    Thank you, my friend John, for including my Lake Fork Trophy Lures' Live Magic Shad as one of your CB trailer options. You are a very honest man. And you are right too, the 3.5" is most anglers' favorite size. Many pros use it as you know.

    I finally gave in and bought some Jackhammer’s at a small tackle shop near me in MI. I asked the store owner for any tips or advice since I had never used a bladed jig. The Missile Baits 3.5” Shockwave was the 1st trailer he suggested to me, and you both are right! My 1st Largemouth caught on a bladed jig only took about 5 casts using that combo, and continued the entire afternoon and late into that night with nonstop Largemouth crushing my Jackhammer. I have had many epic outings since then with a jackhammer and a 3.5” Shockwave. I own dozens of other swim baits, but the shockwave seems to outperform them on a Jackhammer. it just works most situations and helps simplify trailer choices, especially if you are new to the technique like I am.Thank you for the time to share advice & tips! Struck a nerve when you mentioned a Shockwave 3.5, due to the success Ive had using them. I’m trying the Quiver Worm Next! And SK Rage Grubs, Craws have wored well when in murky water, or at night. The Berkley Pit Boss is also a good non-overpowering trailer. Gary Y. Cowboy & Mermaids have worked when i want a bulky presentation and will hop or crawl the jig along the bottom.

    My go-to is a Zako........ but some great ideas changing profile and action....... Had not thought of trying the Quiver.... but a great idea.... and I have to believe that it will let you work the bait down in the water column some........ Will give it a try.....!!!! Thanks for sharing.....!!!!

    Great video, John... used your Missle small boot-tail Saturday in a TX BassChamps event to catch a few.... I rig it upside down & seems to work even better at not negatively impacting the great Jackhammer movement (Tip from Matt at TacticalBass)

    I like taking the D-bomb and treading it on the hook vertical. Gives it a big bluegill profile. And even though it's been discontinued, the Berkley Havoc devils spear is a good one.

    going to have to try the quiver on the chatterbait....my favorite go to is the Zako...it is bulkier but it just flat out catches them....for a different look i really like the strike king twin tail menace grub

    Zoom Speed Craw, I often use that a lot on places like the Potomac. Other trailers I will use 3.2-3.8 swimbaits of varying brands. Hack for swims baits like Kietech, Rage Swimmer, Saucy Swimmer is rig them upside down. It allows the swim bait to still kick, while giving the blade action, and also keeps the bait from rolling over.

    • @robertbrost7777
      @robertbrost7777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Question regarding turning those swimbaits over on the back of a chatterbait. Keitech's are often two tone baits, half one color, half the other. Does turning them over discourage the bass from biting because the bait may no longer look "natural?" For instance, the half white, half clear swimbait. If the white is now on the top and the clear is on the bottom, do you lose the natural look? Sungill color is another good example. Dark on top, light on bottom. If turned over now it's the opposite. Thanks

    • @joshkidd5833
      @joshkidd5833 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haven't had issues yet with the laminate colors inversed on the Kietechs. The skirt and color pattern of the catterbait or bladed jig you use will usually blend the colors fairly well.

    Hey John awesome trailer tip video for chatter baits. I agree with Adam below, I’m going to give the quiver a try. I recently tried the hog farmer trailer, which also does not impede the action of the chatter bait. God bless!

    good stuff John-Crazy cuz I got the shrapnel shockwave on my bluegill REG 3/8s chatter cuz I can't afford to be throwing jackhammers..yet.Glad my color choices are similar to an angler I respect.I also use the Smash Tech Blade aide hand poured bladed jig trailers.Love em both depending on the forage Im trying to mimmick

  • @charlessheid8362
    @charlessheid8362 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had good success on a Gambler Big EZ and like you i do not like keitechs..Too much kick and looks lazy behind the bladed jig.. The big ez tends to rock and roll more and looks alot better in the water for a bigger profile. i dont know what it is exactly, maybe because there are tons of big gizzards in the lakes i fish, but they absolutely kill this combo here on the great plains. It doesnt hunt back and forth like you said but bumping it into everything you can see draws a lot of strikes. I also like a Strike King Rage Bug for bottom hopping and skipping.
    Im gonna definitely try the Quiver 6.5"! great idea!!

    I'm also a fan of the Shockwave, and when I need a darker bulky trailer I would use a Missile Baby D-Stroyer trimmed up, and occasionally a Strike King Rage Menace.

    Now that EVERYONE THROWS TJE CHATTERBAITS now I started branching out on trailers and when fish are on small glass minnows ill use a old school split tail trailer and it lets the bait hunt and dance through wood better and keeps it high over grass, when i want to imitate smaller bream ill throw a z craw Jr or rage menace on vertically and for big bream ill use the magnum menace or regular z craw, and when I want to go low and slow ill use the standard zako. Also I think the big bite baits real deal shad would look good without a skirt as a more finesse option.

    John, what I really want to know is do u back reels with mono or braid? I saw Aaron Martens use braid backing for fluoro. My experience is the spool spins inside the braid. What’s the deal here?

  • @upstateangler9575
    @upstateangler9575 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When I want to keep the bait down I will go to a zoom super fluke. Really no resistance and doesn't impede the action of the bait . I do like the smaller profile swimbaits the more I have experimented .I don't fish a twin craw trailer too often though.If I need to go there I like a swimjig better .

  • @limegreenfishingmachine3332
    @limegreenfishingmachine3332 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does the shockwave need to be flipped upside down to kick right? I know keitech fat swing impact tail kicks awkward rigged normal flip upside down perfect.

    Excuse my ignorance but why run a silicone skirt with a trailer anyway??? If your real cunning wouldn't you retie the whole skirt with bucktail, some silicone strips and a long rabbit fur zonker/s arrangement??? After all fish like something new in presentation don't They??? Anyway I ain't no bass pro or pro in any fishery but I think the more appealing bait is something no one else is throwing???
