Not sure if anyone got this feeling, but ARR, apart from being the greatest musician and a great soul, has also become a big industrialist. Like many in the film industry, he could have just shifted to Mumbai but chose to stay back in Chennai. Many big names have traveled to Chennai. It would have brought so much income to the city. Many people would have benefited, including airlines, airports, taxis, hotels, restaurants, and local musicians. Chennai and Tamil Nadu should be very thankful to ARR for reasons beyond music, I guess.

To me the moment of the day in this video was RM mentioning about ARR introducing 50 -60 singers to the industry which opened up and encouraged lot of youngsters to learn music and singing which I believe is a great service he did to music lovers and the best part is he gives them a break and he brings in a fresh breed of singers after 3-4 years which no music director has done till date in the history of Indian cinema

When it comes to Guru songs, people talks about 'tere bina', 'barso re megha' and other marvellous melodious songs. But there is another hugely underrated ghazal in this movie which people hardly talks about and that is - 'Ay Hairathe Aashiqui'. Not too many knows the fact that ARR has also composed some really beautiful ghazals in chaste urdu (in this case Gulzar Sahab) over these years during his illustrious career. And 'Ay Hairathe Aashiqui is one of them. Hariharan singing is another feather in the cap, beautiful voice tailor crafted for Ghazals.
Another amazing episode featuring Menon. I really hope and pray that 'O2india' gets far more subscribers. But alas in these times of instant gratification, where utter worthless songs gets millions and millions of views, people are not appreciating genuine good channels and music. Sad state of affairs. Folks somehow spread the word so that 'O2india' gets the due appreciation which it really really deserves. 🙏
Exactly I felt the same. Ay hayirathe stands as my favourite till date. Hariharan ji sang it so well. It's an impeccable song.
Yeah, Ay Hayirathe may have been asked but I think the reason it is skipped is because it is not part of the movie and only there for the album. So, is another very beautiful song which is even more underrated than this in the same album ‘Shauk hai’, the song for the handicapped Vidya Balan’s character which I remember is also filmed a bit. But it is one of those rarest of the rare Rahman’s gems that had gone unnoticed by many.
At least, Ay hayirathe is remembered well by many but this other song had such gloomy tones to it that it brings tears to me everytime I hear it. In terms of a pathos song, this song can be compared to TuhiRe, Bombay theme music or the likes of Ae ajnabi songs as all other songs of Guru have very high energy and joyful feel to it except this one song for an off beat character in the movie.

The movies you mentioned are original or dubbing movie?
They are the dubbed titles in Telugu but the music was so classic that it was a huge hit everywhere down south. My fav album 💿 is Priyuraalu Pilichindi. Every song is such a masterpiece in this album!

When we talk about singers making a huge cut under ARR … we need to definitely remember and pay homage to the superstar singer Late Swarnalatha ( brilliant National Award Winner) who ARR liked very much for her voice , but she passed away early in life

@@pank-7423 some big names can be involved there were few singer at that time u can guess who sang 1st version
@@bijoydas7675 If you know it then tell us. No point in speculation if it was a big singer because neither Rahman nor any established singer will tolerate this. It can only happen with budding new singers that their voice gets dubbed by someone else. Also in 2006-07 there were quite many newer singers in scene unlike the 90s so your analysis seems incorrect.
@@O2india Sir in your own episodes it was clear that some other singers dubbed other singers songs. Like Javed Ali sang Guzarish after Sonu Nigam sang it. Even Chithra ji indirectly mentioned in your own interview that her songs from Bombay were dubbed by North Indian singer (Kavita Krishnamurthy) in the Hindi version. So no point in hiding this detail as well. As audience we deserve to know what Rahman sir did and what was his thought process

Mayya Mayya was done with an Arab singer! Who would even be able to tell the difference from the rendition in the movie that what challenges Rahman took and made things happen! Salute to his deep and unwavering patience! Mayya Mayya taught me and my friends in Bangladesh a whole lot of things that other type of Bombay industry musics was not able to render up to that point. We heard a horse raging in our nerves while listening to this song. Wonderful work.

