  • Pinecrest Peak Trail:
    Distance: 4.57miles
    Descent: 2'465"
    Grade: -10% avg
Easily one of the roughest and most demanding tril I've ridden to date. Trails like this at first appear to be awkward and not fast because of a few factors:
    1. it's at 8k feet, which makes breathing and producing power and strength a laboured affair.
    2. the amount of rocks and blind crests make either trusting your bike and skills important or trail knowledge. Thisis my 3rd time down this trail ever and first run at speed.
    3. its around 21 minutes long for the fastest known time. I came in a minute behind with me going the wrong way and falling off. I also have DH tires and a bike that weighs around 37lbs
    4. It requires the rider to generate the speed to pump and jump rocks and awkward features which requires a lot of effort.
    5. It requires a lot of pedalling and sharp strong power bursts to make it up and over things whilst generating or maintaining momentum.
For me, it's the most well-rounded type of MTB trail. Natural, rough and challenging.
    Bike of Choice:
Transition Spire Medium Alloy (+1deg HA cup, bike in "low" position)
    Manitou Mezzer Pro: Custom valved
    EXT Storia V3: Custom valved
Crank Brothers Carbon Synthesis Enduro wheels and i9 Hydra hubs
Continental Kryptotal Fr/Re 2.4 DH casing, Super Soft/Soft
    Shimano XT brakes and shifting
    One Up carbon bar
Truvativ cranks (bent on this run where I hit my pedal)

Nice one dude! A top-to-bottom run on that trail without a stop is impressive. I can only imagine what that bottom section feels like without a break after the top section. BTW, I've had that same off on that right-hander. That little pine tree just past the apex sneaks up quickly and the corner is always blown out; perfect recipe for a front-wheel-washout. At least the dirt seemed soft 🙂

Weirdly that bottom section was much the same as everywhere else. Find a rhythm and just get used to it.
I really think the big bike helped on the rough stuff, but i think a trail bike would be faster and allow for quicker accelerations to maintain momentum.
The pre ride before i nailed that corner knowing it was super loose, i think i just placed my front wheel to far out on the corner. I’m starting to learn to point the front wheel towards the apex of a corner rather than running it around d the outside, as the length of the wheelbase starts to push the front.
Ready to hit this trail with you again when the snow melts and on a maybe faster setup. I think with some fitness in me to attack the flats and climbs and faster tires i could go sub 20min.

Heeeewww! That was sick man! Those trails are so hard to carry speed and you did that all in 1 run! Impassive man. Keep up the good work! 😃

Hey man, thanks. Have you ridden up there? yeah, those rocks especially in the lower section take a lot of focus and effort. There's not that much elevation on your side so pumping and loads of microburst pedals will help keep things rolling.

@@Vincentspeedworks No I have not, It looks cool though! Yeah it seemed like you did a lot of that, still a lot of pedaling effort 😅

Well done! Hardest trail I’ve ever ridden. Hard to see how gnarly it is until you ride it in person. Rode it back in October

It’s crazy how much effort it takes to get over all the rocks.

Great run, did you take the new Angel Dust detour? I saw some new slabs that I didn't remember.

hmm yeah, i think you gota stay right at the split. NEver gone left at the split which i assume will take you below the slabs.
