At last a beginners tutorial that’s actually for beginners. I am just starting, first time painter at 54. I learned so much from this thank you! Plus I just love that it’s okay to use a drawing as a base, for those of without a natural talent but lots of enthusiasm .

I have many many turtorials that are for beginner beginners as well as intermediate artists. The reason we started the beginner painting course was to get our members to where they can paint some of the intermediate paintings. We hope the course helps you get there. In the meantime, you can go to our website and check out all our 1 hoot paintings here theartsherpa.com/ Just click on videos, then the 1 hoot link 💛

I just ran into your comment. After a year are you still pursuing art and painting and are you successful like you may have expected?
I'm 66 and dabbled in art throughout my life but not painting. I'm wanting to give it a shot.
What are my odds? Since you started late as well? Lol

My husband Geoff has cancer and I’m his care giver and also my sister is in a facility. My painting has been on hold. Today has been fun watching you. I’m retired. Other than a few arts and crafts with my kids at church for the children’s ‘sermon’ I’ve done. And at, sometime it turn out really good, better than I could imagine. Lots of teachers online but some move to quickly. Some speak the language of the artist but fail to adequately define the words. You are one of the best. Thank you for sharing your talent in a down to earth 🌎 manner. You also show us things we can be successful in doing on the first try! May not be the best leaf or rose, and your husband may think it’s an abstract. Lol 😆!!! Thanks . Look forward to all your lessons and getting stuff done. I had to retire in 2014 for medical disability and I thought painting was something I could or would excel in. Did what you shouldn’t do of course. Went out to Micheals Crafts and stared buying out the acrylics and water color aisle. Stayed away from oils as I heard it was difficult to master, like the others would be a breeze. I’ve always wanted to paint and thought I’d be good. Finding you here may help my wishes come true..

Thanks for a great tutorial for real beginners! I've been doing watercolors for a couple years and decided to try acrylics. You covered everything I didn't know I didn't know about acrylics, from squeezing the paint out of the tube and getting it on the brush to putting it on the paper, and cleaning up afterwards--all the media-specific topics you absolutely need to know but everyone else assumes you already do. And you even covered painting leaves! This is the very first acrylic tutorial I watched and I'm so glad I found it. Thanks again.

This is a fabulous tutorial and full of the types of tips I was looking for! So many times I get hung up on seemingly tiny things like, "Is this too much paint to put on my paintbrush?" and "Is this the right way to blend these things together?" - Thank you for making this so easy to follow!

Thank you so much for your video. I didn't start trying to paint till late in my sixties and was on the verge of giving up as I felt my work was far too 'flat'. However I have learnt so much from watching this and you have inspired me to keep trying. Your words are so encouraging and I now know that I CAN do it.
    Thank you again 💕

Fantastic video for any beginner, like myself. I have always wanted to try painting, but was one who let, "intimidation," get the best of me. However, I am determined to try. So, here goes. It just so happens I was gifted paints for Christmas. So excited and a little nervous. I appreciate your words of wisdom. You are amazing at instructoring!

I have been fortunate enough to "stumble" across a couple of your videos now. Love them! so clear and concise filled with info I need to know as an absolute beginner at 74! Will be hunting out as many as I can find. My first couple of efforts have been hilarious and I've learnt a lot from making all those "mistakes". Definitely no Rembrandt, but loving the process.

Thank you for making this video! Like the person before me, I found this is exactly what I was looking for! During covid 19 quarantine I have been trying my first attempts at acrylic painting and have created a few works I am kind of proud of as a beginner but have a LONG way go and a lot to learn. The skills and knowledge you share here is super helpful!!! Glad you include things that maybe other painters know but beginners may not. Thank you again!

I just started a week ago. But I just dove rite in without knowing the preparation process. No one ever talked about canvass prep. Or wat a medium was or how to use it. Wetting the brush to make it flow better. So I just started. Couldn't figure out why my paint wasn't making thin lines. And Cleaning the brushes... I had no FREAKING clue. I " cleaned " them out I thought. But wen I went to paint my next one they wer hard and stiff . But they looked clean. I was wrong. You helped out alot. Oh and now I no more about brush control and position. You are a good teacher. I will be watching and learning more of your techniques. Thank you.
