  • Jade Palace Chinese Restaurant located in Burnaby, B.C. serves delicious Chinese food in big portions and at reasonable prices. In this video, I got a chance to go in the kitchen and watch the master chefs cook some dishes. The dishes they were cooking include lobster stir fry, spicy chicken wings, steamed whole fish with ginger and green onions, pork and vegetable with wok fried noodles, sweet and sour pork and Shanghai noodles with bbq pork and prawns. Just watching the chefs in actions has helped me improve my Chinese cooking.
    I believe this restaurant used to be the Dragon Inn. It was a popular Chinese restaurant many years ago.
    The owners are from Hoiping (Kaiping) China, in southern China. Some of the food they serve is very similar to food in Hoiping, China. My parents' roots are from Hoiping, China. I often visit Hoiping and the surrounding areas there. Some of the food in Jade Palace Chinese Restaurant is similar to food served over there.
    My mom and I enjoyed some of the Jade Palace Chinese Restaurnt specialties. Whe had the steamed free range chicken with ginger and green onion oil, the melon and pork bones daily soup, the eight precious or eight treasures hot pot, chicken and bitter melon with black bean sauce stir fry and the House Special Chow Mein.
    Be sure to watch what I had for dessert. It was the duck egg yoke bao bun, with the liquid centre.
    I also got a chance to talk to the restaurant manager Jennifer. I would like to thank her and the kitchen staff for letting me video the cooking action in the kitchen.
    If you get a chance, give this restaurant a try. The servings were big, delicious and reasonably priced. I'm a big eater so I usually finish eating everything. But at this restaurant the servings were so large I had to take some food home. I'm not complaining because I got to enjoy their food again the next day. Enjoy!

    The food looked really good as well as being good for you. The pan fried noodles were my favorite growing up, and there's nothing like bitter melon to get what ails you back on track. My dad and his mom were both from Hoiping. Was great to listen to your guy's conversation. She seemed to really appreciate having you guys frequent her business and spreading the word around.

      Yes, you should buy a wok and try cooking. It really makes food taste better. If you have electric coil stove, get a flat bottom carbon steel wok. You can also use a flat bottom carbon steel fry pan which has more surface contact with the heat source. Thanks for checking out my video.

    My uncles bought houses within easy walking distance of Vancouver’s Chinatown back in the 70’s, while my parents had us living in majority white suburbs around Washington, DC where nothing was walkable and public transportation was spotty. I loved visiting family in Canada.

      Yes, back in the 70's there were some nice areas near Chinatown and East Vancouver where a lot of Chinese people lived. I found these areas much more interesting too. Thanks for viewing my video. BTW, did you have a Chinatown anywhere in Washington?

      I bought the cap the last time I was in Vega. That was in the 1990's. I don't think the chinatown was built in Vegas when I was there. I haven't been to Oakland's Chinatown but I have been to San Francisco's Chinatown a few times. I liked to go to the old Sam Wo's in San Fran. Thanks for viewing my video.

    Wow, that food looks amazing! I’m so grateful I live in Sacramento where you can find Chinese food like that. I am a Pizzaiolo and cook at an Italian restaurant. I wish I could get a job cooking in a Chinese kitchen but I’m also a giant tattooed white boy with a mullet. I never see anyone but other Chinese folks working in Chinese kitchens. Can non Chinese cooks get a job in a Chinese kitchen? I want to learn how it’s done.

    • @DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV
      @DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard lately that Chinese restaurants are having a hard time hiring people. Some are even closing.
      The big obstacle would be language becasue a lot of Chinese people working in Chinese restaurants don't want to learn English, so it would be hard for an English speaking person to get a job in a Chinese restaurant.
      I would think the best approach is to try and convince an owner to work as a kitchen assistant doing side work and food prep on a part time basis. Then try and learn the cooking once you're in.
      Not sure if this really helps you any. I do do wish you good luck.

      I went to a restaurant that was Santa Cruz that opened by a Caucasian guy. We discovered that when my brother in law was going to the restroom and he had to pass the kitchen as the restroom as beyond that. He couldn't believe it so he started taking to the chef and asked him how he ended up being a chef in a Chinese restaurant. He explained that he worked in a Chinese restaurant when he was young and the owner/chef taught him to cook. I couldn't believe it either as the food was very authentic.

    Another Asian restaurant that keeps water running all the time when they don’t need to. As much as the food looks great and the reporter is useless repeating the same “look at that” I would love to see one of these restaurants using water responsibly

    • @DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV
      @DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I understand, the water is running because of the heat generated from the heat of the woks cooking. It needs a redesign so there isn't as much waste of water.
