    Both phones have made compromises in the camera departments which is hugely disappointing to me.
    Xiaomi including the 2x telephoto (down from a 8mp 5x periscope) is STUPID because when you have a high 50mp main sensor cropping to 2x digital is just as good, and it will probably use the main sensor for zoom at night anyway!
    OnePlus have downgraded the flagship Sony 776 ultra wide sensor used in the 9 pro to a budget Samsung JN1 sensor. This is a massive downgrade in my eyes and not enough reviewers are calling it out.
    I think both have made these subtle changes to hopefully push more people to buy their ultra variants? (OnePlus is rumoured to be releasing a ultra or pro plus this year)

      Also, those geekbench results are only about 15% higher in single core and less that 10% higher than my Samsung S20 fe with a Snapdragon 865 and 6gb of ram! That's two generations ahead and man I'm really disappointed with the CPU gains there

      @@davidbezzant9820 I wouldn't consider geekbench as a performance benchmark, those scores are just there, but 8 Gen 1 is a terrible SoC probably suitable for Laptops with Windows Arm

      Exactly, seems all about buzz words and in the end these phones seem to be worse than the previous generation. I could care less if a phone gets a million in Antutu. A fast enough for every day tasks cpu with good camera and lenses is all that I am looking for, and something that works. If these super spec phones can't even record without dropping frames, jitter then there is no need to advertise them as being able to record 4K 60fps and being 'flagship'. A boat with a sail? ;-) . And as you say it they push towards the Ultra and Pro plus as being magical while they will probably push the price up by 200 euro's or more. For that 200 euro you can buy a mainstream phone that can also record 1080P and do everything else with. It will probably cost them like 20 euro in extra parts and we will all fall for it.

      Who buys a mobile PHONE for its CAMERA quality? If you care about quality then you would already own a decent camera. Its like buying a phone and not being happy with its audio output because it doesn't have a dedicated DAC

    Great video! And so clear, no mincing words! I have a OnePlus 7T and these 2 were the only upgrade options left for me 😃 Well, the Oppo Find X5 hasn't arrived here yet... so maybe a little hope there. The Pixel doesn't have Macro or Ultra Wide, The S22 Ultra well, less said the better though the camera on both those is excellent. You've ruled out these 2 and that processor, so ? Prices are up like never before, so... Is this a really bad time to buy a phone?

    Super review. Like it when you are on the consumer side. Oh, I think the Covid and overheating 888 have something to do with the "lost generations."
    I just got OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition for 309 USD (Amazon). It is sub-branded with T-Mobile but is unlocked. I consider this model to be the archetype of all smart phones. Even now it has Android 11 along with 500+ ppi resolution, curved display, stereo speakers, 90 Hz refresh, OIS on 48Mpix Main cam as well as OIS on telephoto with 3x optical zoom, EIS on front and selfie cams, pop up selfie, and USB Type-C 3.1. It has but one 5G channel. A historical gem that today runs and looks with the best.

    Chris, you are doing some of the best reviews out there. I am not a flagship buyer myself, rather mid-range. I'm interested in flagships in order to anticipate what will trickle down to the mid-range. I have a Poco F2 Pro and really don't see why I should 'upgrade' my phone. The only thing is that my next phone should be slimmer and lighter (something like the Mi 11 lite). Other than that I look forward to upgrade my laptop at the end of the year with the new Intel and AMD chipsets and brighter screens. But the phone market offers no enthusiasm this year.

If mediatek can make simular performance but with better efficiency and offer a decent modem to boot they might challenge Qualcomm

    *Honest review as always.* Thank you, Chris! I hope Xiaomi sees this review, as well as some other honest reviews, and understands that not everything is a good spec sheet. This phone is a BIG drop compared to the Mi 10 pro. It is true that I was a big fan of Xiaomi, but this is no longer tolerated. It is better to pay a little more, but take a much more reliable phone that will have longer support, namely - Samsung. These Chinese manufacturers are raising their prices as opposed to quality. Oneplus is also an example of this

    Xiaomi should start creating a new skin which is more lightweight and close to stock (like Oxygen OS before). My Mi 10T (MIUI 12.5) vs OP8T (IOS 11) both have SD865 but the UI feels lighter with OP8T. So I decided to change my Mi 10T ROM from MIUI to PPUI 12 then the user experience became on par with OP8T.

    I for one, appreciated the rant.☺️. I am hearing the reason why the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is overheating is because they are being fabricated by Samsung and not TSMC.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks yes let's hope when it moves to TSMC it will improve. I'm not getting my hopes up but more holding out for the new Exynos to be good for once and the new Dimensity 9000 looks very interesting.

    Now that 3DMark Wild Life Stress Test is available, I hope manufacturers start using it to stress test their phones. They may limit the performance, let go the temp, whatever, just make sure the test passes. That way, they can still make differentiation between true flagship and gaming phone without overheating shit.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hopefully they just put more effort into the cooling and actually test them more. It's almost as if the team at Xiaomi rushed it out without even testing gaming on it for a few hours Or over 20 minutes.

    For some reason I really do trust this guy when it comes to reviews . It's just different that everyone else . When I want to get a proper opinion that's the channel of choice for me 100% . Now a quick question what phone are you using as your main phone and how often go you change your phone ?

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I use a Huawei Mate X2 70% of the time and also an iPhone 13 Pro Max. But I'm waiting on the Xperia 1 IV from Sony and that will be my new phone. I change phones about twice a year. But use many other phones during the year that I review. So my main phones aren't always in use as I would be testing other units out for my reviews.

    Had to get rid of my Mi 10 Pro as it was a company lease phone and got a OP 9 Pro to replace it. Very poor timing as all stock of the Mi 11 were sold out. I was just waiting for the Mi 12 Pro but I think I'll just stick with the OP 9 Pro for now even though its camera is nowhere near the Mi 10 Pro. Damn disappointing.
