We in the USA have 19-20 millions, our consumerism makes the UK numbers of these hoarders look like kindergarten play. It's a shame... the Diagnostic Statistic Manual V, has accepted these folks as finally having a legitimate coping illness (mental condition) -- this was accepted by the psychologists, and psychiatrists, a few years ago. Interestingly, instead of lowering per recognition & treatment; the numbers continue to rise of such affected individuals! When they are helped, many simply fall back into their hoarding mindset. It's quite a tragedy, considering many value their possessions more than people whom could make more of a difference in their lives - whether their reaction is from recent trauma, decades old from childhood traumas, depression or anxiety issues ...
Faye, thank you for describing your thought process, very interesting and good to understand, very articulate, all the best! You are doing great, keep going ;-) would love to watch a series with Faye
A lot of excuses, this is what always strikes me in some of these videos. "I can't, it's stronger than me, it's a condition"... They are the only person who has control and can change how they handle their possessions, they are also the ones affected adversely by such living conditions. Repeating the same excuses over and over again is not gonna bring any positive change and it seems like most of these people realise that but are simply unwilling to do anything because it's more convenient to feel sorry for oneself and not make an effort. I know from experience it's very easy to spiral out of control with negativity but putting an end to it is only up to me and requires daily work and consistency. Not excuses.
It's an illness, not an excuse. You can tell me to try harder to breathe as much as you want, I still need an inhaler for my asthma. It's similar with mental illnesses, these people simply can't do it on their own.
The fact that she's calling it OCD is a way for her to have ppl who she tells about her illness - think that she's clean and not dirty. Most ppl associate OCD with someone who is overly clean and picky. Clearly this woman wants to live in filth.
Sally’s place was cleared out and so gorgeous. How did she let that happen again? I can’t get my head around that. Didn’t it feel so fresh and light after the cleaning? That poor cat. Wow. Just wow. She needs weekly therapy and weekly cleaning help to keep things in check. How horrible to live like that. 😢how horrible for her neighbours 🤦🏻♀️
She should be supervised and clean it herself. Why should someone else have to clean up after her? Perhaps they can train her to follow a cleaning schedule.
I think its easy to have this happen sadly. I lost my husband and some days i just dont care about anything. But i just cant allow myself to live in my home like this, so i do clean. After watching hoarders for yesrs, i just dont want that problem.
These people are actually exhbiting an interesting form of narcissism. Especially Richard. He is _very_ ego driven. Faye isn't over her divorce hence the avoidance of the bedroom.
I do believe that if I was to leave my husband here alone to long my house would be damaged by junk mainly cars and car parts and he wouldn’t clean up after himself or our cats so I pray I never lose my ability to clean up after him or myself
Fay..I has systems for everything too. But I came to a point where inrefused to let it have power over my life.Mind over matter. You can retrain your brain♡Simply throw it away & walk away..& keep doing it. Sometimes our mind is our own worst enemy. But only YOU are in control..not your mind
I do not intend to be disrespectful, but there is still a huge difference between having systems and it being compulsive. She can certainly learn to manage, but not on her own, she needs someone professional to help, like a therapist

One thing wrong with Sally-Laziness.🤨She tries to say it's because of her mum's death&taking care of her dad,but throwing away paper plates doesn't take but a second. 😒Someone please take that cat away from her!😳
when i don't throw away something right then it's usually because my back hurts and i don't want to walk to the trash can. but also sometimes there's a feeling that it's so much work to clean everything so why even bother throwing away this one thing, especially when it would hurt my back to do so. so i end up with a mess and then clean it all eventually. i also have a chair that's supposed to help with my back, we'll see
@@solidstate9451 my sister just visited me for the first time since I had my cat and she is a cat person. She never saw but a glance of her. My cat only knows me. Only stays inside home. If I was afraid my cat would be subjected to having a cleaning crew along with a camera crew in our home I would put her in a crate to keep her safe as she hasn’t been outside since she was about a month old. Abandoned under my house crying by her mother that I never saw. When I vacuum she hides in kitchen cabinet until that threat she feels is over.
