My mom use to make something called a hoe cake made with flour baking powder and salt and milk. I believe it was a southern thing. You fry it with a little oil it was like a biscuit but fried. Mom said it was called a hoe cake because they use to cook it on a hoe (garden tool) lol
Hello Soulful T, I haven’t made these in yrs! Thanks 4 sharing . They look good!! ❤️Sending you & entire family all my love & prayers. WE HERE SUPPORTING YOU ALWAYS ! ❤️🙏🏽🇨🇦
My grandma called them cornbread patties and we ate them with fastback bacon and alga syrup. Love these. I had forgotten about them. Glad I saw this video. I'll be making me some with some turnips.
SoulfulT, your video of these "hoe cakes" brought back alot of memories for me. My late mother grew up eating this and she would make them for breakfast and sometimes, dinner. I haven't had them in years but yours looked delicious. Take care 💞
Looks lovely I know you say my kitchen my way, your kitchen your way. 😜 but if you buy that cornmeal self-rising you don't have to add that other stuff but sugar & your wet ingredients
Love this my mother always made hoe cakes growing up, and hot water cornbread made with cornmeal and boiling water. Thought they were two different things🤔
My momma was allergic to flour, so she always made hoe cakes as her bread. OMG, they were smothered in butter, there was nothing better. Thank you for making them, it brought back memories of my momma, God rest her soul❤❤❤❤
🥀And that's how we did it back in the day one neighbor had fish or chicken, one neighbor had something sweet we all pulled it together and called it a dinner you and your neighbors good times❤
Oh yes Ms T they look 🤤 my mama use to make hoe cakes with fish and used a lil of that fish grease to fry them in talking about good eating oh yes Ma’am!! And for a twist she’d throw some green scallions in the batter 😋 I know u don’t like onions but it was good,, miss my mama cooking she just sitting and chilling now I cook for her 😂😂😂 Have a wonderful day and keep good down home cooking 💕
Hey soulfult my sis looking good in that red love your hair your hoe cakes looks so delicious and fryed pretty wish I could try one looks good thanks for sharing you have a bless day
U can use the Pam olive oil with butter spray can, or the regular butter flavored Pam spray. When they done, put them on a plate and butter them with, churn style country crock butter! Omg! U will love it 😊!
It's crazy how people in different regions called things what they are not. Hoe cakes are not made with cornmeal. We who are raised cooking scratch know the difference between hot water cornbread and a hoe cake.
Super!
The name def caught my attention! 😂
Girl me too!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lol yeah they used to cook them over a fire on an actual hoe....aka the garden tool haha
For real 🤣

@Beyquisha B I meant hoe cakes
It taste like my late grandmother make those! My favorite childhood is back!!
I use to make these all the time with my grandma! We use to eat with syrup or honey, a lot the times with greens and eat it with our hands.,
Reminds me of hot water cornbread my mom used to make with black eyed peas. Delicious
Sounds good 👍
My grandpa did hot water hoe cakes with pinto beans.
The hot water makes the meal or flour expand so it don’t soak up all that grease! Best way 💯
They looks so good. Let me get one so I can dump it in some turnip green juice 😋
🎤🎤🎤🎤
Oh yessssssss!!!! best way drippin in some good ol' greens.

@ Wanda hello , yes u are 💯 correct ! The slaves would cook them that way . ❤️🙏🏽🇨🇦
These look so good! We always called these Johnny Cakes. Hoe cakes have no corn meal in them. Delicious just the same!
Bring back memories. Mother and father made these for us when we were young we used to call them corn flitters.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I truly appreciate you providing the measurements for the ingredients.😊
When I was a child and most people had a large family we made these for bread or with any meal to make sure the family was all full
