In one of your videos (How to teach English in Vietnam) you say that after three months in Vietnam, one can get the criminal background police check in Vietnam. How does that work? (It was my understanding that one needs a criminal background check from one's home country.)
It has been some time since i've gotten one done in Vietnam, but YES Vietnam did change the rule that you CAN do a back ground check in Vietnam if you have been here for at leat 3 months.
I have talked to som people that got it done the first month here with their work permit and this was a few weeks ago.
The problem with getting the background back home, and i am just talking as an American is 1, it takes Ages as the FBI level is required, 2 its in English, so you'll have to pay someone to translate it that is Vietnamese in VN that is certified to do so than take that to the embassy to get validated, and finally 3 YOU have to be in your home country to get it done MOST of the time.
If you are South African, UK, EU, or other western nations its even harder to get this done. I would say talk to your employer and have them just sign you up to get it done now.
Vietnam rarely cares about their own rules unless it takes money from them.
The background itself is pretty easy, just have addresses and what you were doing since the age of 15 and your good.
And a pro tip don't get detailed, or you'll be there all day. If they DO say no that is fine as well, companies have up to 3 months to HAVE your paper work for a work permit submitted, not approved just submitted.
If you are there on a tourist Visa they can convert it to a business Visa for you with no need to do a border run per DECREE 152, 2022.

If you mean the English exam for working yes
These test are offered by BBC and similar these are NOT Asian nation given test at all.
As a native i don't take them, if you are NOT native to English per your country you'll want to do this on your own money sure
Check online around sites you can find them rather cheap or even discounts

TEFL Universial? I have no idea about this. Is it a 120 HR rated certification. I looked at their site and it seems they offer a lot of stuff. I'd double check what certification you got, TEFLs are offered in 120 hours, 240 hours (200 something), than there is a standard none hour online TEFL that just shows you basics but is not accepted by governments in Asia for a work permit.
The one in my link for 15% off is the 120 hour that I have been using for almost 7 years and i know people that have taken it with me that use the same. Great thing it never expires.
But in all check yours first, your account you log into for that certification should tell you the hours learned.
