Billboard's Top 200 Songs by Peak - 1988
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 2 ก.ค. 2024
- This video presents the Top 200 songs of the year 1988, ranked by peak, not points. Please note that to be eligible for this chart, the song did not necessarily have to be released or charting in 1989, but reach its peak position that year. For instance, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison did spend one week at #1 in 1989, but its peak date was in late 1988, so it is included only in this year's countdown.
Ties between songs were broken by considering these criteria, in order: weeks in the Top 10, weeks in the Top 40, and weeks on the entire Hot 100 Singles chart. However, the video only shows total weeks on the Hot 100, as that would have been too much information in such short time each song has.
This channel does not own the songs and the video has been created for research/information purposes. If you like a song, please visit the official artist channel or purchase/stream the song on your favorite platform.

My year. Will always be my year musically with my favorites. I loved 1987-1988 and still do.
These songs represent so many seasons of my life! Had no idea they were all from one year. Probably the best year of my life (so far).
so many songs over 100 i thought for sure would be in the top 100. goes to show how much good music the late 80s pumped out
Amazing year of music!! The soundtrack of my military service in Germany!! Thank you so much hot music charts for such a great work of putting all these together and for bringing back such awesome memories!! Music like these is rare these days!!
George Michael ruled that year!
George Michael RIP. Voice of an angel.
❤️🌹

This is awesome. I wish someone would do one with every peak. Then do one for every peak on the pop stations and each billboard chart thereafter. That be awesome.
All of these music on air the time i was born year 1988.
I was born on July 24, 1988. What about you?
2088 Anyone?
Awesome songs! This video brings back a lot of great memories!
Very few stinkers in that top 200. Do this for today's music and very few good songs. Good job on the video
A big Amen to that!!😊😊
Going Back 34 Years
What year, what competition - MJ and GM give out the best and they are not in the first place, and among them the rejuvenated "dinosaur" George Harrison,
88 magic number, infinite music about infinite love
Such great music and such great talent. All big superstars. There’s not one song on this list I don’t remember. I follow the charts very closely. But I really did not expect Steve Winwood’s “Roll With It” to be number one out of all those good ones!
these videos are a real treat !!!

