An aggravated looking Ratchet? Yeah, that's the norm for IDW Ratchet. He's the Dr. McCoy of Transformers....I keep waiting for him to say "Dammit Rodimus, I'm a doctor, not a action figure!"...
"We all have that one toy in our collection that's just because it was the most accessible retail version" That's like my entire cyberverse collection because they're the only tf toys available where I live
The robot mode looks closer to a classics aesthetic than a movie toy but you're right the transformation is needlessly complicated resulting in far FAR too many panel lines in vehicle mode. I actually forgot what this mold was at first and was initially expecting him to be a repaint of Movie Ratchet in G1 colors. Those panel lines in vehicle mode are why I hate the movie designs, there's no way, when the robot modes are broken up like that, that they can transform without their vehicle modes looking like this figure.
allyou really need is the head from the takara rerelease (that can transform with the robot) and a sliding joint to have the aems lock into a better place.
The worst part is, with my luck, this would somehow be easier to get than Siege or Earthrise Ratchet. Why is he always limited? Yeah, he's a tool of Ironhide, but still!
If you don't mind remolds, you have Combiner Wars Ratchet and Ironhide (Ratchet was a BotCon exclusive sadly). Otherwise, your best bets are Prime Ratchet (even tho he's not G1-ish i do find him a good reimagining of the character), Timelines Ironhide if you want him to be a van (repaint of Energon Towline, who even has the battle platform gimmick that Ironhide's G1 toy had) or Prime Ironhide if you don't mind his pickup truck alt mode from Bayformers (he also got repainted into Kup if you're interested).
- non-movie toys with over-complicated transformation. - movie toys with simple transformation. apparently Hasbro's priorities is a bit screwed up.........
Perci Constance I like the fact that the legs are nifty and fun to transform, although my figure's head is always looking down, and I don't like the fact that the waist doesn't lock into place.
If I'm to guess, it's just not abysmal enough. It has a good deal of useful articulation, decent sculpting, a good weapon, and it looks like Ratchet. It fills a hole - it doesn't do it very well, but it does do it.
So the vehicle is a mess, transformation is boring and a lot of work, and the robot is nothing special. I'll stick with the Japanese G1 reissue for my Ratchet.

Im planning to get this ratchet from facebook because siege ratchet is a pain in the ass to find where i live
Personally I like to think of the ugliness of this mold as a cheeky homage to the ugliness of the G1 mold, so it's kinda appropriate in a way.
wsc0tt not really...
It's okay if you don't agree
I remember that when Megatron and Ratchet were fused together, literally joined at the hip haha
To me, the figure is alright. Yes it has its flaws and the transformation is a little complex but it’s an alright figure in my book
Still odd how they have yet to perfect the Ironhide shape on a modern deluxe
I think the Earthrise one did a good job at that, even though every version of that mold is stupidly hard to get
Finally found mine in storage. This video helped me remember how to transform him. Had issues with the legs. Thanks!

Nice review bro!!! I don't know how but I completely missed this figure. I may have to grab him.
You could've done this and ironhide for the plastic addict chopping block
I fully understand why people don't like this mold, but for some reason it grew on me, it actually made me a Ratchet fan!
Same here!
Why
I wish the siege and earthrise ratchet weren't so hard to get.
Prime Ratchet is my stand in for G1 Ratchet. :)

H3L PU2?
>shudders<
What did Ironhide's License Plate say? 46N T6N? EDIT: It says OREGON.
the help us was refering to Ratchet and Ironhide this time, for the toys they had
I like the robot mode but the van mode isn’t very good, I hope we get a siege version from Ironhide because that mold is amazing
we did and he's an exclusive to Walgreens. quite expensive online
@@chriscarpenter3370 he was revealed when I commented this plus I never saw him I had to get the Amazon exclusive one
I honestly just leave the bumper up to fix the head issue and make him a bit taller
I really hope we get a new Ratchet and Ironhide in the Power of the Primes line.

8:32 maybe it has something to do with the fact that he looks like a jigsaw puzzle
- non-movie toys with over-complicated transformation.

Vust Valeo This guy was made years ago when movie toys were still complex.
This is one of two molds that probably would’ve been better off in the Voyager size class
it works to me really good as a ratchet figure just not g1
I think if the figure had two of those gattlin scalpels it would of made up for some of the flaws. lol
Will you do a TJ TV on M.A.S.K? :)
Still relevant in 2021 with the same character
1:58 Wait H 3 L wrong order right letters may or may not confirm something.
Interesting figure.
How is this not on plastic addict
Yes to.many part lines
"Can't have a red cross anymore. Trademarking."
Actually it's about breaching the Geneva Convention technically. :v
Wow good
Eh, I like it.
The more shit people talk about this mold the more i want it
The screws, non-gunholding hands and fat face are inexcusable.
Paramedic vehicle may be
i actually really like the mold, i understand why people hate it but dont share that opinion
Perci Constance I like the fact that the legs are nifty and fun to transform, although my figure's head is always looking down, and I don't like the fact that the waist doesn't lock into place.
FPrimusUnicron I think the robot mode is okay, but the car mode is awful.
There is no help for him.
Why retail version never satisfied fans ? Is that so fans purchased masterpiece line? Most of fans are not rich, hasbro
TJ, what prevented this from being a plastic addict review? i don think it's horrible but certainly there are better.

Its mostly his legs and elbows that kills the look for me
This guy already wasn't great, but looking back at him now that we have Siege and Earthrise Ratchet/Ironhide he looks even worse.
I'm sorry, but it's not like children in the 80s would buy a toy van, unless it's from a cartoon
So the vehicle is a mess, transformation is boring and a lot of work, and the robot is nothing special. I'll stick with the Japanese G1 reissue for my Ratchet.
