Ford Everest 2.2 - In-depth Review and Test Drive

  • When the current generation of Ford Everest arrived in South Africa in 2015, we were suitably impressed with it's level of comfort, style and offroad ability. We tested it's prowess that year in this popular video:
    th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&vide...
    However, we found the pricing prohibitively expensive and to address that, Ford is now offering the vehicle with a smaller 2.2L turbodiesel. Additionally, they are building the Everest locally following a massive investment in their local plants.
    We took the latest, more affordable Everest for a drive, on both tarmac and gravel. We take a look at the tow rating, the latest Sync3 infotainment system, get comfy in the back seats and try to answer the question: do you really need the bigger engine?

    I really would like to have the Limited edition. Although it has many features that I like (sunroof, adaptive cruse control, etc), I think this model will be more suitable for me as I drive 99.9% of the time on tar roads. For those who own this model, is the engine strong enough to have a nice drive on the highway? Does it change gear to keep the speed at 120km/h on highway hills? Thanks.

    • @Jyu_voile_grace
      @Jyu_voile_grace 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rodrigo Silva this car will easily do 120 kmph with full load on board on the highway and you won't feel the need for extra power on the hills. The only thing is pushing above 130kmph appears a bit strained on the 2.2L engine. Rest assured if you're not going off roading or drag racing, this car is fantastic.

    • @rodrigosilva4927
      @rodrigosilva4927 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      govind shukla I took it for the first trip on the highway. As you said the is more than enough at 120kmph , no need for the bigger engine, I'm loving it.

    • @mg93631
      @mg93631 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      joshua yap yes, resale value was one of the things that swayed me and maybe easier to sell. So the safer the choice I think. However liked the Everest as well, that 3.2 would have been awesome cruising. Maybe Everest will be next one in few years time.

    Man, Ford's gonna have to do something really impressive to slap the Bronco name on this and try and sell it in the U.S. I don't see anything from this review, to suggest it's better than a decade old Explorer.

    • @juanferreira4263
      @juanferreira4263 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bronco for the US market will bare no styling relation to the current or next Everest. Although it might share the majority of its platform with the Bronco. The bronco itself will be a vastly different vehicle in order to appeal to American taste.

    • @95mushroom
      @95mushroom 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Until its revealed at Detroit 2018, we have nothing concrete either way. Only have what Raj Nair said, which should be taken with a huge grain of salt. My comment was more aimed at that completely lackluster interior though. Either way, I wouldn't hold my breath that the Bronco is anything but a rebadged Everest, to spite whatever Ford exec says.

    I have 2.8 Fortuner and love it and Toyota historically a better engine and better reliability (Kuga need I say more)

      Don't compare the European designed and developed Kuga that is built in Spain to the Australian designed and developed Everest that is built in South Africa. It's like me comparing your Fortuner to the CH-R . . . The badge on the tailgate is where the similarities end.

      Caleb Overmeyer such an ugly car, the Fortuner. And at the hijack rate of Fortuners amd Hilux vehicles, one should ask, do I have a death wish. Just yesterday, close to my home, they shot. and killed a guy in his Hilux and took it.
      Toyota too high hijack risk, sorry Caleb

      @@jcstrydom2505 Goes to show even criminals know whats the better choice. Has Ford ever made a truck that Top Gear tried to destroyed. I repeat TRIED. Not succeeded. Go watch if you don't believe me. th-cam.com/video/XBN3IuVCxl8/w-d-xo.html
      And at least Toyota never made a pickup truck with a death wobble (Ford F-150) th-cam.com/video/OjqRf5ck2EQ/w-d-xo.html

    the fortuner is still better
    the engine is much better compare to the everest
    the everest is much more sluggish
    both the 2.4 and 2.8 is better more refined and more oomph
    the 3.2 everest is very lazy comlare ti the 2.8
