Thank you for posting this! As a man I wear both women's and men's VINTAGE ONLY Calvin Klein Obsession. Your review of this fragrance was not just educational and accurate but it is pleasing as well! Very enjoyable and I thank you very much! I hope that you will continue to do more reviews with vintage fragrances to help educate those who wish to begin collecting true vintage formulations of fragrances (these original formulations are not only being forgotten but they are quickly disappearing altogether). I would add as a vintage collector myself IF you know you have a true vintage fragrance (alot of homework in this vintage collecting hobby lol but worth it!) it would be very helpful for others who wish to acquire original vintage formulations to know what is written on boxes including fonts,color, and capitalizations, etc., and/or what is on the actual bottle. I have two different COLOGNE versions of Obsession in the "kidney" bottle and one cologne is written in WHITE w/clear sticker and the other is written COLOGNE in dark blue on a clear sticker. I can tell you the one with the white writing is so so powerful it's almost like a parfum! While the dark blue writing bottle is powerful (it is still Obsession lol) but nothing as strong as the bottle with the white writing. I can also tell you they are both labeled as Calvin Klein Cosmetics Corp. not Co. I have found that if it is labeled Corp it is most likely from 85 to 90. I also own a bottle of the eau de parfum in the kidney shaped bottle as well with the dark blue writing and even though the concentration is listed at 84% it is not as in longevity or projection as the kidney shaped "cologne" bottle with the white writing.... IMO. Again thank you for such an educational, enjoyable presentation on such a dearly-loved classic! It's hard to believe but there truly was a time when designer fragrances could easily hold their own with anything we call niche today. New subscriber here and I will be looking for more!
Omg I adore Obsession! One of my top 5 for sure but my all time love is Tabu. Thank you for sharing that cute vintage parfum too, which must be like a little whiff of pure heaven. 👃❤
Great review yes!! I remember those 80s this was amazing then and still is especially in this day where everything has to smell identical and safe. This is dangerous and yet so comforting, like a beautiful syrupy potion, I’m so glad I got this bottle. I went straight away to eBay and got me a pure perfume bottle too, so gorgeous!!!
Yes 🙌 A cult classic! "When you know, you know!" I just started collecting perfume as a hobby. Never really was a prolific fragrance wearer, but this fragrance always was and always will be memorable! I just got my vintage bottle in the mail from Ebay and I cannot stop wearing it!!! I even give myself an extra spray before bed. If a fragrance could give hugs...it would be Obsession !!!
You are right that when I initially sprayed it, the top notes did not match the rest of the fragrance, and I thought I made a mistake. But you are also right that when it calmed down, I smelled mostly a pleasant, almostly powdery vanilla fragrance. I really like it. But that initial spray is disconcerting. This is the first time I've purchased Obsession. It is not a strong smell on me, but a pleasant one. I've always been an Opium perfume lover. I've also always loved Shalimar, which is a really strong, oriental spicy, long lasting perfume. That can be smelled across a room. When I was a teenager I wore Tabu. When I was in my early twenties I loved a perfume they no longer make, called Stephen B. I have recenlty purchased a number of florals scents, but none of those last very long on me. I like spicy perfumes.

I hate the cheap formula of the modern version...😫😩🥺why would they change something that was so beautiful? Eventually we will run out of the good vintage stuff.😭
Cuz the animalic notes came from actual animal cruelty (google musk and civet) moder versions might not be the same, but they are more ethical for sure.
I think this one is better than the men's version. It's less cinnamon-y And more...composed? More...I don't know what. It's better put together, I think . Softer and warmer, a little more complicated...
I have used this for thirty years, I dearly loved it. The last three bottles were awful.The fragrance Is no where the same. I am so disappointed. Will have to find another perfume. You have sure cut corners somewhere.

I loved Obsession as a kid. My older sister bought me a bottle when I was only 10 and it was an atomiser the spray was the lid itself.
