I did this to my C6 on jackstands. I just rotated the ac condenser and radiator up far enough to get the cam in as well as remove the rack to get the balancer off and on. What a pain it was
Loving this project garage content guys. It Reminds me of grassroots content, and why I started watching all those years ago. This year hasn't been easy for the viewers, and I can only imagine what it's been like for everyone at Hoonigan, but I sure am glad to see that everyone seems to be doing pretty well. Also stoked to watch some Gymkhana Grid in the near future! Keep up the rad content and keep wrenching!
I've been working at an auto store. And people ask me what the difference between spark plugs and their ratings. I allways have to ask them. Well, it depends. Are you just driving your car daily, or are you building something special. I always wanna help if it's a build because I know how it is. I have 3 builds and now 4 builds. Each one was a pain to get tuned, but I can confirm spark plugs will change the way the engine runs. Spark plugs with iridium low Temps are great for stop and go traffic, but then they have the iridium gold iridium, and those are a little different. Multipoint ignition for e85, and as for nitromethan, I would recommend dual spark ignition to ensure firing is constant across all rpm ranges. Needless to say, most customers are not building time attack monsters, but for the few who are, they ended up leaving with some goodies we hide behind the counter. One guy even got a crate motor.
I have a c7 so maybe it’s different but when I did my crank bolt (Procharged my vette) you just had to remove the entire steering rack, sway bar, basically the front suspension but it’s pretty easy, instead of dropping the subframe and stuff.
No it’s the same for c6, I had to do mine too because of the infamous crank hub wobble. Idk why he did all that lmao it’s really not bad at all to remove the steering rack
@@nickmackin Thanks for confirming on the C6’s! And yeah i dont know, I’m a hobbyist mechanic at best, Zach knows way more than me lol I’ve never done a cam or even pulled heads off an engine but I was watching it and thinking man I did my crank bolt way easier than Zack did😂
Why would the C6 be your favorite generation?! I mean I like um too but definitely not my favorite generation! The C4 is my favorite generation but the C7 is definitely a better corvette than the C6! @@C4VETTELT1 The valve dropping issue was actually due to an extremely minor (yet still impactful) manufacturing error by one of the suppliers for the valves. It was actually discovered to be that the error was so minute and would only actually cause an issue in a very small amount of the engines tht were produced in tht time, in the already small pool of engines that were made in tht time frame. SavageGeese has a video where they interview some of the top engineers that worked on corvettes in the past coupole generations. Basically there was a small time frame in which the manufacturing was confirmed to have the issue, yet even in those affected in tht time frame only a fraction of those actualy had an issue. The thing is, the corvette is so mass produced that the pool was big enough for enough people to talk about it and for it to be a valid concern when looking into one. That being said, most of them that are still on the road today have already had tht fixed or never had the issue to begin with. work in progress on my z06. I found it a lot easier to just slide the steering rack out the passenger side to get at the HB. wish I had the tools to drain the AC. separating the condenser/rad was BRUTAL
Thanks for sharing Zac! Question for you…do you lose CA emissions with the BFD cam installed? I’m itching to put a cam in my LS7, but worried about CA emissions. I appreciate it, thanks!
If you’re worried about ca emissions then sell the LS7 lmao. Find a guy to smog it “legally” and don’t get state reffed or you gotta keep it stock or move out
So most times the middle flow numbers are more important where they spend most their time at in normal driving. A big high number doesn't mean always best if it don't do crap below that
I didn't know that about Zach but isn't that also basically how Gary got a job at hoonigan? Just kept turning up and hanging out until one day they offered him a job
I am redoing my 90 Corvette. I am looking for a 2003-2007 5.3 to rebuild, put 243 heads, bigfoot cam, shortie heads " i know... I know. Yhe only problem I'm having is that it is almost impossible to find people to do the work here on Maui. People be lazy AF here.
Now that you will fail smog in CA if you run a tune, how can this possibly pass smog? You've got to test every 2 years...sold my 07 Mustang right before the law changed, had lots of mods but the cam was just mild enough I could run the stock tune to pass smog. Figured it out at the end... the car is registered in Utah.
Meanwhile LS fan boys think engines with overhead cams are difficult to work on... ohc for the win. I don't care who makes it. They are better in every way. This is further proof.
Ok pushrod V8's with crossplane crankshafts sound good when built and tuned well when they are rarely a high compression specimen and they make decent low end torque. But that's it. Everything else will be better achieved with overhead cams.

Not the "CHOP" i was expecting. Maybe when people say "CHOP" I'm still thinking OLD SCHOOL "CHOP"
Old school was referred to as LOPE. As a result of the valve overlap on a performance cam.
