Going to Gajalee from last 16 yrs or more.....mostly to Vile Parle East Branch. Bombay Duck, Prawns Koliwada with Green chutney , must try Pomprate Koshimbir .....fish Tikka , Ghavne with chicken Curry and in the end curry with steam rice.....all this with sip of a thumps up.

My favored jaunt for lunch (12 yrs) as my H.O used to be next door! Besides what you aptly hogged, Mutton thali, pomphret slices, stuffed pomphret, Shimpli and wash it down with Sol Kadi were my go to meals! Good to see you binging at Ville Parle Gajalee! ✊🏽

Hi Kalyan, the bombil and the crab are definitely a must-have depending on one's budget. I agree, the crab is pricey, but thats what restaurants seem to charge for large mud crabs which are way more expensive as compared to sea crabs.
Gajalee is one of expensive restaurant specialized in sea food. Prices are surely not justifiable at all considering the fact that Mumbai receives fish in abundance. So freshness is assured all over in most of the sea food restaurants.

If you are willing to accept basic decor but high cleanliness then I would recommend 2 restaurants to you (1) Hotel Gomantak : Near Plaza cinema opposite Shivaji Mandir at Dadar West. This restaurant has been serving freshly made delicious sea food for decades. Recently, it has featured in Mark Wein's Vlog. (2) Hotel Poorva Pangat: Just two shops away from Hotel Gomantak

Aww so you are a Bombayite! Ville Parle Gajalee is where it all started. Every 3rd/ 4th day my meal used to be there since my office was in the neighborhood. All that you have hogged today used to be my favoured meal too PLUS Pomfret slices! Good seafood binge Kirpal..!!!
I have tried those fried pomfret slices earlier and they are delicious. In fact I was quite tempted to try the pomfret that came on the seafood tray, but it would have been too much for us. 😋
BTW, it was good you did not try what he exhibited. It was a Black Pomfret not a Silver one... and you jolly well know the difference between the two, Kirpal. ✊

That Tandoori crab is too expensive! Long ago, I used to stay in Vile Parle, very near to Gajalee and I have had Tandoori crab many times, but the price was pretty reasonable then. Rs.2957 is quite shocking!
Food looks great, but the cost for the carb is way too high.. This episode reminded me of a restaurant named Ritz at Panaji in Goa.. Sea food there is amazing, I think you should visit there once. Good job, thank you for introducing us to new places.
That size of mud crab costs around 700-800/- a KG... Considering all 2k is a reasonable price max., 2957/- is too much. I visited Gajalee in Pune 3 times, but didn’t taste crab by seeing that price tag. Clicked the pics of live crabs only 😁.. Tasted bombil, mandeli, surmai, prawns, lobster so far at Gajalee. There are other good seafood places to try in Pune namely Nisarg, Fish Curry n Rice and Mahesh Lunch Home. While Gajalee is into Malvani style, Mahesh lunch home is into Mangalorean style. Fish curry n rice is a Kolhapuri Malvani mix. Got a good deal for the mud crab once at Mahesh lunch home,Pune and had it.

Most popular seafood restaurants in Mumbai are Trishna, Mahesh Lunch Home, Gajalee, Apoorva and Sayaba. Any fish curry goes best with steamed rice and not with Ghavan or Rice Bhakri.
I would typically eat a fish curry with rice too, but I went with the server's reccomendation of the ghavan as I hadn't tasted it before. Went quite well with the curry, after all the ghavan is made of rice batter.
Hi Srinivasa, it is similar in the sense that both are made from a rice batter. But the ghavan doesn't use coconut milk like the neer dosa, I was told.

Any fish curry goes best with steamed rice and not with Ghavan or Rice Bhakri.
I would typically eat a fish curry with rice too, but I went with the server's reccomendation of the ghavan as I hadn't tasted it before. Went quite well with the curry, after all the ghavan is made of rice batter.

Hi Srinivasa, it is similar in the sense that both are made from a rice batter. But the ghavan doesn't use coconut milk like the neer dosa, I was told.