Oh my goodness! Too many memories!! Takes me to American Top 40 with either Casey Kasem or Shadoe Stevens. Classic video!!!
Excelente video. Este canal es lo mejor
So interesting once again 💜👍
Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind 💜
Of all the 8 years in a decade this is the best. 1998, 2008, & 2018 could never compete (unless they're remixed).
2028 to 2888.
all these iconic songs and I can't believe I have never heard the #1
Seriously, you never heard number 1.
George Michael
Lot of great songs! Memories of 9th and 10th grade, and starting to drive.
How did ‘Push It’ peak at 19?! I remember it being the most played song. Also, Suave’s ‘My Girl’ brings back memories!! Funny that I only recognize about 75% of the songs even though I was a total top 40 junkie!
TIFFANY LA MEJOR INTERPRETE ADOLESCENTE DE FINALES DE LOS '80
"LA PRINCESA DEL POP"
💖😍
No, esa es Debbie Gibson
Great year for music
O primeiro sucesso de kylie Minogue, i should so Lucky, ganhou uma versão em português, acho que eu sou louca da cantora paulista simony, já na adolescência
Awesome list, just wish artists like Dan Reed Network, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, & Bardeaux would have been mentioned. Seemed like you start at #35 every single year though from what I see...
List is hit or miss until the top 35! All top 35 are really good songs!
interesting chart.
1983-87 please
E a debbie Gibson está nesta lista, com duas músicas próprias de seu disco de estreia
I own every single one of these on vinyl records.
The cover version from 4:54-5:00 -- #152, and from 15:30-15:36-- #46 The Loco-Motion
Rick roll 19:35-19:42 #5
There were a lot of cover tunes here, like “Red Red Wine”
Can you give a time stamp for the song My Girl?
Some of these are classics! I honestly believe that any artist that could remix/ convert some of these songs into something modern would be a huge hit. Sure you may need to share royalties to the original artist, but its a win win. If the song isnt known by the current generations, it would bring it back into circulation. Im just saying... I would listen to these songs in a new genre, new sound, or remix version. I dont know the headache of trying to get permissions, but these songs would be popular if a good singer/ artist could do something with it.
THAT SAID, i also think if someone made a tik tok of a song (which is known to happen) from this list, it would also bring it back into circulation. It's been known to happen to fleetwood mac, among other artists (sorry i dont use tik tok). I love music, and even i havent heard some of these songs before.
Alot of these songs are new to me, and although i dont see myself buying them for my ipod any time soon, i do think that if a modern artist were to cover them (or better, remix it) it could be a hit on the radio. Like i said above, it would draw attention to a old song, and possibly bring it back into popularity and circulation.
From continental Europe, I didn't know Pet shop Boys Rick Hastley or Kylie had many hits in USA. I thought they were one hit wonders over there. Also surprised by Samantha Fox 'Naughty girl' as n°3.
Out of all of those songs,I only liked 45 of them.
Malditos finales de los 80s me rickrollearon tres veces😂
Belle époque 1988
I didn't know Swing Out Sister had a second top 40 hit
They had many in the U.K. , the Amercian market was as usual to slow to catch on
After: Kim Hart - Love At First Night
and the number 1 winner of top 200 of 1988 goes to steve winwood roll with it
Hate that song back than. I still do.
Steve Winwood!
Best written song on this list is Check It Out by John Mellencamp & it’s not close
Y'all made this whole video just to Rick roll us all.
Number 149 is incorrectly listed as 145 (the list goes 150 - 145 - 148 - 147 - 146 - 145)
Great songs and bad haircuts galore!
After the 1st 50 I only know 10 of these songs, the next 20 I know 10, the next 30, 10
which means you sh ou old start listening to all the music from the whole decade I was born in the 70s which means I grew up listening to the 1980s music I love it there a re e only a few I'm not very familiar with
Barry David I was born in ‘70.....grew up in the ‘80s.....married in the early ‘90s. I’m not stupid
king duddude who the heck said you were stupid
Did i just get Rickrolled by the top of the Thumbnail?
Can you do Spotify playlists?
Before: Beautiful Aching Cher Like
Rather interesting that most of the top 200 songs were top 10 hits and the top 100 all hit #8 or higher. Usually, in the top 100 songs of the years, there are a few songs that never made the top 10 and often a few that never made the top 20. Also interesting that only one song was #1 for 4 weeks and only two were 31 for three weeks and many spent one week at #1.
It was such an awesome year for music; from someone who lived it I validate your comment!!
Killie minogue parece que se saco la loteria esa mina cuando canta debe tener millones guardado
What a gaudy year
How is Father Figure not on the list?
This is inaccurate: I listened to the "American Top 40' end of year countdown for the Billboard 100 singles in 1988 and #3 was George Harrison Got My Mind Set On You, #2 was INXS Need You Tonight, #1 was Faith George Michael. I even recorded it on tape (yes, actual cassettes) so I remember it well
@underzero26 I stand corrected
thats the official year ender which is actually based on points system depending on the songs hot 100 performance, this list is based on the songs peak position
The video description explains well the criteria for this countdown, so different from the actual year end chart of the Billboard Hot 100.

Paul Carrack is son Phil Collinse?)
haha....Kind of interesting because he was in the same band as Phil Collins' band mates in Genesis.
Father Figure should have been 1 One More Try 2 Faith 3
That’s odd, i dont remember the top two songs at all!
What a weak year. OOF.
Uno que otro tema famoso universalmente ,la selección los sacaron del B del single ,música que nunca pegó en Latinoamérica.Pesimo trabajo.Fome
To many rock songs you put in which we’re minor hits , I think you are basing it on your own tastes rather then the real chart
This is the real chart. All songs are ranked by their Billboard peak.
Taylor Swift is nothing more than a wannabe Debbie Gibson
Only after watching this have I realised that 1988 was one of the worst years for music
Well compared to today"s music, which is garbage, 1988 is one of the best years in music
@@patcrites5274 so that's a fair enough point
One of the worst years for music
Lot of good songs.
Meh.. there were still some real treats!
Debbie Gibson.
1989 was way worse but 1988 is at least still filled with interesting hits and artists were still trying unlike 1989 which introduced you know Milli Vanilli.
You spelled 1988 was very good tear in music, there I fixed it for you
Много мусора..стоящего мало..
