I’m so glad to see dark cloud on here. It’s the game that really got me into gaming as a whole. It’s a shame Sony is keeping it locked up in their dungeon.
I'm currently working on my own version of the dark cloud series. The prototype name is called "Pendant". I want to include a lot of the dark cloud 2 mechanics such as weapon upgrading and evolving, town building, as well as the dungeon exploring. Some things I'd also like to add to make it different is being able to use magic that can be upgraded in a skill tree. As of right now, I've really only worked on it for like a month and I'm maybe 10% done with the coding so it will be a while. I'm hoping to have a playable version by next February, but really just a demo showcasing the main aspects. I currently do not have a storyline either so that will take some time too.
megamasher91 that’s awesome dude. You should share your progress on the subreddit or discord server as it get closer. Have this on ps2 even if I live in Europe. Guys, it's absolutely amazing. Countless hours of free roaming and kicking everything you see. Let alone the amazing story and the recruiting of hundreds of NPCs . Really one of the best RPGs on ps2. PS Amazing videos my friend, thank you for informing us about those gems!!! Do not stop and keep making us want to find games that we had forgotten!!! :)
Persona 3 (and 4) are definitely my favorite PS2 RPG's. Out of all the RPG's I've played, the characters in those games feel so real I almost forget I'm playing a game, rather it's like I'm living another life.
Radiata Stories is soooo good. Still have my physical copy. Colorful backgrounds, characters, branching story paths, many party setups, and tons of charm.
PS2 shines with unique RPGs, not necessarily the popular ones. My favorite PS2 RPG will definitely be Grandia 2. The story, the combat, the characters are so unforgettable (Grandia 3 and Grandia Xtreme are enjoyable, too). Legaia 2 has unique combo system unlike any other RPGs (even though Legaia on PS1 is better.) Xenosaga series has unparallel stories in all RPGs I have played (Margulis is arguably the best villain of all RPGs, Xenosaga I is best). Wild Arms series are decent with story and gameplay, how often we get western themed JRPG (WA5 hexagon tactical playstyle is incredible. Shadow heart series are incredible, let's forget the 4th the new world entry (I cried at the bad ending of the original shadow heart.) Dark cloud series is another favorite, I am still getting 8 abilities on all weapons in the Dark Cloud 1 (Level 5, where is the Dark Cloud 3?? It's been 20 years!)
I loved Dark Cloud it's my favorite RPG game of all time and I also own the game and still playing it now decided to go back and see how much I can remember about the game since I last played it

KH2 is like the original, but they took all the systems and made them better. The beginning with Roxas is a slow start but once you get out of cutscene village you get to a game that is just way more fun to play and replay. IMO the drive forms introduced in that game were the best combat addition to the series and were sorely missed in 3.
Yeah the key transformations just didn't do it for me. They were all really flashy to watch, and some were fun, but so many of them just felt the same. You're still essentially just slashing back and forth through the air all the time no matter what key you choose. They didn't change gameplay to the degree that drive forms did. Drives changed everything. Valor, wisdom, master, and final. Each one had their own specific feel and were so fun to use for different reasons and situations. With the key transformations it just felt really flashy but ultimately pointless which one you were using. Honey spout was pretty cool though. And definitely try the game on critical if you never have before! It becomes a whole new game and you'll appreciate it even more.

So far you got 4 I now own #1 dark cloud(the first one) and now I got #2 in the dark cloud series rad, story,s wild arms #3 now I also own #5 final fantasy #12 I also got #10 I also found some interesting game's by searching for videos on TH-cam like spinx and the cursed mummy whiplash g-force(it's cute thinking of a ginnie pig as 007)(but also creepy thinking of your toaster oven or blender coming to life and attacking you)all you need to do is look closely and I'm pretty sure you're going to find your special game on ps2 that gives you joy also🤔

I wanna congratulate you guys for saying RPG and not that stupid "JRPG" nonsense. Liked and subbed for that alone. Growing up during the NES, SNES, and PS1 golden era of gaming, we called them RPGS and that's what they'll always be to me! I'm sick and tired of hearing them with the stupid useless modern nickname they've been given. Rant over. Anyway great list, I'll have to check some of these out. Radiata stories is tri ace, damn that's one that flew under my radar. I'm surprised you didn't mention a Suikoden or the excellent Kings field 4 (although technically not a traditional RPG it has rpg elements).
@@thatvideogamesshow do you know which one is less grindy. I have limited experience with traditional rpgs except from Persona (which I loved because of the social aspects) Also I understand Stat ocean has social relationships and stuff, do you know if the ps2 sequel is good? Thanks.
BTW you should make a odd/weird games list like most of the old fromsoft jrpgs for the ps2. I find that flawed but original experiences tend to feel more personal because they're not normally leaning on traditional genre cliches and game mechanics. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of cult classics that are also technically good like God hand and also pretty strange but most of these experiences are made by AA studios which mean the quality is not usually the best
I liked few selections like xenosaga 3, wild arms 3, .hack over .hack g.u. But no Tales of the abyss easily one of the best rpgs in the system ? Or at least tales of legendia which has an amazing story. Well if you don't know tales of you should check them up.
I must confess that I have never understood the third continuation of shadow hearts cos its storyline seems totally disconnected to the first two games of the series
The .Hack games were slow, dull, main character was seriously lame. Getting data cores was always a pain in the ass. I had them all and sold them, no regret. That being said, .Hack G.U. was three games that start good and develops into awesome. Much more fun.
Ahh see I never found them slow and dull myself. I can understand how the concept might have the potential to turn players away though. It’s essentially a single player mmo 😅
@@thatvideogamesshow the concept wasn't the problem. You had to go into the menu to use your special skills, magic, data drain. Stopping the action to open a menu and scroll through a bunch of options. G.U. used a trigger system. Much faster, fluid combat. Infection and the subsequent games had decent ideas, but executed badly.
I’m so glad to see dark cloud on here. It’s the game that really got me into gaming as a whole. It’s a shame Sony is keeping it locked up in their dungeon.

