  • First of 3 parts from my John Ramsay 8mm movie collection of Glasgow's trams in their final 6 weeks of operation in 1962, following route 9 from Auchenshuggle in the city's east, to Dalmuir in the west, via Dumbarton Road.
Part 1 of this brilliantly-shot series from Auchenshuggle follows trams along London Road, through Bridgeton, Barrowlands, and The Trongate at Glasgow Cross, via a tram depot, and finishes along Argyle Street at the Heilandman's Umbrella, near Central Station.

Being born on Alexandra Parade, between James Orr St and Wishart St, near Castle St in Toonheid, my bed was at the street window in the top floor Tenement I grew up, born 1948, and when they took all the Trams off the Parade I couldnt sleep for ages as I had only ever known to sleep at the sound of the Trams going by.
