Ahhh! I can't even tell you how much I needed this video. I love Obsession and no one ever freaking talks about it. I've never shouted "YES!" so much while watching a TH-cam video. I paused it and ran to my Stash to grab my original sprayers (built in cap..I have 2 partial Parfums and one full cologne with the original cap) and 3 Unilever owned bottles. I want a Coty now and I am hunting for an original kidney. I first smelled this at a mall in the early 90s and fell in love with it. I thought "when I grow up, that is what I always want to smell like." It's beautiful in clothes the next day too...I can't even begin to tell you how moved I am by this fragrance. I'm so glad you made this video and I found your channel. I just love your passion. 👏 👏 👏

I buy vintage Obsession obsessively :-) I have a couple with the built-in spray and they are delectable. I never knew that Obsession , Eden and Lou Lou were all created by the same man-. I wear all three and love them. These perfumes are a great source of joy and comfort in a modern age in which I don't feel I belong. Thank you for the wonderful reviews and sharing your passion.

The most important part of your review is when you’re talking about nature, beaches and sand. You perfectly understood the fragrance that is for me the greatest nature fragrance ever made. Its smell is as big as nature is. I love wearing Obsession in summertime, on the beach, on a sunset by the ocean. It is so inspiring! Thank U for this beautiful review. I love your reviews. I used Obsession, Samsara, Giorgio, Poison, Paloma Picasso, Coco, Opium, Samba, Red from Giorgio Beverly Hills, Jungle Gardenia those are 💣 of perfums. Today they are so much beautiful pices of perfums but most of them are like so soft and like they need to please everyone. I Love that I use all those beauty's when I was a teenager. I can not think in this year's a teenager use this pices of art.

Its a comforting calming cuddle fragrance. It also stains!!!
It also smells different at different times and different days and lingers on scarves and clothes for weeks.
Funny story: someone said when i was wearing it they could smell paint stripper or musty damp.😆
I have been lucky because thankfully it has not stained my clothes ever. Fingers crossed it stays that way. haha.

Although I am 25, the only perfumes I ever wear are vintages (not the vintage formulations, I am but a poor Romanian gal). Arpege, Blue Grass, Ciara, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Poison, Obsession, Gloria Vanderbilt....
And out of all of them - bombastic larger than life - Obsession is the most complex and polarizing. When I am wearing it, it's very sharp and almost masculine, with loads of spicy bitter amber. But one time, I sprayed it on my t-shirt and left it in my dresser, and when I opened the drawer again, the most gorgeous cozy cinnamon-y vanilla scent engulfed me, so rich and almost creamy, yet spicy. And I was so shooketh, so I asked my mom if that's how this perfume usually projects when I am wearing it, and she said yes. But apparently my nose perceives this scent much differently when I am wearing it, even if I only do 1, maximum 2 sprays (this perfume is a BEAST).
If you are into spicy vanilla orientals, Dacob, I would suggest trying out Far Away by Avon. It was launched in 1994 and it's the only Avon scent I ever use. It's a cheapie too, so you won't be wasting a lot of money on it, in case you won't like it. It's pretty cozy and inoffensive, in an old school kinda way, so it won't be hard for you to "re-home" it in case you won't like it.
Similarly, I think you might enjoy Chopard's Casmir - it's basically a jammy oozing peach cobbler with loads of vanilla and cinnamon in it.

@@SuperDacob Oh my goodness, thank you so much for replying to my comments!!! You made my day! I am really curious of your opinion of Far Away, once you will have tried it! I love the fact that you review vintage "cheapies", because it's exactly like you said: These perfumes didn't use to cheap at all, but rather they used to have the same reputation La Vie Est Belle does today. People used to go crazy over these fantastic perfumes, and it's only because the hype died down that they became so accessible. To me, they are more like hidden treasures, really. For those who love these sorts of scents, they are truly a bargain.
And yep, Obsession is a fantastic perfume, but it is so strong that it is sometimes difficult to wear. But the trail it leaves behind... PURE HEAVEN. To me it almost smells like (a much spicier) creme brulee, when I open my dresser and its scent wafts through the air.
Dacob, thank you for reviewing this masterpiece. I agree with you that Coty has done a great job preserving this beautiful fragrance. I was so intrigued by your video, and your comments about the current Coty version made in USA with oakmoss still in it, and the version made in France … without oakmoss. I have a sample of the vintage parfum, and a bottle of the current (5 years old) Coty EDP which was made in the USA. They both have that “bitey” and very green beginning you describe. I recently received a bottle (current Coty formulation) that was made in Spain and this formulation is very different (in a delightful way!) from the vintage parfum and current USA versions… the beginning is much softer, and smells somewhat like Shalimar… I think it’s the vanilla! I’m loving it. Each version is a treasure to me.