Why can't u add kaviperarasu vairamuthu ♥️bcz he was one the pillar in rahman music along with maniratnam they made new wave in cini music like roja, Bombay, raavanan, muthu, sangamam, kadal, alaipayuthey, thiruda thiruda, minsara kanavu, mudhalavan, rhythm, iruvar, kandukondein kandukondein... also vairamuthu won most national award for lyricists and also many more awards to his credit.... unfortunately the irreplaceable legend kavingar vaali was not with us but he was lyricists for Rahman's most popular and memorable songs like mukabla, urvasi , Mustafa, mube vaa and many more ♥️he was also known for his collaboration with ilayaraaja in mouna raagam , thalapathi , Anjali ...he is known for his contribution to cini music of more than 50 years
Rahman left association with Vairamuthu after the Me Too allegation. So it doesn't look practical enough to bring Vairamuthu on board now.

Yes, AR Rahman has given many singers opportunity to sing and Grow musically on All India scene. It is a fact that Chinmayee, Naresh Iyer, Antara Nandi , Mohit Chouhan, Rakshita Suresh etc came to limelight after association with ARR. Some great singers like Chita ji, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh, Alka Ygnik had their some very popular numbers with ARR. Wish him many more laurels and he keeps us music lovers enthralled with his compositions.
One disagreement - Mohit was pretty popular with his indie pop hit of 1999-2000, 'Dooba Dooba'. It used to be played on MTV and Channel V a million times, those days.

With this specific episode featuring Guru, I was expecting the answer to why didn't "Shauq Hai" release with the album, but alas it didnt' address it
In general, there are several BGM nuggets that haven't been part of albums (most of them aren't fully rendered songs). The track "Sitaron se aage jahaan aur bhi hai" from Dil Se, in particular is underrated and unreleased
Perhaps an episodes on Rahman's India movie BGMs:
Those like "Bose -The Forgotten Hero" which extensively makes up the album, and
those gems (like Swades BGM, and the above 2 from Guru and Dil Se) which do not feature in albums at all
yes, quite agree with you regarding Shauk hey. 🙏Every time it gets tears in my eyes whenever I listen to this one of the most underrated yet amazing gems of A. R. Rahman. The way the composition starts make a lullaby and slowly gets you into pathos is very unusual of a sad song that I ever heard by any music director. The entire album of Guru on one hand and this one groovy song on the other for me personally. Unfortunately, as other songs have received incredible attention owing to their impeccable picturisations, this song had been conveniently pushed out of the radar as always! You don’t need to watch Vidya Balan act or enact this song but just listen to this song and you will fall more in sympathy with her character in the movie regardless of how great her performance is on-screen! That’s the unusual Magic of this underrated song. 🎵🎵

I've been following this series since inception.
Specifically mentioned about BGMs, which don't find place in the respective albums, but only in the movies.
Sometimes one prominent BGM score would find its way in the albums (Spirit of Rangeela, thump of Daud, etc,) but some of BGM composition were/are only available on the respective movies.
Particularly in Dil Se, this BGM with accompanying vocals by Sukhwinder ("Sitaron se aage jahaan aur bhi hai") doesn't find mention. In fact it was quite an effort to track down the lyrics which turns out to be from an old nazm.
And in Guru it is quite puzzling why "Shauq Hai" wasn't part of the album. Since it's technically a "full song", it's accessible on TH-cam and other audio streaming services. Still don't know why they would drop such a great song from the official album.
I mentioned Bose in the context of doing a sole episode just on BGMs by ARR.
Bose is a standout album in the sense that almost ALL the BGM used in the movie, finds its way in the official album and the BGM tracks are more than songs. I would loved a mention of his collaboration with some of the Bengali singers (like Nachiketa) whose vocals are layered with Sonu Nigam's in the song "Tanha Rahi/Ekla Chalo" in Bose. The song reminded me of the "O ri chhori" composition from Lagaan in the sense how 2 songs were fused seamlessly.
But I digress. Main context is BGMs and the missing "Shauq Hai" in Guru.
Admire your efforts to create this series for more than a year. Please keep the good work going.
