TDS Enduro '24: Racing the Canyon Strive:ON to a respectable emtb 12th
A quick bit of practice in the wet, and then straight into racing at the TDS.
I forgot to press record on several stages, and this is all I captured.
Day 1, Stage 5. The only incident of the day after Vigilante.
Day 2: Stages 6, 9, 10. Flatted on stage 7, rode super conservatively and was scared in the remaining stages.
I came into this weekend after being in the UK for two weeks, no riding, and straight into racing blind in a different time zone. This made for interesting body and mind sensations, but somehow, I am very grateful that I kept laser focus for the runs and kept out of trouble.
Held on for the 12th and was happy to finish the two days in one piece.

3rd Place Blind Run. Trans BC Enduro - Seymour: Neds Dust Bowl trail
มุมมอง 310ปีที่แล้ว
Good Finish to a long day of racing in Seymour, BC. Heard it had some great flow so I let off the brakes as much as I could and the lines came to me almost like I had ridden here before. It was the ride in recent memory where I found a complete flow state. Top to bottom was over before I knew it; everything in the middle was a blur. This is why I ride. Finished 15th Open for the day.

      The damper is still a Manitou product. I do the work myself but you or someone with a little bit of know how, can dissemble the fork and make changes to the shims and refill with oil. It’s a bit messy because of oil, but it’s a very simple procedure that can be done at home.

    Great video. I have a coiled Z1 on my Patrol. Definitely like the coiled feel in the front but at over 200 pounds it can feel very sketchy in all out speed. I've been looking at the Mezzer but wasn't sure how it would compare to the other 38mm options out there. Have you had any time on the others? And would the Mezzer be good for "heaveir" riders?

    • @Vincentspeedworks
      @Vincentspeedworks ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brandon, i came off a fox 38, 36, and this fork is lighter than both of those forks and is equally as stiff as the 38. The fork is probably better suited for heavyer riders (the stock damping is targeted around aggressive riding for probably around 170-200lb riders) So i think that this form would suit you very well and should be pretty damn smooth. With the super adjustable air spring you should find the support and smoothness you need.

    • @Vincentspeedworks
      @Vincentspeedworks ปีที่แล้ว

      hey man. Oh the Mezzer has been working for me so well. I'm not going to say it's better than Fox or RS but it allows you a much larger range of setup so can get the fork to do what you want really easily. Being able to swap travel length with spacers has been very handy, instead of having to buy a new air spring assembly for Fox/RS. The mezzer air spring is very good, with the 3 chambers like the EXT fork. you can precisely dial in ride height and then how you want it to ramp up or not with precise air adjust. Compared to RS/Fox with the volume tokens, i found the ramp up to sometimes be too much or not enough. Then there's the damper that is very easily serviced and tuned with shim changes. not complex but very high quality product throughout. you just have to service a little more often because of the semiopen bath lowers. But you don't need crush washers so swapping lower oil is very simple.

    Nice one dude! A top-to-bottom run on that trail without a stop is impressive. I can only imagine what that bottom section feels like without a break after the top section. BTW, I've had that same off on that right-hander. That little pine tree just past the apex sneaks up quickly and the corner is always blown out; perfect recipe for a front-wheel-washout. At least the dirt seemed soft 🙂

    • @Vincentspeedworks
      @Vincentspeedworks ปีที่แล้ว

      Weirdly that bottom section was much the same as everywhere else. Find a rhythm and just get used to it. I really think the big bike helped on the rough stuff, but i think a trail bike would be faster and allow for quicker accelerations to maintain momentum. The pre ride before i nailed that corner knowing it was super loose, i think i just placed my front wheel to far out on the corner. I’m starting to learn to point the front wheel towards the apex of a corner rather than running it around d the outside, as the length of the wheelbase starts to push the front. Ready to hit this trail with you again when the snow melts and on a maybe faster setup. I think with some fitness in me to attack the flats and climbs and faster tires i could go sub 20min.

    Hey man, awesome video and really dialed setup and riding. I have a Spur and also really like taking it to Flow, and I'm on the same quest of finding a perfectly balanced setup for it. I'm trying my best not to be too picky with the suspension but I do find that the sidluxe is not fairing well for a lot of my riding. The SID is keeping up for the most part, but the shock is definitely holding me back. Wondering if you considered the super deluxe ultimate and if you chose the mara pro over it intentionally? Also wondering what your favorite tires are so far..I recently bought a minion DHF front to keep the bike more safe during the wet days of winter (my stock dissector front has proven to be a little squirrelly on loose and steep stuff too), and I'm hoping to swap to the new 2022 Forekaster as it dries up in the spring next year.

      @@Vincentspeedworks Yeah it'd be really cool to hear your thoughts on your bike setup and what you've tried, liked and didn't like. I do think the elephant in the room is whether you feel like you'll need to just move up to a burlier frame to keep up with the suspension upgrades. The Epic Evo is by far the lightest modern short travel bike, but it's not as long and low as some downcountry picks. I noticed your bars are pretty short too -- which ones are you going with next? I think I'm going to snag a Oneup bar since they're doing 20% off right now. One of the next bigger upgrades I'm making is shorter cranks, my stock 175 ones strike all the time.
