 50km/h) and the waterproof case doesn't help... Does your mic trick could help with this? (The cam is positioned on the fuel tank (gsxr), so there's not much wind going through)
Thx for the great video. I'm facing a problem with my wifi connection. The WIFI led is not blinking and my phone could not detect my xiaoyi. Can you please help me?
Thanx for tips! :)
what type of glue to keep the lens in place please?
+CarTopX pew pew
hi , do we need to do any setting when plug the hdmi to Laptop or TV , when i conect Yi to LAp or TV , it has nothing , no liveview , do u know why ? , thanks a lot

hi. just made a video last night and dissassembled my yi cam and is no sticker on my mic. i will upload it and share the link. 2nd thing i dont know what is the problem with the focus. my video what i record sharp like hell...
There are three points of glue
How many points of glue i must remove?
Thx
CarTopX thx but
I must remove all three points of glue or only one??
woah, very good and useful
I have a similar cracking noise like "wifi problem", but when Wifi is off, and the camera is in waterproof case. Does anybody has an idea about this problem, cant find a solution?
TKS!!!!!
Good evening. Just purchased a Xiaomi Yi and it has the out of focus problem. The darn Chinese assembly person used cold glue around the entire lens assembly. Won't melt and would take 3 years with an exacto knife. Why are they using so much glue now? A small drop is enough, and that would be easy for me to remove. Now I'm stuck with a camera that's out of focus. Comments appreciated. Rick
Where I can buy front camera cover for my xiaomi yi? My outside "lens" glass is cracked.
The hardest part for me is to crack open the front cover. Help.
Hot glue?
Bottom right screw had a sticker on it. Probably voids the warranty I'll never use by piercing a hole in it ;) Thanks, sticker removal worked like a charm.
+PrincessKahara Is the audio crisp and clear now? Anywhere as good as a GoPro? I want this camera, but a little worried about the audio. Please respond. ~ Kevin
I havent compared it to the go pro, but I can say poor wind performance. I'll get back if I can
PrincessKahara Thanks!
Please help me that's so important
Nothing here already try vlc media player?
Deni Fianda Yes I tried but no result. :( any other suggestion.
CarTopX oh really? nothing can do?
is your sd card damaged? there is some software that can fix damaged sd card.. try google it..
Nothing here I know that only class 10 sd cards work properly in the yi. I tried different cards before going for a 64gig class 10.
hi what glue do we need to use thanks!
So I was recording today... footage was really not something much... I'm worried... is there anything like "fake" Xiaomis out there? This footage was captured on 1080p 60fps... is this just problem with lens? On the left side is gopro hero3 on the right is Xiaomi. Nothing was fixed. Thank you for answer
The new Xiaomi Yi do not have these problems anymore... all has been fixed by the factory and works perfectly
+markart157 they must have watched this video since then, LMAO!!!!
+MusicMusicMusic Hehe but the camera has a pretty bad stabilizer I think
+MusicMusicMusic and night shots are pretty awful
+markart157 I ended up buying a video camera stabilizer
+MusicMusicMusic Hahahah same as me
i still can't solve my WiFi crackling issue.. i did what you did in this video, but still.. it's crackle
lol you should NOT peel the electret capsule's protector like that. Dirt may, and will, enter to the capsule if you remove it, breaking the microphone. At least replace it with a thin layer of sponge.
sound on my Yi camera is crap. Great camera but can hardly hear it. How can they sell stuff like this?
huh.
mine has none of these problems.
the only problem is the waterproof case is really, really noisy when shaking. my gopro has that too, and i suppose a bit of folded paper to tighten things up inside would do the trick.
this camera is so freaking much better than my gopro2 it's not even a funny.
too bad the battery life is appalling at best.it lasts like 15 minutes with wifi streaming on
Wifi sound fix? O_o - you have disconnect wifi antenna....
did not work for me ...
thanks the duct tape heal the buzz noise.. that very annoying sound has gone now..
wtf who the fuck put tape on a microphone xD thanks a lot !!!!
Bärtiger Baron i think the tape is to make the camera microphone save from water
dany danyz looool that could be true :OOO but i like better sound more then dyving. when its broken i could fix it with another mic xD
