- Fanatec has long been known for their sim racing products. In recent years they have really stepped things up with the addition of the Clubsport level of products. The latest component to enter this family is the Clubsport Shifter SQ. This is an all metal 7 speed plus reverse shifter that also features a sequential mode at the flip of the switch. In this review we examine the shifter from every angle inside and out. We hammer on it lap after lap and let you know how well it performed.

Bewr Wadf Yes!!! I still watch that channel cause I feel like there isn't another channel that produces as much news about sim racing. However Shaun's x partner is so unprofessional it's horrible. That poor kid he has working over there must hate him. How could he not?
The kid constantly gets interrupted every show with some non show related personal bull shit. I know the kids thinking "shut the F up you arrogant self absorbed old man. Nobody gives a shit you have a dog. No body gives a shit what color you painted your bathroom.

People are watching for the sim racing topic not to here you ramble on about TV shows you watch with your wife... I shouldn't even know anybody's name in your family but I do.. all of them... how could that happen?

Shaun's x partner just uses the show and channel to fulfill his narcissistic need to be paid attention too.

In this review, It seemed that you were really rushing and your review might appear to be not so authentic to some. Perhaps slow down in your review and give actual examples from your testing experiences when delivering your review (i.e. is it actually worth the money, what are this shifter's competition etc.). Other than that you're doing a great job and I look forward to your future content! Subscribed!

Just a small note regarding 7th-gear at 3:35 minutes. The CSW is the only wheel to support 7th gear when it is hooked up to the wheel directly. But yes, in all other cases the USB adapter is needed.
So, why did Shaun leave ISR?? I really hope it wasn't because of that "drama" with Darin and that Daytona race.
Man these wheels and accessories are getting into ridiculous pricing ranges these days. There is no way that shifter costs a fraction of the price, they are asking for it, to make. Thing like that shouldn't ever cost more than 70€, and definately not more than 100€.
But it is a good shifter, can't get around that.

I wanted to buy this until I saw the price. Then I saw you have to buy a $20 adapter to make it USB direct and the cables are stupidly short. Finally, most shifter plates are not predrilled for these either.
Another reviewer took the shifter apart and noted that Fanatec is charging waaay more than it is worth .
I'll stick with the Thrustmaster shifter which comes with all the cables already and they actually REACH my computer or base. For about $86 less. This is $200, then $16 for shipping then another $16 for the usb adapter... $236 from Fanatec... or $150 for Thrustmasters with free shipping and usb cable included for free.
I've had one of these for a few months now. It's definitely worth the price. I really have no negatives to add beyond what Shaun stated. I had to modify my Obutto shifter arm/plate to fit it at the proper driving position, but it was easy enough and now I have a 100% perfect position for wheel, pedals, and shifter. Get this shifter, you won't regret it.
Will SimPit accept advertising from products they review or from competing products?
+espcsg I heard the main changes with the V1.5 were purely for reliability rather than changing anything the consumer would notice while playing. Does anyone know if this is true? It seems almost every review is of the V1.0.
nice review,but try to tighten the adjustment screw to have a solid resistance in H mode, its useless in seq then,since the spring is not strong enough and the gear lever does not jump out anymore from up or downshift

I prefer my reverse gear to be at the bottom right not the top left, so my question is can this shifter be used 180 degrees from normal position and the gears be remapped. Ie 6tg would be 1st, 5th would be second and so on, if this can be done how does it feel when changing gear. And does this cause any problems. Cheers Shaun
Nice review, but some feedback: The audio feels like you have used a compressor or limiter on it and it's going a bit aggressive. Sometimes your voice comes in too loud, then fades away. Not sure what is going on. Also your voice feels too shouty the entire time, it kind of wore me out a little, like an ad on TV or Radio, especially with that song in the background. Felt the editing and the way the info was fed was also just too fast.
Anyways, just my opinion.
How is the sequental mode compared to other dedicated sequental shifters like DSD shifter?
Would be nice if the shifter had ffb when you grind gears

Shaun, how would you compare this shifter with the TH8RS? Would you recommend this as a significant upgrade to that? Or would you say its marginal?

The non-SQ edition of this shifter does not have the slight rotation problem.

Great review Shaun. I'm thinking of selling my TH8RS and DSD Pro seq. for one of these bad boys. The TH8RS is just too weak and the DSD too loud.
***** It's not as light as the G25/7, but it's not as heavy as any real car, especially not an older race car. I have the TH8RS but i'm thinking of replacing it with this Fanatec one since it just looks better in my opinion.

For those of us who don't have access to demo all these great products, how would you compare them to a TH8 or DSD sequential? Or even Frex? I know you've had the chance to experience these products so I'm curious how they stack up against each other. I know there's lots of scenarios to consider.. The budget minded consumer who can only purchase one shifter for all types of racing.. Those who focus on open wheel only, oval only, etc.. Those who want to create the most realistic sim possible.. So with those variations in mind, how would you rate or compare? Thanks!

What cockpit is used in this video?
For those interested in swapping out the included knob for an aftermarket example, the CSS rod features M12 x 1.25mm threading, which isn't a particularly common thread pitch. Available, but not universal by any means.
I had a guy on eBay fabricate a knurled 1 lb. knob for about $30 (vs. $100+ from a name brand), and it works very well.

The Thread should be 10x1.5. on the Shifter. My AUDI/VW Golfball fits on it.

Thank you very much for this review. I eventually got this & am very happy with it. Before I had the Thrustmaster TH8A & found it very loose & the throw far too long. I tightened the gear shifting & even got the Ricmotech adapter to shorten the throw but I still did not like the feel. I also did the rubberband mod to strengthen the neutral zone & gear changing but it did not make much difference imo. The Clubsport shifter is better as it is not only more solid but also gives better feel when changing gears. Expensive though especially here in Europe but a worthy upgrade compared to the TH8A if that is not performing for you.
Will this fit my Honda?
I have one of these since it was launched a couple months back. I am completely loving it, it is really an super solid realistic feel shifter! Very solid feedback in the shifts, both H-gate and sequential. Geat review Shaun! :)
Try a shifter from ACT-Labs , has 7 gears with no lock out , but reverse is top left spot , the gate is close .
I want one :)
I love the industrial looking design. This and Clubsport V2 pedals are my next purchases :)

this whole review is just so over the top its almost confusing. the explaining of the gear changes is like hes reading a short story and trying to be over dramatic. do not want. super detailed i guess ucould call it. but completely unnecessary.
Do not buy this shifter, had problem within a year sent back to fanatec for repair had to pay for shipping. one week later the problem start again. Apparently the shifter is badly designed. Don't waste your money.

John Moore Its actually a fairly commonly recognized issue with fanatec that they have sometimes build quality issues. RMA is common enough. Doesn't take a fan boy to recognize that.
Fair enough. I actually ended up going with the th8a over the Fanatec because of price, and the fact that not every sim racer has an aluminium frame in their house to mount it to lol
John Moore I'm going to end up going with the TH8A simply because I can't get the Fanatec in Canada for less than double the price to Americans.
i never bought the th8a in the end. i just stretched some rubber bands over the shifter to make the stick bounce back out of 3rd and 4th :P

wow. really dislike the style of this show. why is shaun so hectic? Is there a max time limit on a video you need to cram everything in it. You dont need to speak in fast forward and shout like we cant hear you. Relax man, and speak like normal, not this TV-Teleshopping style.
The only thing missing from this style of doing the show is a telephone number at the side of the view and announcement: "Aaaaaaaannd if you order now, you get a free ticket for disney world. But thats not all. If you order within the next hour, we will add a pen, and a fanatec lighter to your order...."