At least with the cat in a crate you know where she is till the confusion of the cleaning crew and camera crew have left the building. Hoarders do Not have company. That is how it makes it easier to become a hoarder. If you take your cat to the vet do you think they roam free to seek out a hiding spot? No they have designated kennels just like the dogs.
@@arvenblack5656 There are WAY more animals that responsible homes. Would it be "more humane" if hoarded animals were in crates at the pound, waiting to be euthanized? Get real. @@arvenblack5656 Putting it in a crate while strangers are there IS the responsible thing. The cat just sees new large predators coming into its territory, which can make it run off. "A life's work all gone to waste" said the newspaper hoarder. Him hoarding newspapers IS a waste. What is the importance of keeping old news? He has built walls around himself with newspapers for a reason. He's trying to protect himself from something. When I was a young woman I worked temporarily for an elderly couple who ran a ranch of sorts. They wanted me to cook for them. When I walked into their house I couldn't believe my eyes. Newspapers and magazines piled up everywhere in stacks. Not like the man in this video but it was something I had never seen before. The kitchen was a cluttery mess but not horribly filthy. I was able to prepare meals for the couple but I didn't dare attempt to clean anything. The couple were hard working and it never seemed like they took any time off for themselves. They always looked dirty of course from working cattle and fields of wheat. I just don't understand why anyone would keep old newspapers. This couple didn't even use their newspapers to start fires in the fireplace. So odd....
I'm not a hoarder but I did alot of decluttering and I got rid of stuff that I gave to a shop. They are always so happy to get things that they sort out that someone else could use.
This is why I don’t like apartments because you can be the cleanest person there and your neighbors live like that ..causing bugs and rats and stink…it’s a rental meaning you do not own it,,take care of what’s not yours to destroy,,take care of what is yours,,,it’s very sad to see people go through this..

Anyone else noticed the flying paper plate in Sally's kitchen? 23:46, you see the kitchen behind the two cleaning ladies...have a look. Weird!
Would anyone really go there for a cup of tea.
I doubt it very much.
The thing that gets me she sounds proud of the mess
You can't be bothered to throw paper plates in the bin? She's terrible. Poor poor cat.
How has no one mentioned the strange audio halfway through?
Poor cat.
I love Richard. If you nanage to wedge a stack of papers into the ceiling, then you've won!
So Sally uses paper plates to avoid having to wash, only to pile them up for the maggots instead of throwing them in the trash can. LOL
Faye, thank you for describing your thought process, very interesting and good to understand, very articulate, all the best! You are doing great, keep going ;-) would love to watch a series with Faye
this is pure lazyness! collecting is one thing, living in cat shit is another.
This is why I dont eat at potlucks
Same here...
The kitty should NOT be in a crate!!
Poor kitty , why the cage ? It’s sad all round !
I wonder where she gets the money from to go shopping? It's no big deal to take out a bag of trash on the way to the store.
Lazy ... She can't be bothered 😮😮😮
What is wrong with using a trash bag. Put the rubbish in a plastic bag and throw it away. These people are highly intellectual then I prefer to be dumb and I have a clean home
One thing wrong with Sally-Laziness.🤨She tries to say it's because of her mum's death&taking care of her dad,but throwing away paper plates doesn't take but a second. 😒Someone please take that cat away from her!😳
when i don't throw away something right then it's usually because my back hurts and i don't want to walk to the trash can. but also sometimes there's a feeling that it's so much work to clean everything so why even bother throwing away this one thing, especially when it would hurt my back to do so. so i end up with a mess and then clean it all eventually. i also have a chair that's supposed to help with my back, we'll see
I’m surprised the landlord doesn’t evict her
I wish I had two friends, like those two ladies that helped Sally. I really don't need someone to clean for me. Just need a chore buddy.
what is the music at the 25 min mark???
