    If I was to buy this phone, I'd go for the China version, wait the allotted time to unlock the bootloader, install TWRP then Magisk and then flash Xiaomi EU ROM. Doing this, you would end up with an even better version than the Global ROM. Xiaomi EU ROM is debloated, optimized and you'd have all the language support needed

    Hey Frankie, something to consider. Those of us in the USA have to be mindful for the lte band support. The global version is actually missing band 4g- 12 / 17 & 5g n41 that the China rom has.
    Buying a global rom version would leave me with a phone that doesn't have a primary 4g band and no 5g support.

    Two other important problems with chinese versions (I had these with my mi8) there is no in app purchase (was a problem for my drone app, I could not get some extra features) and you can not use your phone to pay. The other problem with flashing your phone would be that you can not lock your bootloader and secured applications will not work for example bank applications. I also heard you could not stream more than 480P netflix videos with the unlocked bootloader.

  • @revolee993
    @revolee993 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    NOTE: For potential cheap xiaomi phone buyers
    A xiaomi phone with china rom may cost slightly cheaper than the global version, do note that some apps may not work properly or have notification delays due to the lack of Google services integrated within the rom. You'll have to unlock the bootloader and flash the global rom, unlike oneplus which is more user friendly without bl unlock. In addition, after flashing the rom, some apps may still not work properly as it requires your system to pass safetynet because it detects that your bootloader is unlocked. You'll then have to root your device and flash magisk in order to pass safetynet.
    If you've being following the rooting scene for a while, it was noted by magisk dev john wu that Google may patch safety net in the near future which might permanently break the functionality of hiding your bootloader. Basically, passing safety net is a cat and mouse game with Google and you'll constantly need to update to the latest version of magisk.
    If you like xiaomi phones and don't want to give yourself a hard time, do yourself a favor by just buying the global rom version instead as it works right out of the box although it may cost more. Saving a couple of hundred bucks isn't worth it imo when you have to go through the tedious process of tweaking the china rom ver to work internationally. I learned this the hard way a year ago.

    I accidentally bought the Chinese version of the Mi Max 3 with a buggy beta ROM on it, so I had to flash the China ROM onto it, set it to English and side-load Google services onto the phone along with a Roman keyboard.
    I am suprised about how stable the China ROM has been and how fast I got new updates. I never encountered a single bug in the two years that I've had the phone.
    My brother has the global version and we found out something interesting. Video quality on the Chinese ROM is way better than on the global version!
    If there are going to be 300 Euro price differences between Chinese and global versions of Xiaomi phones, then I don't mind using the Chinese versions. You can simply set the language to English, uninstall any Chinese bloat, side-load Google services and install a Roman keyboard.

    It is too expensive for Europe. I live in Germany and almost everybody has iPhone or Samsung. Nobody knows Xiaomi or know it as a brand that has quite good things (far from premium) for low price.
    Also having the latest iPhone or Samsung brings you the rich status, which is important for many. We bought Xiaomi mi 9 or mi 9T pro because it was 320€ instead of 800-1000€ Samsung or iPhone flagships but now for same price nobody would buy.

      You can check video comparisons between mi 9 and mi 10 Pro global in terms of photo. There has been almost no progress, this 108mp camera is useless because of the bad software. The software of Xiaomi phones is no where near Apple, the price is 300€ more expensive... Also, the iPhones really look like serious phones which brings you respect from other people. The Xiaomis mi 10 look like a joke, there is nothing premium in the build to justify that price. Mi 9 was really a good deal for 320€, but the mi 10 Pro at 1000€ is just sad...
      The hardware of mi 10 looks just like Xiaomi mi note 10 which is 400€ currently on German market.
      If we pay thousands of euros the we want premium hardware and close to perfect software. This is really no place for Xiaomi. What they did with mi 9 and mi 9t pro was perfect.

  • @prince10t

    one main thing that is most of the time overlooked is that, China version is cheaper because it has less 4G and 5G bands. Meaning that you are also paying the additional 4G and 5G bands on a Global Version. This is really not an obvious thing unless you look deeper on its spec sheets ofcourse.

