I don't agree. If Ford went with a TR6060 then I might agree, but they budget with this TR3160, which might be great at stock HP levels, but doesn't hold up to modding as well as a TR6060. On the other hand a properly tuned 10R80 is a thing of beauty, and a hard transmission to beat with everything else being equal.
Two great looking cars either way you go! The Dark Horse, suspension and transmission make a big difference. It’s more for the road course and Track handling. Derek’s car is more for the Dragstrip , and it makes more sense for him… with his setup! 🐎💪💯
Not sure if you remember, but a few months back i commented i was grinding for a GT, but I ended up finding my dream dark horse and made it happen. And even after 2 months, i still get giddy looking back at it. And i gotta say, you were a big motivator in me going with the dark horse. Even got me sold on the white. But i don't regret getting the dark horse over a GT, it's actually amazing.
I agree I'm loving mine just did the Steeda Progressive springs and Active Flowmaster Outlaws this past Saturday and the difference is game changing along with ride and sound intense the car sounds Cammed at idle, that is because dark horses have different Cams than the regular GT
Jake good video!!!! The comparison between the two cars is good. The Dark Horse internals are titanium piston rods, beefed-up cams. There is one other item that is strengthened but I cannot think of it. Ford enhanced the responsiveness of the brake by wire system so the car being a track car didn’t need the brake disc as large as the GT-500, even though they are 15.4” disc in the front & 14” disc in the rear. The Dark Horse out brakes any previous Mustang made. In fact Car & Driver Magazine stated two months ago that the Dark Horse is the best braking car ever tested by the magazine over the 40+ history. Plus Ford engineers stated that they had better performance from the Pirelli Trofeo RS tires compared to the Michelin Cup II R tires. Cheers Brother‼️ 👍👊💪😎🇺🇸🐎
I ended up getting a base 300A S650 GT. The only three options I got was the active exhaust, Nite Pony Package (Black accents), and 10 speed. I already did some mods: Steeda lowering springs, H Pipe, GT500 style spoiler, and RTR side skirts & lip. The Dark Horse is obviously way better but tbh I didn’t have the money to spend 70k. & even if I did, I don’t track the car or race it. So you’re right, it entirely depends on the buyer. Great video!
The dark horse has forged internals. And of course that tremec transmission if you're rocking the 6-speed! That alone is worth the difference in the price of these two cars.
tremec ,magnaride and handeling suspension tuning along with interior/exterior make the "DARKHORSE" the better value,but the 650 turned out nice too,killer wheel/tire setup and the exhaust is awesome!
Just installed the AWE SwitchPath exhaust on my Dark Horse and I"m thinking about headers. Did you go with the Kooks 1 7/8, High Output (HO) Green Cats or the non HO Cats?
My base GT 10r80’car was 43k, kooks longtubes and a whipple stage 2 basically has me at 55K ALL IN. you just can’t beat it at the price point. 300A gang FTW.
My 2017 PP1 manual just hit 12,300 miles. My car still smells like it just came off the line it's still so new and clean. LOL.. I love my strut tower and K brace it does make a huge difference in the feel of the car.. But he did make that look like a premium for sure.. It looks great.. But anyway who ever had my car before me took great care of it. I made out great when I got mine..

I got the base Dark Horse for 60k 10 speed auto best decision I made, I got all the performance internally which is what I was looking for and all the active aero and looks it's what I wanted and I got a good deal I ended up trading my subi for this car and I got about 19.5k in postive equity so my loan for my Dark Horse was 45k payments are perfect and I'm Cruisin. I need to make a video as I just added a Flowmaster Axel Back Active Outlaws and on the Dark Horse it sounds like an animal and the car while in idle at a light now sounds Cammed , the reasoning behind this , a long with the forged internals you get you also have Different Cams rather than the regular GT comes with base cams. The difference in Lop is pretty significant with exhaust you can hear it clear and I'm excited in November to Whipple this our add a roush supercharger, I haven't decided yet.
@@CruisinCaptures Hell yea, I was looking at the DH, but when I went to "build and price" on the ford site they were like "call your dealership" and I was thinking I wouldn't be able to get one from factory and for this car I wanted it spec'd exactly how I wanted. I think 60k is a good deal, but I was hearing 70-80k and for that price i might as well get a c8 lol. I'm glad I spec'd it the way I did so I could put anything I saved towards customization. I don't plan on tracking it anyway so I probably wouldn't make full use of a DH, probably won't even get full use out of the PP lol.
@@pyrofox4o I wouldn't track it but I would in turn take it down winding roads that we have out in west of Austin, TX and also in West of San Antonio near the frio they have beautiful turns and curves to hug too. Obviously I wouldn't be racing through but it would be nice to drive thru all that. I was able to score my deal on mine cause it was custom built in Florida then it was shipped to Louisiana I then I had it shipped to a CarMax in my town corpus Christi and bought it with 1000 miles for 60 k out the door how did I get it that low well when you trade in with CarMax the taxes get cancelled out due to there policy of trading with them they get either significantly reduced or completely gone due to the trade in. I test drove a brand new base model GT. Manual car, but it just wasn't what I wanted right now. Maybe in the future I'll purchase something. I have enough project cars to deal with lol.

