    The hi-power, my first, and still my favorite handgun. I don’t have an Inglis , but have two Brownings, and the latest Turkish clone. No other handgun has ever felt so right in my hand.

    Awesome someone does a review on the high power. I have my grandpas high power made in the original Belgium factory... never had an issue with it even after the multiple thousand rounds now 3 generations have shot it. Arguably one of the most reliable guns out there in my opinion.

    Never seen a close up of the Inglis. I am very fond of my 1994 vintage Mk 3 (made in Belgium/assembled in Portugal). Better sights- 3 vertical hash marks instead of 3 dots. Very accurate with good ammo, and easy to fieldstrip. Never liked mag disconnectors, but what can u do? JMB and Saive definitely got it right.

    the browning hi power I qualified on had some form of Asian marking on it. and most of the hi powers we have in service are old as hell . but as long as you get a newer mag you're still good to go. the old mags jam like crazy

    I've always wanted one of these pistols. And there's thousands of them sitting in storage that would be prime items for surplus. Problem is, the Canadian gov't will never sell surplus guns to its citizens.

    • @NovaScotiaNewfie
      @NovaScotiaNewfie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Grizz Axxemann even if they did since it's still in service no chance of seeing it on the civilian market unless they have been phased out. But I think they would just be destroyed when that happens.

      Grizz Axxemann They won't destroy them. You think the current Liberal gov is gonna budget for new small arms to replace old tech? The Harper goon squad sure as hell didn't. They themselves bought cheap surplus crap for the CF.

    It's never occurred to me until just now... how reliable are high powers? I have very limited real world experience with one... I'm a huge 1911 guy, and to me the hi-power is just a work of art to behold. But I've never any reliability tests on one... But I've never seen one choke either. Just wondering.

    • @burmiester1
      @burmiester1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They're some of the most reliable handguns ever made. The British were using Hi-Powers as their standard military sidearm until like 2007.

  • @Ranger32b
    @Ranger32b 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Inglis Hi-Powers in Mint shape are somewhat rare - esp. ones with the "lend-lease' ( China - Russia - Canada ) decal which appears to be on the grip ( although not intact ) Shooting this gun just devalues it and will certainly cause the rest of the decal to come off. Appears to be a 4T series so it is a mid- production gun - highest series is 9T. They were NEVER made for private purchase from Inglis. Be interesting to find out it's background and why it was unfired ( until now. )

    Thanks reviewing a Canadian made firearm. Not to bad for a pistol made between 1944 and 1945. Still in use by the Canadian military. Most issues with the pistol is worn out mags and inexperienced operators. Review a C7/C8 if you could. Keep up the good work.

    • @NovaScotiaNewfie
      @NovaScotiaNewfie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maus46 simply a Canadian version. It's a Hi Power made here. Just as the C7 and C8 is a Canadian licensed version of the M-16/M-4. We didn't reinvent the wheel. We would probably have a new pistol but the Feds 86'ed the contract. Still using WWII era pistols pathetic.
      I miss my C7A1.

    • @Maus46
      @Maus46 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      NovaScotiaNewfie We didn't reinvent the wheel but perfected it. The C7A2 is huge improvement and a better platform than the m4/m16. First class service rifle that even the Sas and many other countries use.

    • @NovaScotiaNewfie
      @NovaScotiaNewfie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maus46 Yes many countries did adopt it. I have heard about the differences. I'd have to shoot the M-16 A2 to compare it to the C7A1 I got to use in the Reserves. Rumour has a tendency to get out there and I don't assume it's fact.
      I'd like to own the C-7 AR from Diameco with the 20" barrel. I'm sure it could feel like my old rifle.

    I'm now unsure if my grandfather's Hi-Power is a genuine one or not. The Inglis markings are correct, the serial number starts with 5CH which means that it might be the Chinese contract version, it has adjustable sights, but it lacks the Chinese letters.

