Rob the sticking work outs you gave us have made incredible progress in my playing after a year of doing them consistently. I can now do things I never imagined I could ever do. I'm 10x the player I've ever been. You have no idea how far your content has brought me!!!
He said “Flamuel L. Jackson” folks. I’m just mad I didn’t come up with it first. 🤣🤣🤣 And yes. The mechanics is so important. SO IMPORTANT!!!!!! Thanks again Rob. Per ALWAYS!
I started my drumming journey a couple of months ago, and I have to say that M Brown is the most genuine individual and teacher I came across on TH-cam and by far my favorite of them all. He definitely made a huge difference in how I approach my kit and how I spend my time practicing. Huge thank you from a fan.
i learned this when i went to a music academy for both tripplets and straights, we started the group practice with this before getting into the actual lesson and there was a seriously noticable difference for everybody when comparing from when we started to when we graduated. this is an insanely helpfull lesson
Thanks for another great lesson! You are absolutely right that doing pad work away from the kit is really valuable. This makes for an efficient use of time, by working on technique when we would otherwise be sitting passively watching videos.
done this exercise for 4 10-minute sessions through today, and after I got on the kit my hands felt more relaxed than they usually used to be, even for rimshots on 2 and 4 which I play instantly. Thanks again Mr Brown for great lesson, I feel motivated to do this for several weeks and see what happens :)
Rob, as another Rob, I'm a 60 year old guy who has been drumming for a number of years on and off. I'm in a band and want to become more fluid and professional sounding. I'm going to take your advise and start with this exercise. Thanks!
You are an excellent teacher! I randomly stumbled upon your video and there is something about how you are both super passionate and also really laid back. Definitely subbing!
I like using Swiss triplets like this for a bar or two and shift the flam by using a single flam tap at the end to turn it over to the next accent in the triplet. Got to keep that foot going too.,
Great video ! exactly what I needed. My Moeller has me so screwed up. It’s weak when i get to higher tempos. It’s the rebound. I’m too reliant on it. but this help me fix what I already do instead of learning something totally new.
This is great as this complements other wrist exercises I'm doing these days. At first I tend to want to let the stick bounce in these triplets but I'm really working hard on letting my wrist do the work
Rob Brown! Thank you so much for the lessons and inspiration ! ! ! I am just getting started and have watched a ton of your videos. I love your energy and I love you. Keep rockin' and rollin' my friend ! ! !
Love your stuff! As I hobbyist (side hustle/basic cover band drummer,) so much of your teachings have helped me! One example is Toto “Hold The Line.” Many of your previous videos on developing better singles and doubles, gave me confidence to mimic those fills for that song! Of course I’m also trying to get 1/10th of what Jeff Porcaro is doing!😂😂
Similar to Stone’s Accents and Rebounds p.12-13. Was having a good laugh as I was doing the very same thing today as I’ve been for the past few weeks. YES! IT IS TRUE! There are two schools: Moeller and Gladstone. This is more Gladstone. NO IT IS NOT MOELLER! Great channel.
This is the most timely video! I’ve recently been having issues with my tennis elbow and overworking my wrist to compensate. Think as a beginner I need to go through your back catalogue of videos on proper technique.
I am just starting out on an e-kit and I do this for my own enjoyment - probably never will perform, but your vids are SO helpful! Really appreciate you. I just got a practice pad this weekend (because you said I had to) and it's great for those moments when I'm in a business meeting (remote - relax!) on mute while the big-wigs talk. Had to laugh when you suggested doing this during the sermon! My left hand is like a toddler learning to stand up compared to my right (it's barely learned to walk straight, mind you), but trying to accent the second (or third) beat of the triplet is CRAZY hard - plus I lose track of the count. But I'm working at it and your videos help tons. I WILL buy some 'merch' to support you. Keep it up.
Hey Rob I have been watching drum videos for a long time. You and Dom Famularo are my favorite videos to learn and get inspiration from. Did you ever meet Dom?
This exercise went from beginner to advanced right when you introduced the "stagger" concept of using both hands--one accent chasing the other a sixteenth note behind. Nice. Definitely going to give this a go--from the beginning. My man Flamuel. ;)
This is it!! I’m gonna get on my sticks and pad and put my boy Flamuel L. Jackson on the tube…lol I’ve been watching your channel for over a year now and I feel like I’ve come a long way, although I might have bad habits to work on cuz I went from strummer 🎸 to drummer 🥁 and went right into a band…😬 but I know for sure I have a long way to go. But this is it, this exercise right here! I’m gonna do this at least 30 minutes a day! 😊 not too mention all the other awesome lessons! Thank you so much! 😊
Hey rob, have a question for you and a concern for myself. I’ve been playing drums for about 15 years or so now. I play in a “successful” touring band and I am fairly adequate at playing. The problem is I don’t know what I’m doing and I KNOW I have bad technique from being self taught and basically learning to play by just playing if that makes sense. I’ve never fully learned rudiments. My question is where do I start or how do I start practicing at this level of drumming? I really want to have good technique to prevent injury and to just get better. I feel like I’m reaching a plateau. Thanks rob!
Hey beatdown! Not sure if you look at these but had a quick question. I'm just starting to learn new sticking's and was wondering the reason for sticking's. If I look at a R L L R sticking, can i infer that the left side of the drum I will do R L and on the right side of the kit I will do a L R? Prob a dumb question, but wanted to ask. Love your vids man!
Any new sticking will serve you several ways. As a repetitive exercise to develop a particular mechanic, a pad warmup, or way to expand your vocabulary by distributing the sticking around the kit for new fills, grooves or phrasings.
Hey Mr Brown, love your channel, teachings, attitude, etc. So I'm going for my next Snare upgrade. So i'm going to spend between $200.00 and 450.00. I'm looking at Ludwig Supraphonic, or like a Tama Tama SLP Series G-Bubinga 14x6.5 Do you have any other suggestions? I play everything from Rock, soul, funk, fusion to Rock, soul, funk, fusion. No Country. Also, it's not Moeller because you're not bopping your elbows around. :-) that's closer to something Jim Chapin showed me. I happened to catch him on one of his teaching tours. Such a wealth of info that guy, may he r.i.p..
Rob the sticking work outs you gave us have made incredible progress in my playing after a year of doing them consistently. I can now do things I never imagined I could ever do. I'm 10x the player I've ever been. You have no idea how far your content has brought me!!!
Ditto dude
He said “Flamuel L. Jackson” folks.