So far you got 4 I now own #1 dark cloud(the first one) and now I got #2 in the dark cloud series rad, story,s wild arms #3 now I also own #5 final fantasy #12 I also got #10 I also found some interesting game's by searching for videos on TH-cam like spinx and the cursed mummy whiplash g-force(it's cute thinking of a ginnie pig as 007)(but also creepy thinking of your toaster oven or blender coming to life and attacking you)all you need to do is look closely and I'm pretty sure you're going to find your special game on ps2 that gives you joy also🤔
I was surprised how much I enjoyed G-Force!
@@craiganderson7986 I told you it's like 007 in animal form believe me the first time I played it I liked it myself I'm glad you also can enjoy it good luck buddy✌🌛
Those were the days! When an RPG was an RPG haha
Is it bad that I own every game mentioned in both of these RPG lists? Lol
Came here for Kite.
Y'all Sword Art nerds need to know the superior predecessor that is .hack.
mate should i play wild arms 3 or 5 as a newcomer to both the franchise and rpgs?
Mmmm thats a tough one... I personally prefer 5 but 3 is a great jumping on point as well. Its got a very unique art style as well when compared to 5.
@@thatvideogamesshow do you know which one is less grindy. I have limited experience with traditional rpgs except from Persona (which I loved because of the social aspects)
Also I understand Stat ocean has social relationships and stuff, do you know if the ps2 sequel is good?
How are you gonna put dark cloud in there but leave dark chronicle out 😡
Always a part 3!
What’s ur intro music?
Did he really just say “Shy-on” instead of “She-on”?! I am insulted, Shion is such a bad ass!
He butchered it
All these games needs to be played with undub.
Where is "Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne" ? :)
great list of rpgs
Included in part 1 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow Allright. Then I have to watch part 1 :)
Have a nice day!
You too buddy
What about the Gamecube? There are good RPGs for that system too.
Good shout, I’ll have to make one on that console!
What a weird selection for a top 10 RPG for the PS2... At least it's original.
I liked few selections like xenosaga 3, wild arms 3, .hack over .hack g.u.
But no Tales of the abyss easily one of the best rpgs in the system ? Or at least tales of legendia which has an amazing story.
Well if you don't know tales of you should check them up.
Check part 1
@@thatvideogamesshow I see it didn't came up in the suggestion, ill check it out then.
No mention of Suikoden? :O
got em allll
No Dragon Quest 8? INSANE
Check part 1 🙂
Rogue Galaxy!
I must confess that I have never understood the third continuation of shadow hearts cos its storyline seems totally disconnected to the first two games of the series
No Drakengard... I heard they are pretty good...
And final fantasy X ?
A top ten of rpgs for ps2 no is complete without final fantasy X
AMEN
Part 1
likes were at 999 i liked the vid and bam! 1K
Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia
Ar tonelico: 2 Melody of Metafalica
isn't on your lists.
You play as roxas for maybe an hour though
so.. is it top 20 now?
i feel like final fantasy 12 is a single player version of final fantasy online(FF11). . .
thanks for FF XII. the last good FF. Since we got FF XIII and FF XV and... beurk...
Really don't get the disdain for WA 2nd Ignition
I'm captain basch rossenburg of dalmasca💪💪
“Devil digital saga” bruh you even put the name in the video in text, how’d you get that wrong?
Is that Auron at 9:54?
It is!
No tales of the abyss?? 😢
Part 1 🙂
That Video Games Show ohhh 😅
That Video Games Show Can’t believe there’s three parts to this video. Just shows how great of a system the ps2 is.
Music is too loud
Where’s dragon quest viii??
On part 1 🙂
Liked👍
It's DOT hack, not hack. Get it right
fighting system in FF XII SUCKS. Kingdom Hearts 2 should be renamed Disney movie time as you will spend 90% of your time watching cutscenes.
Final fantasy XII combat system is awful making annoying to grind.
Noooooo
I suppose it comes down to personal preference. Loved the way it allowed to take things at your own pace with the skills menu etc.
Where's dragon quest 8?!
Included in Part 1, incredible RPG! =)
Hack all series
Such a great series of RPGs.
