    Why do these parents roll over and give their children smartphones? When I was growing up, I knew families that didn't even have TV's. No smartphones until you're 21. What's wrong with that? The parents are the ones who buy the smartphones and pay the bills. They are responsible too.

Not to mention slightly undercooked pizza, forgetting your sunglasses, dropping mustard on your shirt, ads, a pebble in your shoe, getting a hair in your mouth, low battery, and hearing opinions like the ones held by the woman in the video are all far worse.

As much as I despise most social media, they aren't directly responsible for any overdose deaths. Ms Butler's party is responsible for allowing this to happen for political gain imo, and that's beyond cynical and borderline treasonous.

      Where's the efficiency? Blaming Snapchat for fentanyl because the feds have failed closing the border or stopping foreign cartels?? I have to say that social media needs to be regulated, but I also have to say parents are the largest problem, I did not allow my kids to have a cell phone until they went to college, no drama, no influence, no brainwashing, I also did not allow my kids to have a computer in their rooms, or a tv not a chance, it was downstairs in the living room where we could all see what they were doing, schools are a large problem with this one. I would like to tell parents if they want healthy kids to do these things, no matter what bs the kids come up with, their mental health is so much more important to you, to them, and to everyone. 98% of kids would not have to be on meds to help them cope, they would be kids, and they would go out and do things, not sit online. please parents wake up. If you enact these simple measures at a young age, their lives will be so much better all the way around.

    Blaming Snapchat for fentanyl is a bit unfair when the Congress is letting 10,000 people pour into the country every day by refusing to solve the border. Snapchat is not in charge of the border or busting Mexican and Chinese drug cartels. The feds are. Child safety is important and it's good to see Zuckerberg be called out, but these Senators are way too smug given what they themselves have accomplished on the same issue.

      ? It is not necessarily about parenting but about the policies that allow predators to take advantage of the systems tech companies built on platforms including instagram, Facebook, Snapchat etc. they are essentially allowing for the exploitation and abuse of children and as a parent the dangers never end so to put the blame on the parents is pointless considering children still go behind their parents backs anyways and when that happens these companies are not only helping these predators but giving them tools to make it easier to commit these crimes. • @melissacoxen6001
      @melissacoxen6001 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      You're correct to a point. Yes as parents we need to be vigilant and parent our children, BUT social media companies are granted unprecedented latitude without hardly any oversight, if any at all. This incentivises them to NOT have to worry about being sued or held accountable. They can essentially do anything they want. That is the point of this hearing. Yes parents have a responsibility, but that doesn't change the fact that these companies need to have guard rails and some of their legislative protections removed so they can be held accountable.

    • @jonp341
      @jonp341 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Parents should be most to blame for not educating their children about social media and for overlooking these risks when they decide to give their children a computer or smartphone that connects to social media apps. Parents refuse to take responsibility for their negligence and always look to point the finger and blame others that have nothing to do with a parent's decision of buying their children a smartphone plus helping them get social media accounts.

  • @sanreb_
    @sanreb_ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Sure. Every single one of the owners of each platform should own up to some responsibility, but why are we neglecting to such a high degree the responsibility of the parents? I mean, all of the stories are tragic, for sure, but then what's the solution? Do we just erase every social media site on the internet? It's my understanding that these companies could be doing a better job preventing such damaging material from being shared, but as we all know, wherever there is human touch, there will always be a way of villainizing anything, and the best way to prevent kids from being in contact with such an evil reality is to either NOT EXPOSE THEM to it or provide some supervision. How many of the parents will take 10 min to try and understand how they could be supervising their children using the disposed tools?
    Do we just go back in time and disconnect from the virtual world? Be my guest! But to act like most of these tragic events couldn't be prevented by some sort of parental supervision is just ludicrous.

Going before a senate hearing with non-answers as though it’s an earnings call or something. “Yes or no, is the sky blue?” “well you see senator we have delegated this very possibility to our solutions team who have implemented several causalities that detect and determine whether or not the infrared spectra are appropriate for what one could subjectively describe as blue. In order to determine what blue means we have also consulted several focus groups and asked them what they feel is blue in order to cross reference against our own algorithmically derived model for likelihood of a blue sky occurrence.”