    Have 2 high Powers, one an Ingles cause I love it from my Canadian Army Days! Other is a Belgian made same mark #1 Mk2 you were shooting! Difference is which sight you drift Belgian is back and Ingles is front. The decal on the front of the frame means it was made for the Nationalist Chinese but never delivered! My last unit was issued some from national war stocks as when the order was not filled (fall of China to commies) they were put in war stocks! Decal in mint shape doubles the value of the handgun! Love shooting them but favorite is still the 226 Sig!

      The decal is the mutual aid decal. It spells out CANADA in English, Chinese and Russian. The Chinese pistols are CH serialled, everyone else has a T in the serial like this one. Great pistol. Took me 5 years to find a really nice 5T numbered pistol like I used in the Canadian Forces.

      @PROSTR33TZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Firstly the MPs Carry the P225. The P226 is issued to special units only, and it is likely to stay that way for a while. There is plenty of stock of Brownings still around in the CF and it will be a while before they replace such a vast quantity.

    British and FN Guns noted Inglis or Long Branch, are made in Canada. Many weapons of the British Army, Bren Guns, Sten Guns, Lee Enfield's were made in Canada. Inglis made the Bren and FN Hi Power. For Historian of WW2, those are the words to remember, it is carved Inglis Canada, or Long Branch on Canadian Guns. There are also other notable differences. Canada became a true country during WW2, having an army is one thing. Developing your own weapons, aircrafts and war machine is another. The British War machine was Canada. We must not let others destroy that in fear.

    He uses it in the Nepali bar shoot out. Its presumed he carries it for added firepower after the events of Temple of Doom (which acts as a prequel to Raiders). Since Inglis didnt begin production until 43 its a bit of an anachronism. Still cool though. Im guessing it was a stand in for a 1911. Ive read 9mm blanks were more reliable than 45s back in the day.

    plenty of CH inglis flotating around. T series are hard to find. i got my 2T about 15 years ago at a gun show for $400. the funny thing is T series are not really that expensive when they come up for sale. i think 7-800 is the going price.
    mine is a Navy Arms import. a small number of T series were brought into the US in the late 80s early 90s . i think they were Aussie or NZ surplus. the cH ones are usually beat up Chinese surplus. I do remember some CH models were sold after ww2 to the public. those would have no import mark.

    I don't like the way the gun feels in your hands... I have pretty big hands, so it's not that the gun is too big, I just don't like how thick the grip is and how light the barrel feels by comparison. It's hard to explain but it's essentially like picking up a thick stick with a little twig hanging off of it representing the barrel and upper frame of the gun. Of course this is over-exaggeration, but that's the sort of feeling I get when holding it. I much prefer the ergonomics and weight distribution of guns like the Luger (which displaces most of the weight near the center of the gun) and the P38 (which is a bit more top heavy). Either way, the grips are far sleeker and it feels a lot better when grabbing and pointing them. As for the ammo capacity, that's pretty much a non-argument for me seeing how thin both Luger and P38 mags are. One Hi Power mag is pretty much equivalent in thickness to two P38 mags and I much prefer to place my 8 shots tactically then reload as opposed to emptying out an oversized mag hurriedly and carrying around all the clunky hi power mags.

    Worst thing about it is the magazine disconnect. Wish it wasn't designed with it.

      You want a damn bet? The trigger pivot pin on MKIIIs are frozen before inserting.
      We had to make a graduated series of punches to force it out using a press. It won't come out with a hammer and punch on MKIII.

    • @NovaScotiaNewfie
      @NovaScotiaNewfie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clankplusm it was never stated. But the bulk if not all were made in the late 40's. Since the pistol is still production I assume they replace parts as needed, but I was not a weapons tech (armourer) so don't know the specifics.

      Yeah there was a dubiously stated no 2 mk1* variant in the 80s I've been trying to see if it's our current service pistol. the WW2 one was just the Mk1*. So guess that's the one.

    Sad to think Canada's going to part ways with their older Hi-Powers, mainly some that might even date back to WW2.

      From what I've heard they are so old that the bulk are worn out. At least the ones we have in the Reserves.
      I don't think they built past the 40's or 50's so the CAF stock is long in the tooth.