    Hey Frankie, you know I'm a big fan so please take this as constructive criticism. I thought the idea of this video was really good and would be very helpful but I don't feel you fully (or maybe clearly) explained what all the differences would be for an average user.
    So you did clearly said explained language support which is understandable, you touched upon 'tighter integration of Google services' on the international version but didn't really explain what this is or would mean for the user, like does it just mean installing everything yourself from the Play Store achieves the same result?
    I wasn't quite sure whether the hardware is identical or almost identical as you interchanged between saying both a few times.
    I guess what I'd suggest is have an on screen 'differences' chart (or a written list on paper you can show in the video). If it really is just languages and having to install Google Play Store yourself then for English speakers then definitely don't get the international version but if there is more to it then the chart can explain these points.
    Anyway, love your videos and keep safe. Looks like things have improved a lot in HK and mainland China which is good.

    I think you miss a really important aspect when comparing China and Global version, what would keep me from buying China version. It is the supported bands and living in Europe (Hungary) the lack of B20 in the China version can be a problem. And it is always the case with Xiaomi phones, China version don't have B20. It is not always the case with other manufacturers. I had the China version of the Mi Note 2, i really did not mind only having English, but in the summer time, when we were doing camps, the lack of B20 was really painful. After i saw the prices , i bought myself a galaxy s20+ on ebay for 739$ 🤷🏻‍♂️ yes the PLUS VARIANT for 260$ less.. official dual sim version made for europe supporting all of the necessary bands .. id only pay that much money if it was a mi mix alpha-ish device ... theres no way this is going to be a successful product in Europe considering the fact that major brands (samsung, lg etc) loose their prices and probably will cost a lot less in a month or two and they also support all the European 4g & 5g bands so essentially you’re getting a better deal (china rom version of mi 10 / pro doesnt support all of the necessary bands) ... i have owned every single flagship device from xiaomi since the original note 1 pro on snap 810 ... last device I bought frrom xiaomi is the mi note 10 ... great device , mediocre chip (snap 730g) ....

    There is another problem between global rom and china rom. The widevine security level in china rom is L3 and global rom is L1. This will affect the compatibility of the Netflix and other apps even you flash to global rom on the china version phone because the bootloader must be unlocked when using global rom in china version phone and this will affect the SafetyNet can't be passed.

    Certainly not worth that for the European version when you can get very good alternatives for half the price. The China version will probably have problems in Europe with Google pay and nfc functionality and doesn't have proper European band support in any case so should be a non-runner in Europe. Of course, for people who like miui and and don't care about value for money why not get the European version. All Chinese brands charge 30-40% more in Europe though so not surprised by this although thought it would be around €100 cheaper

  • @infinityNmore

    The Global version is SINGLE SIM. And for me, this is a deal-breaker, especially as I travel a lot (well, a bit less lately...). It costs HKD 6000 (I live in Hong Kong), which is nearly double the price I usually pay when buying Xiaomi phones in the past. I like the screen and cameras very much, can accept that there's no 3.5mm audio port and no SD card slot. But I just can't accept SINGLE SIM, especially as I travel. And this is even more frustrating when I know that the China version has Dual SIM.
    This is a big BIG disappointment for me. Long time fan of Xiaomi, disappointed. So I'll see if the K30 Pro Zoom global version will have Dual SIM or Single SIM. If Single SIM also, I'll be buying another brand for the first time in 8 years.

    • @FrankieTech
      @FrankieTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow sorry to hear Damien. I only ever use a single SIM so it’s a non issue for me, and I also prefer deep google integration, multiple language support, and less annoying ads of the Global versions. But agreed that is a letdown if you value that!

    • @infinityNmore
      @infinityNmore 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FrankieTech thanks for your reply 🙂. I have a particular lifestyle, living between two countries (hence the need of dual sim). In the past, I would buy Xiaomi flagship models without any second thoughts, as the prices were always reasonable. I must admit that this year, it's the first time I really hesitated because of the price tag. So perhaps this single sim is a blessing in disguise, as it helped me decide 😉.
      Stay safe and take care.

    If you can order a Xiaomi phone from China then you're smart enough to flash a global or European version into it. I live in Australia, with no Xiaomi stores here, so I have to order phones from china and install a global ROM. It works. One thing you have to mention is that: you buy a phone from your local Xiaomi store and you get a warranty with it.
