I appreciate your honesty. There's a lot of videos out there saying we should do this or this bootcamp, creating an incredible portfolio, all this kind of stuffs. But they're missing the part of what it's actually like to be a UX designer, and what you're supposed to be doing on a day to day basis. So thank you for this reality check video. Hope it will open many eyes.
I'm starting my research into this path and found this video (and others on your channel) very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to be real and upfront with your viewers. One small, respectful critique: the noise you have paired with the text and images that swoop in is irritatingly loud compared to your kind, soft-spoken voice, especially for those who may be more noise sensitive. If I turn the volume down, I can't hear you talk but turning it up makes that noise much more invasive and it's a bit off-putting. Perhaps there are other, softer noises to pair text and images with that match your nice voice? Again, thank you for your content!
I'm trying to make a logical plan to move from technical writing to UX Writing. I've done a lot of the planning of personas, customer journeys, and customer testing. Although my favorite part is anything about words on the app whether it be labels, tooltips, onboarding screens, error messages, and help integration. So, I'm pushing towards m UX Writer classes first and getting a portfolio together. Then, i need to figure out whether I'm fulfilled with that career or want to continue to a UX/UI program. At a minimum, I'm pretty sure I'll do the Google Certificate. I'm in Colorado also. Is the meetup group virtual or physical?
I don’t mean to be rude but I hope the competitiveness of this field can weed out those who are not passionate about ux or just in it for the money. Thank you for making this reality check vid bc it’s always overlooked when a job is stated to make 6 figs etc

Great video and super insightful thank you for sharing this. Just wondering, what does a typical question you might be asked in a meeting about your work look like? and are there any challenging questions you've ever been asked you could share?
In your opinion what the best option for someone to go into this field? Should I pursue a bootcamp? Or web design degree and learn ux through free resources?
Honestly whatever makes sense for your financially and what type of learner your are. UX is a bit non-traditional when it comes to education so either path could work!
Yes, I think any kind of degree can always help but it might not be the deciding factor. Your portfolio & how well you can articulate your design process will matter more! 🙂

Hi, thank you for the video! I was thinking about getting into this field through a boot camp. I like the research I’ve done on Springboard but noticed that their job guarantee terms require that I have a bachelors degree, which I don’t have. Do you know of any other boot camps that you would recommend that has a job placement guarantee without the degree requirement?
I would look into some free beginner level UX courses to see how you like it and then from there decide if you want to learn officially through a bootcamp or be self-taught. Thank you for watching!

Hey! I think it depends on your level of comfort. You have to do a fair about of presenting your work, whether you are doing ux or graphic design. I would still do it because I like it, I just have to mentally prepare a bit more for tasks that I know might be challenging to my introvert side.