Thank you for your review of this beauty. Do you happen to be familiar with when the Obsession with the " Calvin Klein Co. Lancaster group by France" came out? I've seen that on the bottle of some vintage bottles and wasn't sure if that was the 90's?
I just sold a 3.4 oz bottle of cologne with the atomizer built in the top and I also had a ea de parfum with the atomizer built in the top and I would sit here smelling both, one on each hand, and I was thinking I was crazy because they smelled exactly the same LOL! I knew they smelled the same and yet I was looking at a cologne and I was looking at an eau de parfum... Thank you Dacob for clearing that up. And oh yes they smelled ethereal! I probably should have kept them but I have the men's version from the year of release and oh my oh my is that a lovely one also. In fact it rates in my top three. Another fantastic production Dakob!! Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I find it intriguing that the big hitters of the 80’s perfumes are being remembered most recently. Reminding us all that lived and grew in the 80’s that our countries have been through pandemics and tragedies BEFORE. That we can and will make it through!!! That Creative Works of every scope will be inspired by these times. As art was cultivated in these FANTASTIC SCENTS!!!

I loved this review and it really enhanced my enjoyment of the Obsession I just bought from ROSS for $30 which was the Coty Obsession 100 ml Made in Spain Eau de Parfum Spray (no lot number that I could find!). My question is: What is the difference between my new Obsession Eau de Parfum and the "Obsession for Men" EDT spray that I also see in the stores? The EDP is darker and comes in the classic bottle and it does not say whether it is for Men or Women; the EDT is lighter and comes in a slightly different shaped bottle, but is the "Obession for Men EDT" even more masculine smelling than the EDP?? Do I need to get both or are they basically the same fragrance? Thank you in advance for your help and again, I loved this review which was so educational!

wonderful review dacob:) i have a small decant of obsession also made in France and yes i absolutely love it; its warm, yet cold and polished and niche quality all the way:) its in the same "family" of Opium and Coco, but i love the salty amber twist that adds that marine/ sunkissed skin to this oriental.

Wonderful review! Strangely, I hadn't yet applied fragrance today, so I grabbed my vintage bottle of Obsession Cologne (the bottle like your factice) and splashed it on (no dabber on this version). Ohhh, yes! I didn't wear Obsession in the 80's or 90's because so many others did, but man oh man do I love it now and feel it is underappreciated. It's true that you fall into it/it pulls you down into it, in the most delicious (but not edible), comforting, wise, cozy, way. Very different than something like Shalimar, which rises to meet you in layers. This one you go down into the layers, if that makes sense. My regular experience with this is next-day, when I smell something amazing, wonder what it is and realize it's the dry down from the previous day's Obsession.
Just bought a bottle😂😂 I still feel like Obsession took some inspiration from Must de Cartier (1981) as that one has also a green opening on a ambery/powdery base.