I know that's how they come but I really think it will look better with an all white Hood and just the black vent.. No offense meant, I am just one of those less is more People.. Most people I am sure will argue that Derick went the best way. But they have no idea how much having an oil cooler, trans Oil cooler, and a Rear cooler make over the life of a car.. Or the differences in handling and braking.. Like I drove a 19 GT350 and then got back in my 17 GT and it was a weird feeling.. The Shelby GT350 felt similar but a little more cat like as far as handling but the real difference was going from an MT82 to the tremec and then back into the MT82.. God I gears felt so much smoother and shifting it was a pleasure compared to the MT82.. That has always bothered me about the Manual GT's they keep putting a (Good Enough) manual in them instead of a great one.. It is what it is if mine ever goes I'll just get a Ben Calimer Stage 2 MT82 and keep it simple.
So I would choose the Dark Horse over the base GT, because Dark Horses seem nicer with the vinyls on the hood and front bumper, along with a spoiler that shows off more. Plus the Dark Horse badge looks dope!
I guess if you're on a budget or you don't intend to track the car, a GT is perfectly fine... but if you're buying a GT to drag race or street race, then snag a 2023 model so it can be tuned.

Alrighty, Time to add some extra nerd shit/comments on this one (why you might ask, to help give my guy some views here). Speaking as an S550 owner without a Performance Pack (400A because heated and ventilated seats), what I will say is for those looking at doing brakes, if handling performance is your intention with the S550 or S650, please note that the stock base brakes on all mustangs are Brembo's (yes they are, In order to get them to fit into a price point Ford paid for Brembos without branding). Because of this the stock performance is way higher than what most people actually think. If you go for a track day most folks on the forums (mustang6g) really recommend only upgrading the fluids and for those regulars to track days obviously streetable-track specific pads. Another thing to keep in mind (especially for brake upgrades) is the unsprung mass especially if you are slapping new rubber and light weight wheels on all four corners. I've spoken with a few guys and they mentioned this point (now is the effect marginal, maybe, but if it creates a significant difference in feel then it is what it is). And most important before you upgrade your brake system, think about upgrading your rubber. Its not your brakes that are stopping you, its the rubber (well 95% of the equation is the rubber). All the brakes are doing is taking the energy from the wheel spinning and turning it into heat (oversimplified, if you want thorough explanation hit up Jason from Engineering Explained). Now for the gents in the video, keep on trucking, I expect ya'll to hit that 500K (yeah pushing that hurdle up by a few pegs 🫡🫡🫡)
As an S550 GT premium with performance pkg owner, I'd choose to buy the JAPANESE car. Took me over 40 yrs to finally get my new Mustang, only to absolutely hate it. 1st Ford and my last. Ford can go to hell.

I'm saving to trade it in on anything other than a Ford, GM or Mopar garbage products. I may get the Lexus IS 500, Acura TLX or just give up all together and buy a new Frontier. I'm so angry at Ford, I'm trying to calm down before I make a second purchase mistake.