Seeing his juice glass at the end, almost made me vomit
Why is the cat in a cage?!
My thoughts exactly??
Probably because there is a camera crew and most cats are scared of strangers. Mine is.
@@cherylmahaffey6184 And then you lock your cat so it can't hide?
Poor cat! That is no life for a cat! Let her out of that damn cage!
It's safer in its crate while the cleaners are there. It could panic and run off. She can let it out when they go home for the night.
@@3namechangezalowdevry90day7 The cat shouldn't be in there in the first place. Get it to a responsible family.
@@arvenblack5656 There are WAY more animals that responsible homes. Would it be "more humane" if hoarded animals were in crates at the pound, waiting to be euthanized? Get real. Very few shelter pets go to an ideal "forever" home. Some are put down, some of the adoptees are brought back and some are "adopted" for use as lab animals by medical testing facilities.
@@arvenblack5656 Putting it in a crate while strangers are there IS the responsible thing. The cat just sees new large predators coming into its territory, which can make it run off. I know of one cat who ran off during apartment maintenance. He wasn't recovered until a month later and he had an enormous wound full of fly larvae that took weeks to heal.
Fay seems lovely her flat doesn't look dirty its just looks full atleast shes trying i think theres a difference between being just straight out lazy and living in basic shit than hoarding items and being overwhelmed not being mean but sally seems more lazy than anything i hope they can all get well and become happy
Richard, you're not immortal so when you eventually die people will come to your house and skip the lot! Your life's work will inevitably be landfill. I wish this man could see that and at least live his last years in some comfort. Hats off to the people who work with hoarders etc, because it would drive me crazy I have no patience for that shit. ❤
The most precious thing Richard has is his neighbour. What a lovely man & he is very fond of Richard. 🫶
Exactly ❗
That poor cat looks more like a prisoner….or a hostage. Shameful.
I'm so happy for them, praying they can keep up the good work 🙏🥀
"A life's work all gone to waste" said the newspaper hoarder.
So odd....
She needs to be in a home
I wish Fay the best, it seems she's really trying!
I watch these to motivate me to clean my apartment. If I squint, it suddenly doesnt seem much different than whats being shown -_-
That is crazy and sick how somebody can live like that
I'm not a hoarder but I did alot of decluttering and I got rid of stuff that I gave to a shop. They are always so happy to get things that they sort out that someone else could use.
These women cleaning are heroes.
Drinking orange juice out of dirty cup 🤮🤢😵
The more I look at them (hoarders), the less excuses I accept, if at all..
This is why I don’t like apartments because you can be the cleanest person there and your neighbors live like that ..causing bugs and rats and stink…it’s a rental meaning you do not own it,,take care of what’s not yours to destroy,,take care of what is yours,,,it’s very sad to see people go through this..
I like having an own house because I have a cat flap. My cat shits outside.
40:50 Why is there music overlay? 🤔
I understand hoarding is a mental issue, but I can't understands it happens. I am the opposite, my parents kept lots of useless stuff, as I found when I cleaned out their house. Hope these people get serious help.
She don't need no. CAkes or biscuits
So this poor cat is sitting in this cage all day long!? 🙀 Please find a new home for this poor soul!! ❤
Lady that’s just disgusting.
Custard should be removed from that horrible mess; he is truly suffering and the victim here.
Sallys place didnt just happen a couple weeks ago thats months. Poor cat stuck in a cage
Out of curiosity, who pays for the clean?
I cant watch a show about a poor cat stuck in a cage. The thing that should be in a cage is not the cat. She is disgusting.
It's safer in its crate while the cleaners are there. It could panic and run off. She can let it out when they go home for the night. It shouldn't be in the crate 24/7 unless it's for medical reasons.
I wouldn’t eat a tic tac😂from you mama 😂😂
