It is a much less crowded deck and yet they seem to be rather laid back in their ops tempo. In this case, they seem to have trashed Cat 1 and are using Cat 2 and 3 (maybe 4 also). There seems to be little sense of urgency. In my era we used all 4 cats except on the first launch of the day. We would launch 12 aircraft in under 8 minutes. We would have 4 in tension and launch 4 the moment the light went green. Reload quickly and launch 4 more in 3 minutes. We always shot from the roof because it was much quicker and rarely used the bubbles (only used them for training). I would then wrap the waist and prepare to recover aircraft while we still had 4 yet to launch from the bow. The last 4 would go in 5 minutes and we would have already recovered the first aircraft from the previous launch. That gave me about 12 minutes to recover the remaining 11 aircraft from the previous launch. Our Captain expected launch and recovery in under 25 minutes. We did not always accomplish that because down aircraft on the Cat will slow you down, but we did it most of the time. That was fast work! Incredible team effort, making it all look so easy. I hear you on the rush. Is the jet inspected in the hangar below after every flight or can it be done on deck? How much time must you spend debriefing with the Crew Chief after a flight? Can you pre flight the jet on deck or does it also happen below?
Hi Will. Almost all maintenance actions can be performed on the flight deck, minus phase maintenance, engine changes, and things that require the aircraft to be jacked or without panels. The debrief is usually around 30 minutes, unless it’s an upgrade flight for someone, then it can be around 2-3 hours. We do all our preflighting on the flight deck. Sometimes it gets sketchy, especially at night. Chains that you don’t see can trip you. Prop arcs that you don’t see will kill you. The flight deck is a scary place, especially at night. Thanks for watching.
Yes, two on the bow and two on the waist. You can run all for at the same time (and I’ve done that), but you can’t shoot two off the bow and the waist at the same time. Wingtips will crunch. You have to stagger the launches by a few seconds.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thank for dropping the video. How long are you sitting in the jet prio to taxi? I suspect it depends but if things go smoothly how long? Thank you sir.
Is there a way your breathing equipment line could get crossed with the jet exhaust or fuel line? If so that could be deadly on a longer fight. I know it’s unlikely and the planes are all checked so regularly. Just a thought when you mentioned smelling like jet fuel.
Pail, I'm sorry. I think I missed spelled your call sign in my previous comment on your air refueling video. I didn't have a good view of the back of your helmet. So, how did you get your "Pail" call sign name?
@@GrowlerJams I sort of guessed that. When I was a midshipman at ucla they flew us out to the USS Hornet, but the ejection seat was activated by some sort of curtain you pulled down over your face. Sort of primitive I guess. Besides, we flow in a COD.
@@GrowlerJams Yeah i seen other vids of launches and they seems a little gentler; this one really abrupt. Notice other countries have a little curved ramp. Maybe this would give a little extra angle and momentum to the mass as it leaves the deck as i think they barely have lift speed as the end comes and i seen some drop off the end and sag trying for a few seconds to obtain enough lift speed it seems. The carrier has to turn into wind to give as much head wind air speed as possible and if its a hot humid day, much less lift than to a cold higher density take off as in regular flying. These engines cant afford one tiny drop in power after full power and the cat breaks forward or things get really bad real quick!! no margin for error.. I happy to stick to flying regular planes off fixed unmoving ground and leave this sort of flying to Tom Cruise!! haha

It depends. Normally 20-30 minutes.
@@GrowlerJams Got it sir thanks
Jet exhaust - Pilot aftershave!
I was ok watching this until 7mins 47sec....then shear terror set in, please don't do that again 🤣
🤷🏻♂️
Top!
Is there a way your breathing equipment line could get crossed with the jet exhaust or fuel line? If so that could be deadly on a longer fight. I know it’s unlikely and the planes are all checked so regularly. Just a thought when you mentioned smelling like jet fuel.
No, there’s no way that could happen.
Steamy indeed!
If possible..think the I.D. of the a/c you are riding could be in the description? Cheers
What do you mean by “ID”?
Cool vids! What watch are u wearing? Looks like an AP but hard to tell?
Swiss Tungsten Sapphire
@@GrowlerJams 🙂 never heard of that brand;)
Another great video! Do you happen to know Evan (No Pro)?
Don’t know him personally, but I know who he is.
Pail, I'm sorry. I think I missed spelled your call sign in my previous comment on your air refueling video. I didn't have a good view of the back of your helmet.
So, how did you get your "Pail" call sign name?
See the community tab. I tell the story.
Pretty sure I heard the rubber band snap back on that cat launch.
In The best
When you did your signature move, it "appears" do do not have a parachute. Is it in the seat? Thanks.
Yes, it’s in the seat.
Hope I don’t ask too many questions. What’s the yellow vertical striped handle near your left hand?
It ejects the canopy in an emergency.
@@GrowlerJams I sort of guessed that. When I was a midshipman at ucla they flew us out to the USS Hornet, but the ejection seat was activated by some sort of curtain you pulled down over your face. Sort of primitive I guess. Besides, we flow in a COD.
At what point do you fold the wings down? When lining up in the catapult?
Usually after crossing the JBD.
They put cinder blocks at the end of runway?? as thats a hell of a bang and stress to the tires or gear?
That's the sound of the jet rolling off the flight deck.
I happy to stick to flying regular planes off fixed unmoving ground and leave this sort of flying to Tom Cruise!! haha
What watch are you wearing?

My turn. What !? No AF ? Lucky me.
👌🏻✈️
There is a lot of 💩going on there. Awesome job 👍
82 to 88 VS-41 and VS-33 two west pacs USS Ranger CV-61 Jul 83 to Feb 84 and the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 1985 cruise and I was a plane capatain first and then AZ2 and love being a roof rat.. made the day go quick..
Sir..how is the temperature in the cockpit? I am curious
Hot on deck. Very hot.
Pretty sweet!
I will wait 6 years to be launched for real on that bird.
Can you tell us the type of ordnance you're carrying?
Or if you tell us you have to... you know.
Cheers!
I was carrying 3xALQ-99 tactical jamming pods, two drop tanks, one AMRAAM, and one AARGM.
@@GrowlerJams Awesome ! thank you!😎
👍🏼
Imagine driving a multi-million dollar fighter jet with a joystick. When I was your age, we'd catapult off an aircraft carrier with a good ol' fashioned steering wheel.
Gross.
I did a double take after seeing the thumbnail... The F18 in it kind of looked like an F4 Phantom at first...