Just got Coti formulation but made in Spain. Just wondering if you think it’s same as made in France?
I don't know if people who weren't actually there in the 80s can understand just how bombastic fragrance was at that time... in just the span of less than five years we were assaulted or treated however you choose to remember the 80s iconic fragrances lol, with true powehouse perfumes... the world was still reeling from the grand entrance of Giorgio Beverly Hills Extraordinare perfume and almost immediately on its heels came Poison and pretty much simultaneously Obsession! And these were just some of the iconic women's releases.... men's fragrances were certainly not out done by these three...it was a time for better or worse that was freed from conventional restraints and the fragrances were leading the charge!! I miss that time!!
Just tested this out today and at first it wasn't my favorite but throughout the day it warmed up on me so beautifully that im dead set on getting a bottle tomorrow as soon as I wake up xDi cant wait to wear this for my fall/winter sent. I'm curious to see what happens in warmer weather because I'd love this to be my signature
Thank you so much for your review! I became obsessed with OBSESSION right after it’s debut. A friend’s older sister had a bottle that I was fortunate to be able to smell from when I was a very young teenager. It was like nothing I had ever smelled. It captivated me, so when I was able to afford my own bottle a few years later I bought it. I wore it faithfully for years then stopped in my mid twenties because my then boyfriend (now husband) was not a fan. He preferred CK ESCAPE, so I switched. Now that I’m approaching 50 I felt it was time to rediscover OBSESSION. I bought a bottle a few days ago. I definitely smell something different about it. The top notes are not what I remember. I was initially put off a little by it, but after a few moments on my skin it seemed to settle down into the familiar scent from my memory albeit not as strong. I checked the bottle’s box and discovered my bottle was made in Spain. I checked the batch number & this particular bottle was manufactured in January 2021. Overall, Coty did do a good job reformulating this classic scent but because I loved the original so much and wore it so much I can tell the difference. I’d say this is a softer, less heady version. I plan to wear it until it’s gone (3.4 oz bottle). It’s unfortunate the original formula is no longer produced but that’s life. Nothing ever stays the same. Please keep doing your reviews. I think you’re adorable ❤️

I just buy Musc Ravage the new formulation and there is a point that remains me obsession I have the kidney colon, what do you think about that?

Obsession was the ONLY perfume that smelled good on my skin, blended into me. I tested many others, but so many smelled like alcohol. It felt 'middle-eastern', earthy, exotic.
Too many had dominant florals - and I did not want to smell like a flower! I wanted to smell like a sensual woman. When fully absorbed, it drove my man crazy.
Curious Qs:
= Do perfumes 'behave' differently on different skins? Smell completely differently? If so, what are the factors involved?
= Aside from amber, the most beautiful aroma I have ever encountered is 'rabbit's foot clover', a little wild plant I have found only in Alberta, Canada. Is this ever used as a perfume ingredient?
= Peonies have a powerful fragrance, drawing one down into the earth. So is peony ever used in perfumes?
Have you tried kiehls Original Musk? It's maybe a bit like obsession...I know for sure Peony is used in perfumes, you can even Google it. I was looking for cola notes in perfumes, and just googled that, and found what I wanted.

I can’t say I’ve consciously smelled this before but on first impression I was immediately transported to Frederic Malle’s Musc Ravageur. I wonder if it was the perfumers’, Maurice Roucel’s, inspiration 🤔? As a side, if you love this I can guarantee you will be into one of my favs MFK Ciel de Gum. Merry Christmas dear friend 🎁 ♥️

Coming to this video because I've just bought Obsession... and it's to arrive soon. I'm a first time wearer of it, so I'm intrigued by the history and the devout following of this perfume.
I came across this scent when I was working one day a few years ago now and I had to stop and ask the lady what she was wearing. Which I don't normally do. A few years later I still think about this perfume and today I've given in and brought it ☺️
Based on your review I finally bought Obsession (Coty 2020 made in France) and I love it. I used to avoid it because it was way too spicy and harsh but based on what you said I might have tried Unilever reformulation. However, I have one objection, there is one fragrance that smells VERY similar. Have you tried original Must De Cartier (in dark red cap not the current reformulation which is total joke)? It smells super similar. In fact IMO it smells so similar that it can pass for a current reformulation of Must De Cartier. So now I can finally freely use my Must de Cartier without fear of running out as I am about to buy several more bottles of current Obsession (and it's super cheap which is good but also slight disrespect to this masterpiece). Must De Cartier is slightly sweeter and deeper but yeah, as I said IMO they are super similar and Obsession captures the original idea of Must de Cartier better that the current reformulation of MDC. OK, I am repeating myself. Thank you for a great review.
EDIT: Obsession smells lie MDC when sprayed from a close distance, when applied from further away drydown really very very slightly reminds me of Joop Le Bain - am I the only one thinking it?
Glad you are loving it 😊 I will need to smell an older version of must de cartier to see if I can sniff out the similarities one day. The powdery touch in Obsession has hints of Le Bain in it though.
Hi there! I was curious with Obsession EDP for quite some time, but well... guess what You convinced me with this review to go out and buy it. I remember Obsession as very strong, harsh oriental at the opening and it must have been an older formulation, but Coty Oh men... none of that, bergamot - citrus opening, very smooth, warm, cosy, fluffy, vanilla - amber. I have also Obsession for men wich share some similarities in the opening and I have always thought that they are alike, but not really. EDP is so much better... (Bottle - Made in Spain)
Yes, OBSESSION is quite different from OBSESSION FOR MEN but I will review FOR MEN too so we shall see all the differences and similarities I manage to sniff out of the two! haha!
@@SuperDacob It's funny, but Obsession reminds me about Gucci Pour Homme (2003), it has similar richness, smoke and amber and also a little bit Burberry Touch for men due to slightly soapiness it has.
It flies out on ebay!! Cant find in most shops now in 🇬🇧. It got taken off shelves when ‘Obsessed’ came out a few years ago. I was told by SAs its been discontinued despite it being best seller. They were surprised. You can find at the perfume shop and superdrug at certain times of the year and allbeauty. Its like CK want to push their new line and disassociate themselves.
I have always loved Obsession. I remember being 17 years old, and being in a Department store and sampling it for the first time. I loved it. My parents bought me a gift set for Christmas that year. It is the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. I recently bought a small travel bottle. Coty needs to send you a thank you note, because I will soon buy a bigger bottle.
Love Obession one of my favourite perfume but I also love poison and youth dew and aromatics elixir and beautiful I like knowing aswell

