Smaller towns, you're going to want to have some money already saved or coming in because the pay is going to be very low or almost zero if your on a volunteer level. For Laos the capital is the best bet hands down

Anyway, about the dog meat...hahaha...Tôi là người ăn chay, tôi không ăn thịt but I do laugh when my fellow western folks get a little ill on the idea of consuming such a meat. Alot of what you said is true, the Vietnamese are not that welcoming imo, long term visas are not an option, you need to speak Vietnamese to speak to most of the locals as English is not widely spoken, dating as you said is very slow and Vietnamese women generally speaking are not that interested in foreigners, when it comes to food hygienie standards are terrible and Vietnamese cuisine gets boring very quick.

I guess that I feel less social because of how I’m typically eating at home but what I do is eat in a public space outside somewhere. Scrambled eggs in butter? Yes!👍

Thanks for sharing your insights on Vietnam and living overseas. I'm planning an exploratory trip there early next year. Have lived in China and S. Korea for a few years, and traveled a little around SE Asia. Can't wait to explore there, and see if it's a place I would like to keep traveling to and spending time in over the next few years. New sub here. Greetings from Alaska! 👍

Do you think the reason they stopped requiring English is because the government is trying to halt the westernization of Vietnam's culture, and trying to control the spread of "independent thinking"?

This COULD be part of it, this past year there has been a lot of VIetnamese abroad speaking out publicly and it has reached Vietnam's social media circles Free port i believe is the grand given to students was one that got gov. level attention. So removing English is a two fold of following China's recent move (As VN typically does) and also removing western influnces possibly without restricting the internet as it is in China or North Korea I will say though removal of English, the DEFENSE was "Students are to busy" I have been all over Asia, teaching in 9 different countries and also going to western school and 2 uni with 3 degrees Vietnam education is one of the laziest and less restrictive education systems globally..40% of the school year is spent playing games, break time, and sleeping (THis is not a joke, its a truth) While the other 60% is mostly copying the board and remember answers for the test they were already given I feel like you state English is being removed for another reason, AI, IT, micro processors, future jobs, automation ALL are English based...removing English limits Vietnamese from this world which is becoming the ONLY world we live in as people What are your thoughts? Am I crazy or we rolling on something here

@@EndlessTravels Yea its hard to say exactly what the reasoning is, but it would align with the general shift asia is taking away from the west, particularly China. I cant say its all bad considering all the negative cultural influences that have come from the west, and spread like wildfire since the advent of smaetphones/social media. Obviously, a political power like China/Vietnam have would seek to prevent that to maintain control. While that will certainly further slow their progress in developing, one must admit that the path of "progress" every other nation has followed is leading towards population collapse, and Vietnam is already hitting it as well.... So perhaps slowing down their progress would avoid some other problems as well. Just a thought.

Yeah....Imma be honest, i have to censor things in my videos because people i know watch my videos and comments i put i am not sure. I have good friends that have my best interst but some things being said can lead to some serious problems. With China though they removed English mostly as censorship of their people and control, and that has lead China down a dark road of isolation that is starting to show a MASSIVE problem, with Apple, Intel, Microsoft, Nike, and most clothing companies leaving this past 3 months and now local Chinese firms crashing its not good. With VIetnam though i cannot speak much on "Why", i am fully aware WHY and as you said political reasoning this is why i cannot fully answer you If you are ever in Vietnam thoguh we can sit down grab a coffee and with phones off can have fun talks about many things. But i can say China is big brother to Vietnam and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree for say. Your conclusion is up to you, but your standing pretty damn close to the tree with your "Thinking"

I’m confused. I called Vietnam immigration and they said there was no particular limit in the amount of times you can renew your 90 day tourist visa. I was hoping to stay a year in Vietnam starting this October and do a visa run every 90 days. 😕

You Called immigration? You just might be one of the few to ever get someone on a phone from there answering questions. Vietnam is testing the idea of reducing visa running. You can keep doing them, the decision really comes down to the border staff. It is not abnormal to hear someone gets rejected and has to wait or just flat out refused. Vietnam current is the ONLY country in SE Asia that allows longer than 6 month stays on a tourist visa, they are starting to change this slowly though. Immigration though, you talked to the Vietnamese head department in Saigon or you called a western counter part? You had me on that comment, i know people in Vietnam's immigration directly and the idea of calling "Immigration customer service" for say is not a thing, at least not on the Vietnamese side. If you are trying to stay longer, getting a some what part time job can get you on a TRC which will keep you in, no visa run required long term 12 months at min.

@@EndlessTravels Thank you so much for your input and rapid response. I spent 3 months traveling around Vietnam in 2006 - even went to Dien Bien Phu. I particularly fell in love with Hanoi. I loved and embraced to grit, bustle and character of that city. Yes, I changed my phone plan for international calls,( I’m in the US) and went on the Vietnamese immigration website. There was a number. I called it and someone answered! I was shocked. They told me there was no limit to 90 day tourist visa renewals but I still didn’t believe it. Seemed too good to be true. I HAVE indeed heard about what you mentioned regarding getting rejected at the border coming back from a visa run by land from Cambodia or Laos. That’s why I ask as many people as I can on who have TH-cam channels what they know and what they’ve heard. I did find out from a friend who lives in Vietnam that I can’t book a one way flight - must be round trip. Guess I’ll have to eat the cost and the cancellation fee. Unless I book the round trip back out of Vietnam to Bangkok? Anyway ….

Yeah thats odd, someone picked up hyou cannot even get a person calling American Express no more but immigration ha. I am sure that person you talked to was a general help person not an official or some one that cares much about the day to day changes until filnalized laws show up. This ISN'T a law its more of a discretionary thing at BEST. You do have some options though, if your older Cambodia offers a retirement, so its easy to back and forth there long term. Thailand JUST opened up a DTV which is a 5 years Tourist Visa you have to do a visa run on once every 365 days and that would allow you both sides And again some decide to marry into communist VN for a Residence TRC card that is 2 to 5 years with 10 year pending currently or you can work and get a 12 to 24 month Residence card What ever it is though you have 6 months, that is a LOT of time to figure things out and being in Vietnam you are in the middle of many countries, use that time to explore SE Asia :)
