I wish someone at Billboard would explain why "Basket Case" (Green Day), "Interstate Love Song" (Stone Temple Pilots), & "Black Hole Sun" (Soundgarden) is not on this chart.
It because at the time billboard only counted songs with an official commercial release. so even if a song was doing well on the radio it would not and could not chart

Based on what I heard on the radio as a kid in 1994 (I was 7), I’m mostly shocked that The Sign by Ace of Base was so low. Very happy to see Boyz II Men on top as it should be
The Sign was losing it's heat around that time in 94. It was number one around spring/summer time of that year. I was 16 years old back then. God I'm old.

Actually The Sign was the number 1 song of the 1994 HOT 100!!! It was totally a SMASH HIT in the 94 spring in the US and around the world in the summer as well, Ace of Base was in the top 10 for a whole year, with All that she wants/The Sign/Don't Turn around, greatest artist of 1994!

I remember hating that mellow RNB that dominated back then... The mariah/babyface/boyziimen sound... I still cant get through any of those songs... I loved the rock songs that some would call alternative though , so this countdown is quite the mismatch of good and bad nostalgia for me.

"Love is all around" was really overplayed that summer.
It did reach # 41 at its peak on the Billboard 100. We were too busy listening to all the other crap you've seen on the recap unfortunately because it was a good version of the song.