Thanks again Rob. Per ALWAYS!
2 minutes of doing this...and I have instant results already 😮..you are awesome ❤
Did this for a day and I’m already getting back the feel I had in my left hand a decade ago.
Thanks, Rob!
This is a great lesson!
I’m in! Gonna do this for the next 4 weeks and see my results ! Thanks Rob for great stuff as usual .

Rob is great! Stephen Taylor is a really good instructor as well.

Fantastic exercise! It's fun to do, and I can't wait to see the results! Thank you for this.😊
Grazie.
This helped me so much thank you
Rob has the best delivery of all the drum guys on TH-cam

Thanks for this. Your lessons are very much appreciated!

Dude…. Looks like the exercise builds up the “ guns” too 💪🏻🥁
I like using Swiss triplets like this for a bar or two and shift the flam by using a single flam tap at the end to turn it over to the next accent in the triplet. Got to keep that foot going too.,
Now here is a lesson I could not WRIST-sist !!!
Boooo
Daaaaaaad
But for the love of... 😂
But for the love of... 😂
But for the love of... 😂
I will definitely be doing these. I have put off too long building my weak side (left) and this looks like a very good exercise for that. Thanks
Good for building the internal clock too.
I’m watching you and see Denzil, but i’m dutch😊 you’re clear and Nice to met. Thnx
Outstanding lesson. Thank you.
Cool a basic triplet grid with one hand.. definitely good for wrist control and transitions. I like gridding every rudiment I can. Cool Rob..
I'm no chump, this is brilliant Mr. Brown! I'll be buyin' the T shirt too, thank you.
Great video ! exactly what I needed. My Moeller has me so screwed up. It’s weak when i get to higher tempos. It’s the rebound. I’m too reliant on it. but this help me fix what I already do instead of learning something totally new.
Right on brotha

Thanks, Flamuel.
Syncopation book in background how cool is that !!
Great form Flamuel AS USUAL!! 👍
This channel is a gift
Thank you for your great contet. Videos like this and others from you helped me so much with my hand technique and my flow around the kit.
Love this. Making a big difference for sure.
Rob Brown! Thank you so much for the lessons and inspiration ! ! ! I am just getting started and have watched a ton of your videos. I love your energy and I love you. Keep rockin' and rollin' my friend ! ! !
Oddly enough I'm solid on traditional, but always had a weak wrist when doing matched grip... this one exercise is changing that!! Thanks!!!🎉
Great exercise,Ray Luzier used it on his tuition video.
Haven't played in a while but I used to do this exact thing intuitively.
Love your stuff! As I hobbyist (side hustle/basic cover band drummer,) so much of your teachings have helped me!