Obsession is the closest I can find to the original Halston for Women back in the 80s (not the current terrible reformulation). It’s not the same of course, but just reminiscent.
Love this one I wear it quite often on cool summer evenings..the womens escape is beautiful too

I have been wearing obsessions since 1977. Lately it does not smell at all the same how can I order the original perfume? Everywhere I try to buy it does not smell at all the same not on me not on anybody.
There's a local antique shop here that has a factice of Dolce and Gabbana pour homme. Its huge!

I didn't use this in the 80s, but I was 15 when it came out. I remember fragrances from the 80s being so much more...FULL of flavor as compared to today's fragrances. Not that I dislike new fragrances, but there's just such a huge difference. It's like, you know...drinking out of the garden hose and riding bikes without protective gear...the 80s were just FULLER somehow. (not that everything was fantastic, bc it certainly wasn't that)

This perfume is amazing. I'm not really into men's frags but the spice and warmth in this frag is amazing. Funny story, I found this fragrance because my dog had dug up a small bottle of it in the yard, and came in smelling like it! I wondered for an entire night where the hell he came in smelling like it until I stepped on it in the yard.

@@SuperDacob I'm not exactly sure! My guess is maybe to keep the fragrance for a longer amount of time (since it's cold outside and stays a consistent temp where I live) it was a 1980s bottle. Too bad I gave it to my uncle. Forgot to mention it was wrapped in a plastic bag before the dog chewed the bag up. Very odd indeed.

Why did they call it a cologne if it was essentially EDP strength? Confusing, as if perfume concentrations weren't confusing enough for the general public haha
It was not confusing at the time. It was released originally as cologne and parfum. Later on, in Europe it was released as edp and parfum.
@@SuperDacob That's amazing to know! Do you think there's a difference in strength and quality between the cologne from the USA and the later Europe EDP releases? I imagine it could, as the original formulations are usually always the best. I do wonder if a cologne was actually better than the EDP.
And I've also wondered why the colognes I've seen on the internet have a just as dark or even darker fluid than the vintage EDPS; always expected it to be lighter. now I know :) x
the 50 ml splash bottle is not the first edition of obsession that you have. when obsession first came out in 1985 it was called cologne and not eau de parfum. also upc barcode did not appear on perfume boxes until 1991 or later. before that there is no upc barcode on perfume boxes.

@@SuperDacob it's so easy to hunt down vintage spray bottle of obsession on ebay and it's relatively cheap. make sure that the spray bottle has the nozzle built into the cap, and the cap is not removable, and it's printed cologne spray on the front or sometimes it has no cologne spray printed at all.

I made the mistake the purchasing the new Calvin Klein obsession for women and not the vintage with the gold band on the cap, this perfume smells hideous just sprayed out of the bottle and it definitely doesn't agree with my chemistry and I find myself trying to get rid of it. It was a blind buy I regret. And I wish somebody would buy it off me for 25 bucks Any takers it's the parfume model I believe is 3.4 ounces