The alternatives that were listed were the furthest idea from how you and I would view or use our mustang (granted I could be misreading something here). I get it from a fit and finish standpoint but the alternatives listed pretty much prove you bought the wrong car for yourself out right. Lexus, Acura. Both these alternatives are not performance cars (okay you can make an argument for the IS 500) but that's not competing with what the mustang is or is trying to be (besides you added two doors). Even the other suggestion of the Frontier is a pickup. It sounds like you bought the car on a whim or didn't know what you really wanted. Again I have no issue if the car isn't what you wanted from the beginning but, don't slam the domestic market because you chose the wrong car.

So if the difference is an additional $10K after the GT mods then I would spend an extra $10K($20k total) and get the Dark Horse. Dark Horse is worth the $20k stock difference in my opinion. All the suspension mods from GT350 and GT500s and front and rear coolers, brakes, wheels, magnetic ride, plus interior its ALL worth the extra $20k. Now GT guy got all his mods free so the $10K difference does not matter to him since they were given to him to mention their products. Personally if it does not have the Tremec manual I don't want it and the regular GT manual is trash. No interest in that 10 speed; had it in my '17 Raptor and never liked it.

I guess if you're on a budget or you don't intend to track the car, a GT is perfectly fine... but if you're buying a GT to drag race or street race, then snag a 2023 model so it can be tuned.

Alrighty, Time to add some extra nerd shit/comments on this one (why you might ask, to help give my guy some views here).
Speaking as an S550 owner without a Performance Pack (400A because heated and ventilated seats), what I will say is for those looking at doing brakes, if handling performance is your intention with the S550 or S650, please note that the stock base brakes on all mustangs are Brembo's (yes they are, In order to get them to fit into a price point Ford paid for Brembos without branding). Because of this the stock performance is way higher than what most people actually think. If you go for a track day most folks on the forums (mustang6g) really recommend only upgrading the fluids and for those regulars to track days obviously streetable-track specific pads. Another thing to keep in mind (especially for brake upgrades) is the unsprung mass especially if you are slapping new rubber and light weight wheels on all four corners.
I've spoken with a few guys and they mentioned this point (now is the effect marginal, maybe, but if it creates a significant difference in feel then it is what it is). And most important before you upgrade your brake system, think about upgrading your rubber. Its not your brakes that are stopping you, its the rubber (well 95% of the equation is the rubber). All the brakes are doing is taking the energy from the wheel spinning and turning it into heat (oversimplified, if you want thorough explanation hit up Jason from Engineering Explained).

As an S550 GT premium with performance pkg owner, I'd choose to buy the JAPANESE car. Took me over 40 yrs to finally get my new Mustang, only to absolutely hate it. 1st Ford and my last. Ford can go to hell.

@ItalianStallion410 My S550 is currently sitting in my garage collecting dust. I've put 200 miles on it in the past year just to make sure it's all good. I'm saving to trade it in on anything other than a Ford, GM or Mopar garbage products. I may get the Lexus IS 500, Acura TLX or just give up all together and buy a new Frontier. I'm so angry at Ford, I'm trying to calm down before I make a second purchase mistake.

The alternatives that were listed were the furthest idea from how you and I would view or use our mustang (granted I could be misreading something here).
I get it from a fit and finish standpoint but the alternatives listed pretty much prove you bought the wrong car for yourself out right. Lexus, Acura. Both these alternatives are not performance cars (okay you can make an argument for the IS 500) but that's not competing with what the mustang is or is trying to be (besides you added two doors). Even the other suggestion of the Frontier is a pickup. It sounds like you bought the car on a whim or didn't know what you really wanted. Again I have no issue if the car isn't what you wanted from the beginning but, don't slam the domestic market because you chose the wrong car.

I did own a 19 1SS 1LE, and it was great, and would tear the Japanese cars that you mentioned a new one. I do own a F150 with a GEN3 Coyote that will absolutely destroy a new Frontier. So if the difference is an additional $10K after the GT mods then I would spend an extra $10K($20k total) and get the Dark Horse. Dark Horse is worth the $20k stock difference in my opinion. All the suspension mods from GT350 and GT500s and front and rear coolers, brakes, wheels, magnetic ride, plus interior its ALL worth the extra $20k. Now GT guy got all his mods free so the $10K difference does not matter to him since they were given to him to mention their products. Personally if it does not have the Tremec manual I don't want it and the regular GT manual is trash. No interest in that 10 speed; had it in my '17 Raptor and never liked it.
