  • I love working on black paper, as you can create depth straight away and start layering up leaves.
This is a simple process of painting white gouache onto the under-side of leaves and hand-pressing onto paper.
*You don't need black paper, you could easily print onto your usual paper and use bright colours :O) or follow along with my watercolour leaf printing class.
The full class is on my Skillshare page. If you're not a member but would like to try it out, use this code (which is attached to this class, but also gives you access to hundreds of other classes) to have full access for 14 days.

Wow, this looks amazing! It's great that you're working on a dark background.

What kind of paint do you use? Is it acrylic?

Hi there, I'm using white gouache, but watercolour (used more thickly) or acrylic would be great too.... even poster paint. Let me know if I can help further 🙂

Did you press the leaf or soak it in water to soften for a certain amount of time before doing the prints?

Chantelle, I am so sorry I'm just clocking your question now! You must think me very rude!! The answer is you don't need to pre-soak them before printing.... but I do soak my leaves sometimes, to buy me more time, as it preserves them, rather than them shrivelling up quickly. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment. :O)
