I've had one for years. A trick I do is turn the fan on high, hold a dry kitchen sponge between the open shutters as you slow down the fan, the sponge will keep the shutters open, no matter how slow you adjust the fan. Sometimes, I like just a low breeze and no noise, pulled thru a window far away.