That's a kick ass song and incredibly difficult to play despite its seemingly simplistic groove.
@@dreamerrt216 For sure!
It‘s literally part two of the stone killer out of Joe Morellos Master Studies, page 58 😄 Awesome exersises!
Adding this to practice immediately
Listen to this man folks
Rob awesome lesson as always.... keep em coming brother!
I always return here for my drumming boot camp drills!

Thanks for that. I always had the feeling I am struggling with my wrist. Now I know. 👍 👍
I'll practice this on the congas, bongos and djembe

Nice work, rob
Hey Rob I have been watching drum videos for a long time. You and Dom Famularo are my favorite videos to learn and get inspiration from. Did you ever meet Dom?
Gosh, man. I WISH 😔 That dude was just a big ball of positivity. RIP Dom 🕊️
Great video Rob!
Cant wait to start using this. Thanks bro!

My man Flamuel. ;)
My best teacher on you tube🙏🏾🙂
This looks like Benny Grebs' Language of Drumming! So good!
I tried it and I already feel the burn in my forearms 🔥
This is it!! I’m gonna get on my sticks and pad and put my boy Flamuel L. Love it my man!
I'm on board, I look forward to the fruits.
Thanks Rob! As always another very useful lesson!
Awesome Thanks again🤘🏻🥁
Great video. Question, would doing the both hands at the same time adversely affect flam technique?
Holding the sticks farther back than usual? Got that early ‘90s Weckl look today. Thanks Flam’
Great exercise. I'd like to know what the metronome is on the iPad?
Thank you, I’ll try it.
Hello, great video, somebody knows that metronome? I would like to try it out. Thanks.
Great exercise for those kill rim shots followed by some ghosts! Great vid Rob...Err, Flamuel!
Great drumming content as always thanks. What model of drumstick are you using here please?
Hi Rob!
I rarely see "grid work" in triplet form. (Thnx Rob)
Thanks Rob ~ love your work Flamuelle 🥁 God bless you mate. 🇦🇺 🎶
Uncanny that you said "that's just moeller" as I was saying it in my head...!
So simple yet so effective!
That's a very good lesson. Very helpful. Cheers, Rob! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁
Thankyou "Flamual"😎😎
Thank you. 🥁🥁🥁
great vid! please would you tell me whats the name of the app(metronome) on your ipad? thnxs indeed🤙

If you want to isolate the wrist, hold the stick in the center with all fingers wrapped around it.
This forces no bounce and demands wrist movement.
7:37 how naturally you switch back to traditional haha.
Excellent lesson Rob!… will definitely help the weak hand too…😎🥁
Hi, I just found your channel, and I am inspired. I'm not a drummer but I do have a set of drums. I also gave you a follow ❤
Hello
I try this one! =)
the cool thing is that with every single stroke exercise your doubles also get better
Hey Mr Brown, love your channel, teachings, attitude, etc. So I'm going for my next Snare upgrade. So i'm going to spend between $200.00 and 450.00. Did you alternate hands on that last one or play them together?
"...IT"S NOT!" lol Rob putting the 'beat' down
Nice timer system, how is this achieved?
I've.been doin this for a long time just doubling the strokes in a 16th triplet form square or swung. Applies for the feet too🤌
this is great, thank you
Love it
Great lesson. Will incorporate it in my practicing routine.
Which metronome app is that?
Greets from Hamburg, Germany!
Jay
It’s called ‘Click’ for iOS
Thanx!😊
What sticks are you using?
Thankyou Rob, all the best from 🇬🇧🥁👍
Greetings from Malaysia, what size is your drum stick?
Is there a reason for holding traditional so far back?
