The Browning 1935 High Power, probably the best all round, no frills, no nonsense, 9mm EVER PRODUCED, a MAN's gun, not a gun for the " Let's have every conceivable attachment possible on a handgun including a searchlight, grenade launcher, anti aircraft attachment, SOS flares, harpoon gun, and finally an exocet missile attachment". A no nonsense "Don't MESS WITH ME or you will DIE" gun, If the SAS approved it then it's good with me.

The High Power is, and has been for many years, been one of favorite handguns. Sadly, I sold mine to a friend who was desperate to get into the steel matches way back when. I had intended to replace it but just never got around to it, then the prices went up and it kept dropping in priority... now they are completely out of my price range. I had an extended safety on mine and had also removed the magazine disconnect (which improved the trigger pull considerably), since I want to be able to shoot my pistol at all times, from any position, including upside down with my pinky finger if necessary... which is why all of my 1911 pattern guns have the grip safety removed. Call me crazy but that's the way I like 'em!
Anyway, your High Power makes me jealous and I feel dumb for not replacing it when it was actually possible for me to do so.
    Rats!
    Cheers,
    jc

The HI Power 9mm was a formidable alternative to the 1911 in the early 1970's despite the Jeff Cooper fans claiming that it was a "sub-caliber" and inferior to the beloved 45-acp.
It fed ball ammo flawlessly, penetrated far better than the 45-acp, and had the appeal of good looks and pride of ownership, but revolvers were still king in many circles.
The Glock era of the mid-1980's changed everything. 9mm premium (hollow-point) ammo proved to significantly increase its effectiveness. Unfortunately hollow-point ammo did not work well with the HI-Power, and its popularity shifted quickly to other brands that were designed for the newer cartridges.
To this day, I would not trust a Hi-Power with my life unless it had ball ammo in a factory magazine not loaded to capacity.

I have two, and one is my EDC in winter when it's easier to conceal. The later ones (that aren't so collectable) are easily modified to be truly great shooters. They already have good sights, buy 15 round Mec-Gar mags, remove the trigger safety, and replace the thumb safety with an extended version and you have a pistol that will beat any modern gun.

Made the same mistake a couple years ago. I was getting a different pistol. Saw a nice High-power and picked it up to look at it but decided to not buy it and I never saw it again. I should have bought it.
I don't plan on making the same mistake again. To bad they are becoming more difficult to find these days.

I've got a 1942ish Nazi FN Hi power and it's my favorite gun I've ever fired. It had some extraction problems at first, but I replaced the extractor and haven't had a hang up since. It's crazy that an 80 year old pistol can be so reliable.

One of my favorite handguns of all time. I own 3,.. with one being a true blued model in .40 S&W. and one of the "El Capitan" real blued models with actual adjustable tangent sights on it, graduated out to a 100 meters I think, it was made for the Argentine Army I think, & other S. American country's.The third one is an FN Herstal model with the (SFS) system on on it where when you disengage the safety then the bobbed hammer automatically cocks to shoot, no cocked & locked carry. Then you just push the hammer towards the slide & the safety's automatically engages again. I've never seen another like it. I actually carry a Hi-power for concealed carry during cooler weather, living in Wisconsin that's a lot of the year ! It's Thee last ELOQUENT & most beautiful firearm ever made, and thee most comfortable handgun ever made. It becomes part of your arm as soon as you grasp it. I will never part with any of them, especially since they no longer make them. Very accurate & still in use in the world today in 2021. Pure love.

I had a Browning (FN) Hi Power back in the early '80s. It was solid, well made, & fit my hand perfectly. It also wouldn't feed hollowpoints, was finicky with flatnose if they were too flat, and had an atrocious trigger pull for a single action autoloader. I'd love to have another one, but only if FN has resolved those issues.

If you are pulling to the left, then it seems as though the trigger is slightly heavy. I have a Tokarev that has a trigger pull of about 10-15 lbs, I always pulled to the left. I cut a slot in the trigger leaf spring, polished the sear and now I’m doing fine.
