If Dirge was in a movie and didn't die, people would love it because it would make Dirge one of the few characters that Michael Bay didn't immediately kill off. If Dirge was in a movie and he did die, people would love it because it would be true to the character. It's a win-win situation.
I always thought this guy would make a good Leader-1 redeco, with the wings on the legs and a fake cockpit on the chest that could easily be painted over to resemble Leader-1's traditional chest bulge. All it'd need is a new head. Of course, now that Bandai is making Machine Robo again it doesn't really matter, but it would've been cool.
Funny that you said that Movie Dirge's head looks like a squid because Armada Thrust was often called Squidhead on the show because of his head design. Speaking of Armada Thrust it would've been cool to see the ROTF Dirge mold in Armada Thrust's colors.
Psst, those aren't pylons, TJ. A pylon on an aircraft refers to the strut used to mount missiles/bombs. And yes, the "X" tailfin - along with other details on Dirge's vehicle mode - are made up, for licencing reasons. To be honest, I never used the missiles for weapons on this guy, I just left the left arm kibble uncollapsed and thought of it as a sniper rifle, like Cybertron Thundercracker's weapon. I still remember someone on TFW saying this was the worst toy of all time. It was hilarious.
I have the Jetblade deco since this one never got to retail over here and I must say it is a very nice and unique design as well, makes me wanna see Classics Dirge in this deco! Also, I must politely disagree, TJ, in my opinion(deluxe individual twins aside), ROTF and HFTD were the peak of the movie lines, so many unique designs!
I agree with you there. But in my understanding of TJ's wording, he meant that the main characters were the 'let down', so to speak, and that the non-movie figures were the best part.
Interesting that you said Rotf had the weakest line(excluding Last Knight like you commented below) It improved alot of the characters from movie 1 I feel which was the most inaccurate line to the movie if you ask me. Age of extinction to me felt like it had the most low quality figures of the previous lines and not really any that stood out aside from Evasion mode Prime. So that just leaves dark of the moon, which feels kind of weird to say it was the best line due to the annoying mech tech gimmick

There is so much objectively wrong with this toy--his arm articulation is almost useless and he's draped in kibble--but I still like him. One of the few toys from 2009 that I still have around. I guess it's his uniqueness and really unusual transformation.
The toyline had some exceptional figures (Leader Optimus), but a lot of experimental ones (Demolishor, Chromia, Arcee) that didn't work well as action figures, the occasional problematic design (Scalpel), and numerous figures that were far too complicated for their own good (Mudflap, Mixmaster). Granted this was made before The Last Knight which was mostly repaints and gimmick toys.
@@TJOmega thanks for refreshing my memory! I totally forgot about the autobot sisters and Scalpel. The only toy who was in my mind as bad figure is Brawn who has a terrible transformation.

It's strange to see that conehead homage make the original conehead look NORMAL.
I like that it's stylistically very different, I just wish it had been executed a little better. Just my 2 cents.
